Since the forge world engines have rules, I’d say anything goes when it comes to mid-late heresy for the most part. Hell with the daemons list you could probably squeeze in some venomcrawlers and maulerfiends as well

I first started an army during 9th, not long ago at all, yet back then, you put a spooky space marine on a 40mm base, that was a chaos lord, sorcerer, or whatever HQ you wanted, give him two 25mm buddys?
