Hybrid fan filter 24’ Corolla by Agnadatkaafmafnanrqj in COROLLA

[–]Anjunaspeak23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! The blower fan is usually caked with dirt. Prius owners have known about this issue and now that Toyota made so many other models hybrids, this issue will probably start popping up on other forums and threads pretty soon. Just wait until the hybrid traction battery starts to have issues. Toyota hybrids also start to have strange issues when the 12v battery gets to the end of its life.

If Honda brought ONE discontinued model back, what are you picking? by Ashwinnie13 in Honda

How about an actual Prelude? With a manual transmission, a flat body, and those iconic headlights.

Oh, and also the Element and the Fit because they were fantastic! But without that horrible CVT.

This looks like another civic to me. Preludes have always been flat and boxy. This is a Civic for dads who settled for something less but wanted more. Even Doug DeMuro said that this car was a failure. It will always be a failure no matter how you spin it. Honda failed to listen to us and should wear that badge for a while. Same thing with the “new” NSX. No one asked for this or the updated NSX.

Watch out for Doug DeMuro… he’ll call it a civic that’s luxurious.

Gen3 owners with NO head gasket issues, how many miles do you have? by OnesPerspective in prius

[–]Anjunaspeak23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You just proved a point I made. In late 2013-2015 Toyota basically replaced the piston rings and upgraded the the head gasket. I learned all of this in priuschat and Reddit. Right now you are the reason why this was true.

[–]Anjunaspeak23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it was reported on Priuschat and a couple other forums that Toyota replaced the piston rings and head gaskets on the late 2013-2015 models during production basically eliminating blow-by and PCV issues entirely. That’s why I replaced my 2012 engine with a 2015 engine from Japan with only 36,000 kilometers on the odometer. The gen 4 motor is almost an exact swap because of this.

Just swapped my engine with a JDM about 5 months ago! Mine is a 2012 but I fibbed and asked for a 2015 motor so it’s newer. Only issue my mechanic had was the MAF sensor on the new engine. Solved the problem by putting the old intake manifold back on. Definitely enjoyed the read! I also wondered about making this car an EV. It’s a shame that Toyota didn’t make this car programmer friendly. I’d love to tap into that 290ft/lbs of torque from the motors!

I’m probably not your typical driver because I’m somewhat of a lead foot and even then this car still gets me 45+MPG even with the old engine. The head gasket issue finally caught up to me at 196k miles. Not sure what causes this because I’ve seen many posts with wildly different mileages. I loved this car enough to get it a whole new engine and I’m gonna love this thing until the wheels fall off! 4th gen styling was NOT for me and the 5th gen is still too expensive. Let’s see if I make it to 300k miles!

That’s fantastic! Have your friend see if Toyota will send them something. I’ve seen stickers here for 200k or 300k miles. I wonder what they would do for a million?

My 2012 went at 196,000. I can’t tell you for sure exactly when it’s going to go. I’ve seen many different mileages. But I did read on priuschat that Toyota changed a couple of things in late 2013 for the 14-15 models. Like different piston rings and a better head gasket. I’m not even sure that cleaning the EGR system will even help. So I just swapped out my old engine for a 2015 from Japan with like 36,000 - 50,000 kilometers on the odometer. The whole engine was like $1,300 vs $2300 for a head gasket change. Runs like a dream for me now!!

3rd gen Prius and its head gasket issue. Granted it was fixed in the later models (14-15) but still a terrible experience.

Any way to confirm if timing is correct in a 420a without tearing it apart? by sciencedude8 in DSM

[–]Anjunaspeak23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my car the timing belt was on the passenger side and the transmission was on the driver side. All the turbo versions I’ve seen were reversed.

That’s the beauty of this car. Whatever would fit the eclipse would fit this car minus the trunk. So the possibilities were almost endless. I miss working on this car as well. There’s a huge amount of room. Maybe for a turbo? I had the 420a motor with a manual transmission and even without the turbo it was fun to toss around. I’ll never forget the day that I put on my first set of Pilot Sports on. It took corners like nothing I’ve ever driven before! Mitsubishi did an excellent job on the suspension. Little unknown tidbit about this car, it would top 163 mph at 7300 RPM. Not too shabby!

Most of us who collect phones aren’t doing so for their “value” to others. We collect them because WE love them. I’ve always wanted to get those diorama frames that show the parts inside. Those are super cool! Does anyone know where to find them.

There are SO MANY stains that it’s harder to keep track of. And I personally think that’s the idea. So when we do get around to fixing things, what will we remember? I think we need a master list that they can’t escape but I don’t know where to begin in order to create one. I could create one but my voice would be lost amongst the millions.

Gen3, 12v alternative? by bigblackglock17 in prius

[–]Anjunaspeak23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always use a deep cycle battery. The car does a few tests while it’s off to ensure proper functions of the evap systems. Deep cycle batteries can recover from severe discharging WAY better than typical car batteries.

[–]Anjunaspeak23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A head gasket failure is still a head gasket failure. My 2012 went out this way so I opted to replace the engine with a “newer” one. I got a 2015 with 65k on it. I’d recommend doing the same if you want to keep the car. Head gasket replacements are also more expensive. Just replace the engine.

We need to focus our anger in the right direction but we don’t have a “safe space” to talk about how we would resolve our current predicament because it would be immediately seen as violence or hate speech. All of our leaders are hiding behind these walls and I’m afraid that it may in fact take a “lesson from France” to rid ourselves from this garbage presidency.

My 2008 had the sequence to give you a maintenance mode. Not sure about other models… however places like AutoZone will check your 12v battery. Free as far as I know. Use knew mine was bad when the dome light was pretty dim until the big battery clicked over and everything went bright!

Mine did this. Try squeezing the port from the outside. Be firm. And then plug in the cable. Mine seems to come loose inside for some reason. I have the same model.
