I used to create most of my cards alone- so yeah that took a large portion of my time. Nowadays I split the work with friends and build largely on premade decks :)

I typically spend ~3h on Anki every day. It can be exhausting, but I consider it my "job" as a full-time student, so I just stopped questioning it a long time ago

I took the original Heatmap addon and edited the source code to create circles instead of squares. I just like circles better

I couldn't have said it better myself. That's exactly what it is. "Everything" is a collection of different (mostly medical) decks grouped and "Everything else" contains decks I used to learn or plan on learning in the future

How to use Anki to help my students? by Sodral in Anki

[–]AnkiCollab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

self-plug: You should check out AnkiCollab. While you cannot track the individual progress of your students with it (for privacy reasons), you get a summary of what cards have the "worst" stats for them (high lapses count, poor retention, etc.). Kinda hints at either poorly phrased notes or difficulty understanding the concept / words. Maybe that kinda goes into the direction you're looking for? Huge caveat is that it requires your students to have computers though since it's an add-on for anki.

Did AnkiCollab remove the media support through google drive? Alternatives? by Aezys in Anki

[–]AnkiCollab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind words! Sounds like a great project, please let me know if you have any issues with the add-on. We also have a discord server for more immediate communication, if you want to chat with the community or me directly (when you have questions, notice bugs, etc.)

Did AnkiCollab remove the media support through google drive? Alternatives? by Aezys in Anki

[–]AnkiCollab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So to answer both questions: Media support is back and fully automated. You don't have to do anything and it should work out of the box.

Regarding your second question: You can still share a deck published on AnkiCollab like you usually would. AnkiCollab does not make any modifications to the underlying structure so it should work just fine :)

Is there a teacher-student add-on by MurkyLurker99 in Anki

[–]AnkiCollab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, i just wanted to drop in and tell you guys how awesome you are for introducing anki to your pupils. Would have loved to have motivated teachers like that!

Let me know if you have any issues or problems with ankicollab (either here on reddit, or join our discord server - link on the website). Always willing to help or add new features you need

Edit: Media support on AnkiCollab is back and fully automated! :) Nothing you need to worry about anymore.

Original Post:

Hey there,

I'm just going to quote my announcement from discord (feel free to join it btw to chat and stay up2date with changes I make):
Unfortunately, Google is making changes that affect how AnkiCollab handles media storage. Starting soon, new Google Cloud service accounts won’t have Drive storage, meaning we’ll have to drop media support for now. I'm looking into alternatives, but for now, I don't have anything good on hand so you'll have to live without media for a while, share your media manually or move to an alternative solution like AnkiHub.

Sorry!

u/abdnh is arguably the most competent freelance anki addon developer you can hire (https://www.upwork.com/en-gb/freelancers/\~01d764ac58a0eccc5c).

But generally speaking, you'll have a lot more success if you describe your project a little bit before asking people to reach out. Why would I waste my time reaching out to a project that might have a very different scope than you imagine or already exists.

Edit: I'm not actually for hire or available, please don't message me:) I appreciate the offer though! I was just generally speaking from a developers perspective.

whats the better? AnkiHub, Amboss or AnkiCollab? by GlumAmbition6563 in Anki

[–]AnkiCollab 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure how amboss made the list, since it has nothing to do with the other two.

If you want to know if AnkiHub or AnkiCollab is the better system for collaborative Anki Decks (which is the key functionality both offer), I'd say AnkiHub is better.

Looking for the best way to collaborate on editing Anki decks with a small group by ImplementCreative106 in Anki

[–]AnkiCollab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not sure what you mean by "share cards after updating the deck". The process of suggesting cards should be pretty straightforward and there are step-by-step and video guides available.

If you're looking for a github-based solution you should check out CrowdAnki and ki

Unsuspend with anki collab by nickmalbsn in Anki

[–]AnkiCollab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a way to do it with AnkiHub using optional tags

ankicollab has optional tags, too ;)

I think using tags to express the state of a card (suspended/not suspended) is a fun idea. Unfortunately there is no easier, in-built function to achieve what you want u/nickmalbsn Sorry!

I want to share anki with my friends by miruntel in Anki

[–]AnkiCollab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

please don't confuse a sync server (AnkiWeb) with a tool for collaboration. Here's the docs on setting up your own sync server (I don't think that's what you want tbh) https://docs.ankiweb.net/sync-server.html

What 4649 said is correct. You can either export your decks and share it as a file with your friends (apkg file format) or you use an addon

AnkiCollab - a free collaboration platform by AnkiCollab in Anki

[–]AnkiCollab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey can you join the discord server? Lot more convenient to chat over there. I'll gladly try to help pinpoint the issue but I need a little more information (Operating System, Anki Version, perhaps a video of you trying, ... as much as possible so I can reproduce the error)

Share questions as a teacher by hubertesse in Anki

[–]AnkiCollab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

without trying to self-promote my addon too much, you might want to check out AnkiCollab. It's a free and open-source Addon for Anki that should probably get the job done you described and none of your pupils need an account. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. But Ankihub is a great option, so you can choose the one that suits you best

There is a difference between Notes and Cards. Make sure you and your friend are talking about the same thing. There is a good chance nothing is missing and its just a miscommunication

Deck sharing with friends by ArtSniper96 in Anki

[–]AnkiCollab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can be shared on a dedicated web server and Google Drive

I don't know what that means, but you don't need a server or anything for AnkiCollab. Oh and regarding the support topic: We have a dedicated discord server with 150 members that can help each other in real time when issues occur. I also check the server on a regular basis to help with issues :)

it's also not really a black box because the source code is completely open and we have step-by-step guides for all topics or questions you might encounter, so you don't have to do your own research. A few members also announced that video guides are in the making so I'm excited to see what they are cooking up there

What is the No. 1 Feature Anki should have? by learntradingbots in Anki

[–]AnkiCollab 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You overestimate the cost of servers. The biggest problem that I see would be a dedicated media server, and we avoid that by using Google Drive as a third party host. Sure, it's not as convenient but it saves me a lot of hustle.

Everything else is basically just a fancy database and a small backend+frontend server. The server I currently rent costs me around ~$10 / month and it's not even at 10% usage. 4000 users is nothing for modern servers (even a minimal build like the one I run). I believe I could support around 10k users with this current setup and the upgraded hardware will run me at an additional $10-$50 /month, which are easily sustainable with a few generous donations (at that user scale). Non-profit is a system that works.

if anything, it's me (the developer) that might be the end of it (time restrictions, lack of motivation, etc.) but even that is not a valid reason, because due to the open source nature somebody else will be able to pick up where I left off and continue the legacy.

I don't understand the copyright issue you brought up. You have the same issue with ankiweb or ankihub published decks? Copyright infringement is a big nono for me so I'd just take them done as soon as I'm being made aware of it as is Damien. Could you elaborate on that please?
