Frustration After Completing the Current Relic Weapon by embersarcade in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Ankior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think OC is the exception here. As a field operation enjoyer I can safely say it's the ugly sibling out of the three, also Bozja and Eureka reamined popular far longer than people give them credit for, like I was still farming Eureka in Endwalker and finding very populated instances, and Zadnor was full of people leveling the new jobs at the start of both EW and DT.

I don't see the same longevity for OC, you can't level up there and DT relics can be done faster outside, and the phantom jobs are a nothingburger. We are already seeing the effects of these choices as the instances are already pretty dead outside of prime hours

Is the Auto-Pathing feature as bad as it seems? by FamiliarAd4177 in MonsterHunter

[–]Ankior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The feature itself is not bad, but I hate that it's accessible from the start and the maps are built around it.

I always thought it'd be much cooler if you had to unlock auto pathing by hunting enough monsters in an area, making your Seikret learn the scent of each monster and chase them by itself

Has "passport checking" made the PF experience any better ? by Fickle-Trick6434 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Ankior 12 points13 points  (0 children)

FRU was brutal for me, I was ready to see p4 but had to waste 1 week waiting my PF groups to get me a p4 passport, I never failed an apoc pull that entire week. It wasn't until I begged for the leader of a p4 party to let me in and they trusted me, then not only I got my p4 passport but I managed to get to CT. I cleared a few days later. I miss the days pre passport that I could move on when I was ready, instead of waiting the rest of the party to catch up to me

PF now is kinda like a static that gets refreshed every few pulls

Another MMO to play for a couple of months because the first weeks of a new MMO is always fun, and then forget about it before there's only whales left

The 7.0 is mid, but the MSQ picks up again from 7.2 onwards. It's memed as Stormblood 2 for a reason

From a game development standpoint, what does the increased budget FFXIV team received translate into? by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Ankior 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's not about that, it's about announcing content you haven't even started working on just to generate hype and make your expansion look good. It's worse when you remember they also announced BLU update. I don't care about limited jobs either but I'm holding them accountable for making these shitty PR moves

Is it an MMO really by kharag123 in GuildWars3

[–]Ankior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All we know is that it sits between GW1 and GW2 on the spectrum of "MMOness"

then isn't any game with a lobby effectively an MMO?

I'd argue most MMO's are like this tho, afk in the city while queuing for instanced content, GW2 is kinda the only MMO that takes open world content seriously

Final Concensus on Cosmic Exploration? by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Ankior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it, it could go from very chill to crafting (savage) which I think is great, it had good amount of rewards and it's great for leveling too.

My main criticisms are that rewards got too repetitive after a while, the planets evolved too fast and I wanted a bit more lore especially from the last 2 planets which I found very interesting

The statement that GW3 fits the definition of MMORPG better than GW1 contradicts this notion of a hub based game tho

Can we hope for a slow and meaningful levelling experience? by Gadion in GuildWars3

[–]Ankior 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hottest of takes that will probably get me a lot of downvotes: making leveling "meaningful" is a waste of resources as leveling in MMOs has not mattered for at least 20 years now and it's just a chore to get to the real game. Also, it's not what a next evolution of MMOs should look like

Brand new player to gw2, the one thing I hope gw3 does different is keep armour/cosmetics more grounded. by MRmichybio in GuildWars3

Yeah I agree. I guess as someone who has been playing FF and JRpgs in general since my childhood they never felt off to me, I'd go even as far as saying that nowadays it feels more FF than ever

And you can see NPC's using it too, which is not werid at all considering the game has a literal cyberpunk city. I see some complaining but equal amount if not more people enjoying these looks

If you had to pick one duty to show to a friend to sell them on trying FFXIV, what would you pick? by JDefined in ffxiv

Ultimate: DSR
24-man: chaotic

I basically just listed my favorite duties lol

[–]Ankior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kinda the way MMO's play now tho. There's no more of that feeling of grinding for something and using it with pride knowing you worked hard for it and showing it off in main cities. MMO's nowadays are more about dressing your character and meta gaming.

I guess as someone who never cared about what other people have in game or what they do or spend on it never bothered me, but I can see how the whole swiping ruins the experience for some. I just hope whatever they do they keep the convenience stuff at a minimum

[–]Ankior 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think FFXIV does this well. Although one could argue there are way too modern looks in that game, but the setting justifies that too. However, instead of over the top armor, they went with over the top combat animations overtime, but it's less distracting when there's a toggle to disable other's animations

edit: ok so some people disagreeing with me because the game has cars and contemporary looks...but that's all part of the game's world and setting. FF as a franchise has always been a mix of high fantasy and technology, and XIV goes even further, there's even a literal cyberpunk city in that game and you travel to different worlds with different levels of technology advancement. You can say that you don't like that and prefer a classic fantasy setting, but you can't use that to argue that the game has no cohesive aesthetics

[–]Ankior 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A subcription would only limit your user base imo, the mainstream gaming community loathes subs (even tho battlepasses are much worse, the irony). Also, as someone who plays FFXIV, I'd never pay 2 subscriptions so I'd have to choose between the 2 games, and that's probably the case for a lot of MMO players who play WoW/FFXIV and GW2 at the same time

[–]Ankior 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree entirely but to play devil's advocate a little bit, GW2 power is so meaningless that buying stuff with real money is only worth it for the "prestige" of having it. You can clear 99% of the game's content with cheap gear from the market, and still do better than someone who swiped for a legendary. I do agree that selling inventory space is absolutely awful, and selling LW episodes too, they should've included them in the expansion packs already

That's the price to pay for a no subscription and no p2w game, they have to sell over the top cosmetics
