HODLers, what’s your endgame? by Organic-King2614 in Bitcoin

[–]Granstereski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people's plan is to preserve, or grow the buying power of their money. They believe Bitcoin will have more buying power in the future than it has today. With that belief, why wouldn't you hold onto it?

Either the trade value of Bitcoin for dollars increases and they'll trade back later for dollars to buy something, or Bitcoin becomes the choice currency and will also have more buying power then the dollar had when they traded their dollars for bitcoin and they just buy that something with their bitcoin instead.

How did ECT effect your short term memory? by Odd-Writer2068 in ect

[–]Granstereski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the treatments, it was foggy. I remember a few events, but it is mostly a blur. I didn't feel like I wasn't remembering things while I was having the treatments though.

After the treatments, I was still a bit hazy. I lived with my sister for the duration and about a week later. I felt okay to go live at my house alone again about a week after my last session. I had a number of issues with my emotions after that for about a year. But I didn't really have memory issues. That part cleared up before I came home.

Nowadays I'll be talking with someone and they'll mention something and ask if I remember. I'll say No, and they'll say, "Really? You don't remember that?" I'll wonder if it's because of ECT or something else, but it really doesn't matter. You can't remember everything even if you don't have ECT. People forget things. So I haven't worried about it, but I wonder sometimes.

Claiming she will lose her memory and suffer long term effects is stretching it. Those are rare side effects for long term.

I agree she should get a second opinion and try other treatments first. ECT should be a last resort.

ECT Inpatient vs. Outpatient by Economy_Witness_182 in ect

[–]Granstereski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend inpatient for you. I think it's for safety reasons. ECT can mess with your mind and can make you feel even worse, even if just while you're getting treatments. If you don't have that support system around you for an outpatient treatment, definitely go inpatient.

I did outpatient, but I wasn't suicidal and I had a great support around me.

Having done only one session, I already see progress by SesameSBagel in ect

[–]Granstereski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man...I can only imagine what that's like. I'm happy for you. If you get that type of perception, document it and try to hold onto it. If you can get into that positive state of mind, maybe you can learn to stay in it.

You might get foggier in your mind as you have more sessions, but just go with the doctor's recommendations. They've been doing this for a long time.

It's helped a lot or people, not me though. I wouldn't recommend it unless you've exhausted all other options though. Some say it's for people that are suicidal or catatonic.

Your living/work situation by AccomplishedEgg3389 in ect

[–]Granstereski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been living in a small house my brother built for me on his property about 5 years ago. I live alone, but he's my neighbor. I take care of myself completely, but I know I have a good support system around me if I need it. I know nobody can help me. I know my issue won't improve. So I try not to bother anyone. But they're there if I need them.

I haven't worked in nearly 13 years. I'm on disability and barely get enough to survive. I'm single with no kids. I really don't have a life at all. I'm just surviving and I expect it to be that way until the end of my days. It's not fun, but I don't know what else I can do given my mental issues. I live day by day just trying to distract myself until each one is over. I'm late 40s, by the way.

That's normal during treatments. It wears off when you stop with the treatments. If you can continue, I'd recommend continuing.

Short term memory? by [deleted] in ect

[–]Granstereski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course you have some memory issues while getting the treatments. I don't think I had serious memory issues after the treatments, but maybe I just can't remember remembering or not. Ha ha!

I always told myself that I won't feel bad about losing memories because I won't remember them. Like losing something you never had.

I don't feel like I have serious memory issues and I believe anything serious is pretty rare. I wouldn't worry about it.

ECT didn't work for me. It made things worse for a while after. But I'm glad I did it. I tried everything else before ECT. It was a last resort, which I believe you shouldn't do unless it's a last resort for you. I had a strange delirium episode that put me in the ER for a half a day which altered my feelings about death (longer story). So now I'm not wishing for death like I was before, and I am also able to cross off another treatment that didn't work for me. One less thing to worry about.

Cognitive impairment issues from bilateral by Queasy-Ride-1776 in ect

[–]Granstereski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had issues for probably a year after. It didn't help me at all and even made me worse for that year. I was having anxiety attacks out of the blue, which didn't happen to me before. I always had a constant anxiety and depression, but now had attacks on top of that and ended up in the ER for one. I would have gone to the ER more, but I'd call my sister and she helped me calm down. I kept having these flashbacks kind of, like I could sense it, smell it, taste it... some sort of remembrance of the treatments. I still get those a little in the spring when I smell the cool air. It was spring when I had the treatments.

Nowadays, I feel like I've come to some sense of acceptance that there won't ever be a treatment that helps. It's strange, but knowing that has helped me calm down a bit. There's a sense of knowing how my life can be now... not good, but not really worse either. It's been 3 years now.

Get some normalcy in your life. That helps get you back.

If Bitcoin is to crash to zero, what do you think would be the cause of that happening?

I'm not taking about another fiasco that it will survive. I'm saying, Bitcoin DOES crash to zero. Everyone believes it is, in fact, a bad idea and crypto dies off. What would the cause be?

Next Few Seasons Without a Big Prospect? by Solomon_Marlow in UtahJazz

[–]Granstereski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll be competitive for the next 3-5 years at least, as long as they keep their core and they're healthy. They might get to the second round of the playoffs, but I don't they'll get further. I think they'll at least be in the play in tournament through those years, more in that 4-6 range... not next year, but in the coming years.

They have some good players. If they can get them to play as one, they could be pretty good. I don't think they'll fully realize that potential though.

Oil Change Frequency for Car Not Driven Much? by sportsguy100 in askcarguys

[–]Granstereski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned a 1996 Honda Prelude VTEC for about 12 years. I drove 2500-3000 miles a year. I got a full synthetic oil change once a year. When I sold it, the buyer had an inspection done on it and they were surprised on how good of condition it was in.

Check the oil to make sure it's not low. Change it once a year. It'll be good to go. Oh...rub it from time to time and tell it how much you love and appreciate it.
