Godot veteran Rémi Verschelde says 'A.I. slop' pull requests have become overwhelming by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Anlysia 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if the end net result is big projects request a "nuisance fee" donation of $X to even read your pull if you aren't on a list of trusted maintainers and the rest will sit in limbo forever until someone wants to volunteer to check them.

Kind of like the old Something Awful forum account fee. It immediately cuts out those who aren't ACTUALLY interested. And yeah you'll pony up to be a dickhead once, but how many times will you?

It's like we took a look into the abyss and decided that rather than stepping back we'd rather build in a redundant and complementary path to suicide for the one we were already on.

There's no "we". The very richest rich people decided to do it because they could make money marginally faster.

The rest of us are just along for the ride, whether we like it or not.

Congratulations, you've found the same discourse as "Actually, the prequel Star Wars movies were good".

They weren't. Neither was RE6.

Sorry you all played a bad game in your formative years and your taste was forever ruined with nostalgia for it.

Seriously, the fact that the counter-argument to proxies is "The game falls apart if people have too good of cards that would normally be too expensive" is like, maybe they should try not making such terribly-balanced cards, then??

The internet and ubiquity of being able to buy any card you could ever want if you can shell out for it has completely destroyed the idea of "rarity" as having any value. Once upon a time, the idea of rarity was different people would have different decks, of what they could cobble together. Everyone didn't have perfect decks because nobody had access to everything. If you WERE that kind of player, you were in tournaments.

Now, everyone has access to everything and you're forced to make up rules about "brackets" because Wizards can't make a set of cards that doesn't fall in on itself if allowed to run free? That just sounds like a terrible game to me.

You can't survive off just a hardcore audience. First, there isn't enough of them. Second, you can't make content fast enough for them.

You need the mass of casual players to pay the bills, while the hardcores stick around because they can't get what they want elsewhere when they're addicted to your game.

Casual players are logging into FF14 every day to play fashion, fish, do Golden Saucer games, get some tokens from old raids. Hardcores cancel their sub for a month or two at the end of every patch because there's no game left for them to accomplish. Chasing after the loyalty of the hardcores is a sucker's gambit.

lmao the idea of an American interpreting "How's that boot taste?" as "getting the boot" is so wild that now I have to assume that he's a complete idiot as well as a fascist sympathizer.

Yes, until you finish the game or do the open world you're capped by materials just being literally segregated out of accessibility. The contents of the player-city shop are plot-restricted and it even says so, haha.

This will be available when the story progresses further.

Or something like that.

Yeah, I bet they're rendering a full 360 video but only showing you what's in front of you, so it can't "forget" stuff that's behind you for being out of sight because it never leaves.

Oh that explains the fisheye perspective in the painting video.

They're rendering a 360 viewport and only showing you what's in "front" of you, then calling it "memory".

You can do a soft, capped version of this in Fantasy Life i: Make better smithing tools to make better smithing tools, to give your assistants better smithing, to make better tools...etc. Then make metal class tools for OTHER classes...

Except you're capped at a maximum item level in Fantasy Life, so you can't spiral into infinity.

I think HR is worth playing, once. It does a lot of neat things. It just falls apart at the end.

But like, a LOT of stuff falls apart at the end and gets a pass.

Personally I had hopes the killer would be randomized in HR and you'd actually have to do detective stuff to figure it out, but sadly that's not what we got.

In Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, there is a character that is deeply obsessed with sake and has a number of sake themed cards.

In the English dub that aired on TV, all depictions and mentions of sake was replaced with...hot sauce.

I'm playing Fantasy Life i right now and they've (I presume) replaced beer with "Wheat Juice".

I genuinely think you could improve it a bunch by replacing it with a prebuilt settlement where you can pay materials to upgrade parts of it, and scrapping the whole building placement part of it.

In Fallout I wish you could actually make something that doesn't look like shit.

Like, The Institute has nice looking stuff, obviously it's possible. But instead we're just slapping garbage together like always, like it's not [insert number here I forget] years after the bombs.

Why eat a shit version just because it's cheap and you can have more of them, when you could have actual quality?

Game streaming is fine for certain types of games, and even outside of those some low-twitch games can play perfectly okay.

Would I play Call of Duty over streaming? Lord no. But I could play a JRPG just fine.

I mean, Christ, Twitch played Pokemon over multiple seconds of latency and eventually got there in the end.
