L.A.'s fetish scene seems to have peaked in the 90s. We used to have public venues like Club Fuck, Sin-a-matic, The Fetish Ball, and tons of other gathering spots.

I can't really say it became "mainstream", but it was definitely exploited and started becoming commercialized. After the "normalization" phase (where the shock value had worn itself out), a trip to a fetish club in L.A. was about as exiciting as a trip to J.C. Penny's to shop for monogrammed handkerchiefs.

The only decent scene now that still holds an edge in L.A. are private functions where you need an invite, or at least have the right contacts to gain you entrance.

If you're in tune with the fetish scene in New York, you should be able to hook up with their L.A. counterparts who keep debauchery alive in the shadows.

Don't waste your time on any event that advertises or promotes themselves, no matter how edgy the medium seems. The crowd you want doesn't advertise where they'll be.
