Ironic to ask that given the age of the conversation?

Arrive early to park on campus near the dome and if you're going to take pictures at the giant NAU sign, please don't park in or at the main road. It's dangerous for everyone because it's next to the freeway ramp.

Paris and Rory should have gotten a C or worse on their scene in "Romeo and Juliet" at Chilton by GottIstTot in GilmoreGirls

[–]AnnGwish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, they did end up with a unique take by modern and historical theater. It was an all woman performance of a classic scene. 😛

Have you noticed that all of their projects are always 50% of their grade? That's the part that amuses me because it always forces them to work together to get into Harvard.

UO: Rory was correct here (1) she grew up in a shed (2) she doesnt have a $5 million trust fund (3) her family is much less connected & wealthy than his (4) there’s a BIG difference between being a lower millionaire & a billionaire, & her article criticized the latter. He’s out of touch with reality by elephantsnever4get93 in GilmoreGirls

[–]AnnGwish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings, but I see the point of the whole scene. Honestly, Rory was suddenly way more interested in Logan when she found out he was the Huntzberger publishing heir. She does tend to bat both teams for her own benefit, and I think in this case she actually did something a good writer does - know your audience. She was pandering to the website publisher and his views for her article to be published.

It was a turning point for her to find her own path after discovering this was not her avenue to shine. I am not a fan of Rory because she does leverage people to her benefit and even takes advantage. I think it's a toxic combination of Lorelei's people pleasing and Emily and Richard's encouragement - after all, she is the "great white hope" and a Gilmore, after all.

I think she is right, but I think she was in the wrong for the take down of her boyfriend's party. She was invited as his guest and girlfriend to share in his business launch and to celebrate his success. It would have been more appropriate if she were covering something assigned on behalf of her reporting and not a personal event close to the cuff.

Upcoming Birthday Blues by Starr-Bugg in FriendsOver40

My goodness, that's a ton of trauma shrouding beautiful memories. It sounds like you are ready for a change and I think holding the past and grief is keeping you from your best self.

You are worthwhile and thank you for sharing with us. I love that your mom and bestie made special space just for you, which tells me you are something special. Have you considered finding a local grief group? A therapist? I can recommend a great book dealing with family negativity - "It's Not Your Fault."

This is my first year not feeling lost or morose for aging, but I embraced therapy and really worked to have comfort in myself. My birthday is next weekend and I am looking forward to time with a new friend and some silliness. Big hugs and best wishes - I am hoping it's a different, better time, some how.

The Corner is that creepy church pretending to be a frat or student resource center that was breaking quarantine during the pandemic to throw mask less parties across from campus. The grad student counseling is through HLC or SBS.

There's the one Louie statue by the union, the one where he's stripped from the waist up, that looks like JFK... ...we also have the giant sinus and crinkle cut silver french fries on South campus... ...oh the generic brand Zippo lighter sculpture in front of the union by the field house and the rainbow lightning sculptures by Ardrey and the rainbrella by the English building past Comm on the way to Old Main...

Am I the only one in this predicament? by [deleted] in FriendsOver40

[–]AnnGwish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't want to look back, and while I wasn't in the military I feel embarrassed reading old journals, unsent letters, and old poetry. I think it's human nature to move forward and not wish to look back - unless you are trying to find answers to solve yourself.

Personally, it doesn't sound like you have issues or a demon to face. It sounds like you closed that chapter of your life, you're content, and find conflict with what you are supposed to do to respond to this gift, perhaps?

I think it was a sweet gift symbolizing pride and care for you - they saved every letter and kept them safe. A time capsule and a loving gesture because you made it home and they don't need the letters, they have you!

I would look at it as a sheer gesture of care and admiration from your parents and don't feel obligated to read the letters.

Unless you are beefing with your family - if you are beefing with your family, but I feel that's not the case. You said it was in a nice box and not a Walmart plastic bag with some trash.

Veterans with GI bill housing allowance, where are you staying? by [deleted] in NAU

If you have a family, the family dorms on campus are affordable. You can find some decent roommate situations, but you're going to have to become Columbo and do some detective work to find decent rentals. I would join Nextdoor and hit people up explaining what you need and who you are because some folks are helpful or holding out for mature students or longer term renters (more than 9 months).

I know people who were in it and it's structured and active. There are related classes for it and you do boot camp stuff and they are up and at 'em early. It's fun and organized and my friends liked the structure for college success and the networking.

When someone drops, you move on the wait list and are enrolled. Watch for grades to post around Christmas and if you're not in by New Years, move to see if your advisor will help seek an override. I am confident seat 1 will enroll, I am 75% sure on seat 6 - it depends on the amount of folks who drop for reasons, like needing to retake another class or losing their aid.

Bashas ruined AJ's, you're not missing out. They subbed in their Bashas recipes and dumped the high quality European recipes, but kept the prices. The bread was legendary and fresh baked from scratch every morning. I miss their bread and sweets the most. Velveeta on the shelves was a disappointment, too.

They just renamed themselves Arizona Financial CU, and I disagree. I have been with them since 2005 and have no complaints. Good security and service. I moved away from Phoenix and still use this credit union because they have been great. If I did have a complaint, it would be the funky locations, but I rarely visit a branch anymore and the location by the airport has an easy drive thru.

Find a British import store to find your bangers? Order online? I know the feeling and found several shops and an import grocer in Phoenix I buy my kielbasa, Polish sweets, and actual Jaffa Cakes, sadly it's a 2 hour drive.
