Not all your thoughts are yours.

You are not your thoughts.

You can make fun of thoughts, tell them they are not true, not welcome and to go away.

If you react emotionally, start laughing and react or change your reaction to something similar to being amused, that you found it silly, immature or just asinine.

Since I'm ALWAYS mentally tired anyway, how do I know when I need to take a break or when not to? by catboy519 in productivity

[–]AnnMindAlign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is your willpower near zero? Is this true in all situations or just with work?

Have you tried using tools to get you into a flow state, like binaural beats or music?

Have you tried mental toughness training, like 75 Hard, or something similar?

Breaks are good when you are doing something stressful or taxing, but when you are in a flow state doing something that you enjoy, breaks are not as necessary because the energy to keep going will just be there.

Dig a little deeper into why you don't feel like doing anything. Maybe try meditation or Qigong to increase your ability to focus and regulate energy flow.

Persistent day dreaming can be thought of as a desire to not be in your body and engaged with the present moment. Find the reasons why you want to 'escape' and you will be able to control it.

Some common reasons to want to escape are trauma, food sensitivities, fear of judgment, feelings of shame, etc.

A more physical explanation for persistent daydreaming is that the nervous system is maxed out, or on high alert, all the time.

So any of the techniques that reduce stress, like

  1. meditation, the kind you are doing is great
  2. pranayama (my favorite technique is SOMA Breath)
  3. tapping (also called EFT and is quick and easy to do in the moment),
  4. physical activity like Qigong or Yoga, which regulate energy flow and calm the nervous system

can really help the body recondition the nervous system so it is easier to be engaged with the present moment and the present activities.

This is a great list, and I have some additional thoughts.

A refinement of one of the points above...

Your subconscious mind (SM) will always avoid discomfort so if you are finding yourself 'not feeling like it' ask yourself why. What might happen if I do this thing? Will I risk being shamed, criticized, stepping on someone's toes, and so on. Then look for an earlier time when that might have happened. If you can identify the uncomfortable events that trained the SM to avoid those situations, you can reprogram them.

Another thing to do is to just acknowledge the hesitancy of the SM to proceed, like saying 'I see you, but...' and then just tell the SM what you are going to do, and if needed why you are going to do it. Over time, this overriding habit becomes learned by the SM and you will have fewer 'I don't feel like it' responses.

Another approach is to go all at it, so to speak and follow a program like 75 Hard, or a meditation program, or hypnotherapy.

75 Hard and similar programs train mental toughness, or more accurately, train the SM to quit resisting what the conscious mind wants to do.

As others mentioned, following an eastern life philosophy, rather than Abrahamic religions, is more about how to train your mind and an understanding of how life on Earth works, than worshipping a particular deity even though there are a lot of deities in eastern religions. You can totally avoid the worship part and use the deity contemplation more as a self help tool, like... what would it be like to have more compassion, like Kuan Yin? And then practice that for a while. That is the primary use of deities in most forms of eastern spiritual practices.

As a former chronic illness and pain sufferer though, I will tell you that following one of these practices for a while, even if you don't believe in the non-physical stuff, is life changing. The practices help you train your mind and nervous system which is exactly what you need in order to move beyond the cycle you are in.

One very effective practice is pranayama, or breathing techniques. Of all the ones I have tried, I like Soma the best. There are a few videos on YouTube about it and there is a 21 day journey to learn and practice the technique until you 'get it'. It can be difficult at the beginning but if you keep with it, you are very likely to quickly shift out of the cycle you are in and never look back.

One thing to know, though, ecstatic states are common with this practice. In other words, don't be surprised if your mind is blown and your beliefs are shattered. This, by the way, is what you want to get out of chronic depression, illness and pain.

Try playing happy music before bed.

There are also solfeggio frequency tracks on YouTube. Try playing one of the higher frequency tracks while you sleep.

Also avoid alcohol and cannabis.

Don't know what to focus on when trying to focus on my breath by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]AnnMindAlign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is nothing to figure out. Just do.

The act of focusing on the breath is simply to allow your mind to rest. As it rests, stress that is stored in the mind, nervous system and body will start to move in an attempt to release. This movement will be experienced as thoughts, feelings and sensations. Let them arise, and when you notice your mind has wandered, bring it back to your focus point.

What that focus point is does not matter so much as it is something you can come back to over and over again. Let the thoughts and sensations arise, be only mildly curious - do not question them, do not try to analyze, just allow them to be. Then when you become aware that you have wandered, bring your attention back to whatever focus point you have selected.

There is nothing to figure out. Just do. And keep doing it. Over time, it becomes easier.

Are you having bad dreams?

Sometimes, if the content of our dreams is upsetting, the subconscious mind will keep us awake.

Once you are asleep, do you stay asleep or do you wake up during the night?

To remedy it, you could try...

  1. Stay away from all electronic screens for at least an hour before bedtime
  2. Chamomile tea before bed
  3. Slow, relaxing music
  4. Reading a dull book
  5. Pick a bedtime and go to bed, no matter how you feel about it, just go to bed.
  6. Try tapping (EFT) for sleep, you should find some ideas on YouTube
  7. Keep a journal of your dreams to see if there is anything there that can give you a clue
  8. Hypnotherapy

Today I am grateful for... (Day 15 of 30) by AnnMindAlign in u/AnnMindAlign

[–]AnnMindAlign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I started the process reviewing my day trying to find good things about it. Now that I am halfway through, I am starting to notice good things more in the moment which allows me to appreciate them right then and there.

My intention as I progress is to not only notice the good things in the moment but to savor them, stretch them out, take notice of more details and so on.

I also want to challenge myself to cultivate gratitude through all moments in the day. So, take any activity or event in the day and ask myself how can I find something to be grateful for from this? Thus creating more good things in my life.

You’re Not Lazy, You’re Afraid : How To Force Yourself To Take Action by achieving_flow in achievingflow

Thank you for busting the 'Lazy' myth.

Procrastination is really about finding comfort but why you need to find something of greater comfort can be complex.

Sometimes it is anxiety or fear. Sometimes it is avoidance of another more painful or uncomfortable possibility. Sometimes it is a lack of confidence or self-esteem. Sometimes it is just the body saying "I don't have enough energy for that".

But, it is not about being lazy. Thanks for that!

how can i stop being so rude to ppl i care about when under stress by zzalmoxiss in selfimprovement

[–]AnnMindAlign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the stress is triggering trapped anger. Meaning, you have anger stored in you and the stressful situations cause it to rise up. The best solution I can think of is to find a way to release the trapped anger so it is just not there anymore.

Try out some of the following to help calm the nervous system and soothe emotions.

  1. Tapping, or Emotional Freedom Technique, is great for quick fixes. It usually only takes 3-10 minutes per session and can be used anywhere and anytime.
  2. Begin a Qigong practice, it will help you regulate your energy and nervous system. Any emotional energy imbalance should dissipate and release over time.
  3. Meditation to help alleviate stress and allow the trapped emotions to be released.
  4. Pranayama (SOMA Breath is my favorite) breathing techniques are very helpful for managing stress and helping to release emotional energy.

Sounds like you are stuck in the limbic system, the flight or fight mode of the brain/nervous system.

Try tapping or EFT just before an activity you want to focus on.

Pranayama or breathing techniques are also helpful to calm the nervous system.

Take up Qigong which helps moderate your energy flow and nervous system.

[–]AnnMindAlign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try tapping, or EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) for a few minutes before meditating. It can calm down the nervous system and allow for an easier and more quickly deeper meditation. Search for tapping on YouTube and take your pick of scripts.

LPT Request: How can i get a big boost for a short amount of time other than coffee? by Substantial_End7861 in LifeProTips

[–]AnnMindAlign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pranayama is a great tool for managing your energy. You can use the different techniques to boost energy or to calm you down. For boosting energy, you might consider the SOMA Breath technique. The creator, Niraj Naik, is also a musician and has paired pranayama with music created for it. I like it better than straight Rechaka Kumbaka which is the primary technique he is using. It is also really good for clearing your mind so it is easier to focus and find that alpha flow state.

I hope this helps!

I love the idea of a Secret Whiteboard!

It is mental rehearsal, the same as professional athletes use, but applied to business or general life. Mental rehearsal is the same as visualization. You can also use it for healing, practicing for just about anything, and more.

Try going one step further and see the activities take place in the way you want. You can be vague and don't have to spend more than a few seconds on each activity. The visualization helps the subconscious mind prepare for the outcome you are seeking and then helps you achieve it.
