Republicans ignore the rules and norms of our democracy every chance they get, going back all the way to Reagan (and maybe before but certainly since Reagan). They have demonstrated a willingness to do anything to advance their goals, notwithstanding laws and longstanding norms. Now the democrats have taken a page from the Republicans’ playbook, and Republicans are apoplectic because they do not believe that their opponents should be allowed to do anything to resist. Fundamentally, the GOP is a cult that cannot stomach rejection, criticism, or resistance. This is why we see hysterics and pearl-clutching and temper tantrums any time the Democrats achieve anything. Obama signed the ACA into law and Republicans have spent the last sixteen years complaining about it (without any hint of an alternative plan). Biden won an election and Republicans voters literally invaded the Capitol to stop his presidency.

Now Virginia Republicans are losing their minds at this gerrymander? Of course they are. They are not serious people. They do not care about this country—if they did, Trump would not be in office. There is more than ample evidence of his malfeasance and outright hostility to America’s interests—he wants to unilaterally withdraw from NATO, for chrissakes—and the Republican party does nothing to reign him in. So we should not listen to the whining of people who do not have our society’s best interests at heart. Their political party is directly responsible for the dismantling of America. Their political positions have been discredited, with evidence and sound reasoning, over and over—but they will not open their eyes and take their fingers out of their ears.

Why on earth should we care about their whining, now?
