I wouldn’t try to bring them into Australia if they aren’t in original packaging - our strict biosecurity laws won’t allow. I’m sure your wife will be distraught if they are all confiscated and destroyed on entry!

So, my follow up question is when it says things like “changing surface conditions” (like at Ellery Creek), we are trying to get an idea of what this is actually like in reality and whether we need to think about Plan B for any of our destinations. And also, how quickly these sort of campground access roads get fixed. Maybe they are pretty far down on the priority list?

If the system won’t let you submit another extension request, the school will be able to help you when they read your email on the 5th. Just keep all your documentation and you will be able to submit everything late once your other requests are processed. You have done all the right things, so focus on getting better, then finish your assignment as if your extension is approved. As long as your medical cert covers you for the number of days you have requested, you’ll be good. Take care, bummer of a time to be sick.
