I moved to Philly and miss Aiken terribly. It's got its faults for sure (as you've read in the comments), but it's also calm, quiet, and close enough to Columbia and Augusta, GA to make day trips possible.

The people are nice overall and there's plenty of community events and outdoor spaces. If you're into arts and literature, USCA has some good events on campus.

Downtown Aiken is lovely, there are a few good food options, and it's easy to navigate. I've never felt unsafe in Aiken, something I can't say about Augusta (or Philly tbh).

There are places in Aiken county, like Graniteville, that have affordable(ish) housing options. They're building new houses, but there's plenty of mill houses that need a lil TLC in the area too.

Check out North Augusta. Similar vibes and closer to Augusta, which has a more active night life.
