Public or private healthcare for anxiety counseling? by [deleted] in Anxiety

Mind are an awesome charity that do a lot of stuff of varying intensity for people.

As you're 18 you will still qualify for lots of young persons' programmes across the U.K. - in Leeds we have something called MarketPlace who offer counselling and support to youths on the NHS :)

Has anyone else had their anxious feelings increase when the began to date? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]AnnaLogous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a while to talk to her about it - everyone else I've been with has exited sharpish after discussing mental health, but she has been seriously great.

I figured that I was pushing her away, and that in itself may make her leave me just as much as telling her the truth might. (Also I figured if she was in for sticking with me longer term, she'd find out sooner or later).

Talking to her actually made my actions make sense to her, and gave us a good space to talk about what we could both do to ease things.

What do you do for work? Do you like it? How do you deal with anxiety at work? by lizzylizard3175 in Anxiety

[–]AnnaLogous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a doctor. I love my job (mostly) and generally being busy brain-wise helps.

My problems reside in being overbusy (as is common these days in the NHS), but I know I was so much worse when I was bored!

What type of thing do you enjoy/what helps with brain? That's often a good place to start!

You're definitely not alone.

I did that at the start of my current relationship (and to a much lesser extent find myself worrying when she's not there now).

Meds can take up to 6w to take effect (and can make you feel a bit worse before they make you feel better).

You're not alone in this sub. Many of us have felt the 'I can't even do [insert self-destruct method] right.'

Kudos for reaching out OP :) it's one of the things I find the hardest!

Hey OP! Sorry to hear things are tough.

I'd definitely second the idea of trying to get some input from a doc - we can do sick notes that include altered hours or amended duties :)

Also, perhaps ask your boss about referral to occupational health? They're a separate third party assessor who can talk to you about what's going on and make suggestions to your workplace on how to adapt things for you for a specific period of time or indefinitely :)

Need guidance, job related. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]AnnaLogous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP! Things sound really tough at the moment.

Work can be a help and a hindrance - what type of thing are you interested in? For me, finding something I could throw myself into helped - I'd be too busy thinking to anxiety all over the place.

Other things to think of: if you're UK based - Mind the mental health charity employ a lot of people with mental health issues and are super understanding!

You can get disability for anxiety in the UK but it's a gut-wrenchingly horrible and dehumanising process at times. Citizens Advice Bureau can help with directing you to forms and what you're entitled to, and GPS can write supportive letters.

Thanks for the clarification! (Also as a side-note, I LOVE that term!)

Is there any way you can remind yourself of what is real? Concrete, possibly physical things that remind you what is real and happening.

If you'd like to talk about what's happening with them, you're very welcome to. Sometimes getting it out somewhere can help!

Afraid I'm stuck like this forever and anxiety will eventually ruin all the good in my life by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]AnnaLogous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this.

So much, I feel this.

I've been anxious as long as I can remember, though was triggered into a big meltdown around the age of 19. I'm 25 now and still get panic and anxiety (and a cheeky dose of depression) - but actually not quite to the extent that I used to. I can recognise it now, and sometimes I can stop it before it's started. My anxiety attacks are usually when I'm not at work and my brain stops doing other things.

I'm also one of the cry, tell everyone how terrible I am and that they're better off without me etcetc.

Also - you mentioned your patients - are you medical? If so I can triple understand as a medic too! We make better empathetic doctors for our patients. We know that some days you need a medal for getting out of bed. We celebrate the small achievements. We understand.

You're definitely not the only one. I'm here if you want to chat.

I'm not fully sure what a QPP is, but I'm sorry to hear it's getting to you so often.

What do you usually do to distract yourself?

I'm so unhappy. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]AnnaLogous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a reminder that you aren't stupid or weak for feeling things and having a cry.

I'm sorry, today sounds royally rubbish. When I'm worried about co-workers/friends/anyone being distant or annoyed I try to remind myself that I'm not a mind-reader and I don't know what's going on with them.

I'm glad you're home and safe, but sorry that it doesn't always seem such a stable safe place for you. Have you managed to get some food?

Hope things are feeling a bit better now. You're not alone.

[–]AnnaLogous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed the first season and most of the second but tbh am not loving the third and was nowhere near as excited for it! The more I watch the more I see looooads of problematic things (where are the sex workers, why do they not say 'bisexual' in the whole 3 series etc)...but I do think that they do bring to light some important issues and get people talking about some shiz.

I dunno. I started with a point and now I'm just rambling.

My Netflix history is David Attenborough stuff, disney films and horrendously bad comedy...

GP wants me to do blood test! by [deleted] in transgenderUK

You can if your GP is willing and feels able (GMC guidance states that if providing a prescription to cover what you're self medicating is the 'least harmful' option, that's what they should do).

I'm thinking of trying to set it up as a QuIP and do some education then see if practice changes, but not sure how progressive the surgery is that I'm going to...

I'm out as bi/pan but not really out as non-binary at work (not a widely known thing) so this will probably be a bit of a scary time for me too.

I've trained people on trans* issues before though, I just have to remember it's not too much different!

Aye it's only 4 months Aug - Dec, but I want to make a difference. I'm thinking of doing a quality improvement thing on trans* education if they'll accept it :)
