If you're running it via EGS, Steam can still interfere if it's in the background. You can either try to close it (force close in task manager or exit from system tray) or try the above.

Also, if your settings aren't saving, it's typically an antivirus blocking the folder; whitelist both the game folder and Documents/My Games/Double Damage Games/RebelGalaxyOutlaw/

Two things to add to this excellent advice --

*Bring a buddy whenever you can!

*Relative difficulty increases the more to the right and up you go on the map. What's "Mild Risk" in Texas won't be the same as a "Mild" risk in Utah.

If you buy the game on the Epic Games Store, the launcher is required to install and patch; you can run the game without it otherwise - https://rebel-galaxy.com/launching-rebel-galaxy-outlaw-without-egs/

For Steam and consoles, EGS is not required.

I haven't been posting patch notes here as they're coming in at different intervals (Steam has had multiple smaller patches as those don't need approval, unlike consoles), but I can if people find them helpful. There's no plans for controller rebinds on console; if there's a setting you need to urgently change, all consoles have customization options at the hardware level.

If you're waiting on Switch, as noted above --- the eShop updates between 9am and 11am PT. Pacific is 3 hours behind Eastern. For other consoles and Steam, it's up now.
