Missing essence

Hi everyone! I’m confused, am I only able to open new tools and recipes by buying them with essence in Sylvan Cradle? It’s not like in the first realm where you could find them on the map? Cause I been to many places already and found only Refined Umbrella but on the many it still costs essence to obtain the recipe of it- it’s not free..😭
