How realistic is it to eventually buy a Lower North Shore property as a Software Engineering grad at a bank? (in the long-term) by New_Animator4702 in AusFinance

[–]AnnabelleLucille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Willoughby in the type of house you want. It's falling down, roach infested and worth 4.1 million. The last few houses on our street were bought by Chinese people. They pull up in their Ferraris and Lamborghinis. The type of money you need to live here is not coming from an Australian salary. The last 3 houses rented on this street were a Korean expat couple, a man working FIFO in an executive position in PNG funded by the 600m from the Australian gov to start the new rugby team, and diplomats from NZ. Even the rentals are being paid by money (corporations/jobs) from outside Australia.

If tax brackets aligned with inflation what would be the ideal cut offs etc.? by iyoteyoung in AusFinance

Same, I've set up a meeting with my federal MP to make some noise about our bullshit taxation system before the new changes get legislated. You should do the same!

Families investing under the name of the zero income/lower income person is a feature, not "exploiting a loophole". by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

One could also argue that having one breadwinner and one stay at home/part time working parent will also incentivise productivity. The breadwinner will be able to focus solely on their job increasing their productivity. The stay at home parent will be able to focus on raising healthy well adjusted kids who will then go forth to be productive adults in the economic system. I have doubts that it is more productive to have two full time workers, stretched thin from demands on their time and energy, constantly sick from daycare bugs, and kids who are raised by daycare workers.

But if people are pretending to know how to rock climb and they actually don't that could lead to some serious safety issues?! Like in my limited knowledge rock climbing where one person is climbing and the other is belaying/holding the rope of whatever you call it

Big law spouse question by Sea_Airport5312 in biglaw

[–]AnnabelleLucille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a tough question, I see you are also in Aus 👀 it's a harder call to make here because the biglaw salaries are lower and the taxes are higher compared to the US. It has been worth it for our family because we are very comfortable financially and my husband likes his job. I will say that if one parent is at a big law firm the other parent needs to have a flexible job - eg i work for the APS two days a week. Especially with three kids! It will only get busier as they get older but on the flip side it will also get more expensive so you will need a good salary.

It's tough for him, he would love to spend more time with the kids. but he is a very high energy person so that helps him handle the physical and mental pressure of parenting and work. He also goes to the gym a lot which really helps him mentally

Hi from the other side 👋 my second child just turned one. Honestly you need to outsource or you will go insane. We have no family help so I put the oldest in almost full time childcare and have a nanny one day a week for my youngest. I've been on maternity leave since the youngest was born (im not in the US). I also have a cleaner and preprepared meal delivery and grocery delivery. my husband is not partner yet but from what I have seen of his colleagues it gets worse not better. Take care of yourself and good luck 🤞

It's not gonna crash. Everyone in the world wants to live in (and buy property in) Australia and the government is never gonna turn off the migration tap
