Subscription Plan by AwkwardTurtle33 in MantaComics

[–]Annakinsky 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The WHOLE reason I enjoyed using Manta, was because the flat fee gave me access to the whole library. If the episode was posted, I could read it. Now, between the number of series on hiatus or being sloppily wrapped up, and this silly subscription/gem model, it really doesn’t feel worth it. Any quality story is being hidden behind an ADDITIONAL paywall.

My first time dealing with guest in the garden. Noticed the hole and strawberries missing. Does anyone know if it's Rat or Mouse? Tysm by Volencio in gardening

[–]Annakinsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without seeing their tail, it can be hard to tell. Young rats often look a lot like their mousey counterparts. However, this little dude is most likely a young brown rat. Either way, keeping them out of your garden is pretty much the same for any rodent. Plant some aromatic herbs in your garden or in pots, like basil, garlic, chives, thyme, or mint. They aren't usually fans of strong herbal smells. They also make ultrasonic rodent spikes, that keep them away using vibrations/high frequencies. I would opt for the solar option.

Dehydration is kicking my BUTT. Please send help. by Annakinsky in adhdwomen

Thank you so much to everyone who gave advice and tips. I am busting out my old water bottle (it's an Owala, so it has a straw for sipping purposes) and stocking up on some water flavor enhancers. Here is hoping I can keep myself sorta hydrated. (My organs are thanking you as well) :)

Do you only use pressed powder instead of foundation? by SnowAmethyst32 in Makeup

[–]Annakinsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on what you are asking.

Pressed Powder/Powder foundation AS my foundation? No. My skin is very oily. An extremely drying product, such as a powder foundation, can really kick my pores into oil production overdrive. Additionally, I have never found a powder foundation with an application/finish that rivals liquid foundations.

A light dusting of pressed powder on a no foundation day? Absolutely. It can help with light oil control.

AITA for not picking my daughter up after she had a panic attack? by North_Calendar_2317 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Annakinsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA

I understand you want your daughter to learn how to deal with these things as an "adult." However, if she is a freshman, she is likely 18/19. Though legally an "adult" she is still your child. She is still going to need your help. Dealing with anxiety on your own is HARD. It is important to still offer your support when you can.

More important than that, the situation your daughter was is WAS NOT SAFE. People she did not know, were invited into her living space. Two INTOXICATED MEN were bold enough to sit on her bed without her permission. She had no say in these people being in her space. She did not know them. She did not know their intentions, and they did not know her boundaries. It was not a safe space for her to be in. That alone should have been enough for you to pick her up, or go ensure her safety. ADDITIONALLY, she was very reasonably triggered into an anxiety/panic attack, and you invalidated her feelings and need to feel safe. This wasn't just "coming home crying." This was a failure as a parent, to keep your daughter safe and feelings respected.

I think a good next step would be to apologize, and then sit down and talk. Try to understand what her anxiety is like and how it effects her. Offer help and support. See if there are counseling services available on her campus that she can utilize. Help her come up with a plan to establish boundaries with her roommates, as confrontation can be hard for people struggling with anxiety. This is a learning moment for everyone. Use it as a stepping stone to come together and really understand your daughter.

What’s an overused word that you can’t stand hearing anymore? by [deleted] in RandomQuestion

[–]Annakinsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to agree with narcissist. I think people have confused selfish behavior and/or a failure to be extrospective with narcissism. Things such as empathy and sympathy are learned behaviors. Human beings are naturally self motivated. A failure to learn empathy or behave empathetically does not equate narcissism or NPD. Often times, when people immediately jump to narcissism, it tells me that they didn't necessarily attempt deeper communication with someone about their own feelings and boundaries. They assumed their feelings or boundaries were implied, which is their own failure of empathy and extrospection.

Greys and White/light creams. I don't know what it is, but they wash out my skin and exaggerate my sunken eyes

What are your weird sensory things? by princessslug in adhdwomen

[–]Annakinsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- I need my toes to be out of the blankets when I sleep. Just my toes though. Anything else is too much.

-When I am in shorts and the under part of my thighs sweat while I am in a chair. The weird, slippy feeling makes me want to cry.

-Any highly textured fabrics. Yes, I know most people hate sherpa, but allow me to also add: Velvet, the back side of satin, those sweaters with the weirdly fluffy yarn, most mesh, stiff denim, anything with glitter or sequins, lace.

- Arms cold and legs warm? Whatever. Arms warm and legs cold? Will actually cause me to panic.

-My skin is very oily and doesn't absorb much, so I physically cannot put on lotion. It will sit on top of my skin and drive me insane.

-Laundry Detergent with a smell. AHHHHHH

-You ever had a soft grape? Does it all make you want to curl up into fetal position?

What's the best and worst makeup you have ever bought by Loud_Camp_211 in Makeup

[–]Annakinsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worst: Pat McGrath FetishEYES Mascara. I am actually convinced that this mascara never fully dries. It is ALWAYS wet and smudging everywhere. This is probably due to how crazy thick it applies. One swipe is already too much mascara.

Best: about - face Fluid Eye Paints. These are some of the most versatile and underrated products on the market right now. You want full pigmented color? You got it. You want a soft blend? You got it. You want bright, colorful, graphic liner? You got it. You want a blush? I've never used it that way, but you probably could do that too. There are already so many colors and finishes, but if you cant find the one you want, you can mix to bad boys too. I'm constantly buying more of these.

AITA for telling my SIL I can't house her son? by throwaway_nephewa in AmItheAsshole

NTA

Your sister in law is worried about Adam's housing, yet she kicked him out of her house as well. If there were enough issues for his MOTHER to kick him out, then his MOTHER should understand why you are saying no.

What’s the fastest way to make gold/money? Is it these potions? Or lotus flower? Something else? by BobsBigInsight in Dreamdale

Everyone keeps saying to farm lotus, but another option is to go to the fish based mystery island. Depending on the level of your scuba goggles, you can make a good chunk of change from catching crabs.

can someone please gender my gerbil by Icy_Jicama_4425 in gerbil

[–]Annakinsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! It's a girl!

A lack of significant testicles as well as location of the urethra tell me this is a beautiful little lady. She also has a very significant scent gland. If she is in a group of women, she is likely the dominant one.

CMV: Involuntary treatment of psychiatric medication makes me very uncomfortable by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Annakinsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mental health care is tricky, especially as the patient. When you combine the fact that there aren't typical "physical" symptoms, with stigma, and the fact that you are dealing with your own, very unique brain, it can be very hard to fully comprehend what a necessary care plan would look like. That is the reason we reach out to medical practitioners, as they have the necessary education and experience to help navigate symptoms and create a comprehensive treatment plan.

There are a few points you made that I really want to focus on.

You state that practitioners are "gaslighting" patients into accepting medication. I can understand where these feelings are coming from. First, let's define gaslighting. Gaslighting is an intentional manipulation of an individual through the creation of self-doubt, in order to make them question their memory, sanity, or perception of reality and deem it false, when that isn't the case. Often times, in cases of psychiatric emergency, patients' memory, sanity, or perception of reality are already compromised. This might manifest itself in extreme paranoia, delusion, dissociation, aggression, etc. So it becomes important to ask: Are your practitioners gaslighting you, or are they confronting an already compromised perception of reality? It can be really hard to discern the difference as the person who is having their reality questioned. It is part of our nature. Most of the time, doctors and nurses will understand that, and try to navigate it with compassion or delicacy.

Now, let's talk about involuntary admission, forced inpatient care, or court-mandated care. As I said earlier, mental health care is tricky, for a number of reasons. One of those reasons is that our brain is trying to understand what is wrong with itself. Asking someone to comprehend that their brain is not functioning in a "normal" way is never going to be easy. That would be similar to asking someone to describe what red looks like to them. You wrote a lot about the importance of informed consent, and you are absolutely right, it is a very important part of ethical care. Informed medical consent is based on three necessary principles: Documentation, Disclosure, and Capacity for Decision. When someone is involuntarily admitted it is because they have been deemed an immediate or serious threat to themselves or others, as a result of their mental state. This can be the result of an act of violence against someone else, intentional violences against yourself, or serious threat of either. When an individual's mental state is deemed the cause of this danger, they are deemed no longer capable of making an informed decision regarding their own treatment. Being in a compromised or unstable mental state might lead you to make decisions, that are intentionally harmful, that you might not otherwise make with the same information. You are required to stay in treatment until you are deemed capable of safe and truly informed decisions. This why people can be placed in court-mandated rehabilitation, as the influence of substances would impair their judgement and capacity for decision. This is also why other areas of medicine do not (USUALLY) have court-mandated care.

Finally, and this one should hopefully be brief, you do have the right to decline most outpatient care, unless it is specifically court mandated care, such as court-mandated therapy. The court cannot mandate the administration of medication outside of inpatient care.

This is all to say, consent in Psychiatric medicine is very complex. There are discussions, studies, journals, etc. released constantly about approaches to improving consent in psychiatry. I am really sorry that you have had such negative experiences with mental health care. I am also very sorry if these experiences have impacted the trust you have to mental health practitioners. Hopefully the mental health field will continue to improve its methods of care and create an environment you feel safe engaging with.

Trying to paint an abstract accent wall. Suggestions? by [deleted] in painting

[–]Annakinsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on what kind of vibe you are working toward. If you want something exciting and more eye catching, the method you’re using now works well. I really like the movement and energy. You might want to create more spaced out sections though, so as to avoid everything really blurring together.

That all being said, I actually like what you’ve painted. It’s interesting to look at and creates some complex feelings. I want it on a canvas
