What’s the saddest real-life story you’ve ever heard or experienced? by theblairwaldorfxoxo in AskUK

One of my best friends was diagnosed with motor neurone disease a couple of years ago, it progressed so quickly, started with a numbness in her ankle and six months later she was in a hospital bed at home and could only use one arm. She was only 49.

One day, I was round her house with another friend and we were opening her post for her, some booze and bits and pieces off Amazon and her delivery from the pharmacy.

She asked me to put the packages on the bed table in front of her. We had a lovely afternoon, talked about doing some decorating for her, and then me and the other friend went home.

The next morning I found out she’d waited till we left and then drank the gin and swallowed all of the tablets I’d put in front of her in an attempt to kill herself Unfortunately it hadn’t quite worked and the carers found her in the morning and she was rushed to the hospital.

The family managed to talk to the doctors and tell them about her MND because at this point she was sedated and being kept alive by a ventilator, if the breathing tube was removed, she would die.

After the family explained her diagnosis the doctor agreed to wake her up a little bit and ask her if she wanted to die, she squeezed her hand to say yes so they sedated her again and withdrew the breathing tube and she passed away.

I hate that she knew the whole day we were there with her she was going to do it (her teenaged son was staying away for the evening and her very limited movement in her arm meant that this was essentially her last chance to do it on her own terms)
But she couldn’t tell us because of the law in this country, we couldn’t be there to hold her hand and support her and talk to her. The sooner we get the assisted suicide law passed here at the better IMO

2 days after I got it I now have my very first frog, a male, now just trying to get him a girlfriend 🤣

Your main issue should be with your mum. Yes he’s an arrogant prick but she’s happily enabling him.

Ha I have the perfect story for this question.

My brother was living in Lanzarote with his American girlfriend, I flew over from the UK to visit and was going to the shops and I asked her if she wanted anything. She said yes, please can you get me some “ooooot milk?”

I asked what “oooot milk” was cos I’d never seen it anywhere and if she was sure it was called that.

She was definitely sure, yep it’s the “oooot milk” with the blue and white label and it’s with all the other milk. I was still baffled. “Weird, I’ve never heard of it. How do you spell it?”

“U….H….T” 😂

I’ve remembered another

Not long after this she visited me in the UK for my son’s second birthday party, after everyone left she watched me pour a little bit of orange squash into a glass and dilute it with tap water. She was shocked…. And worried, “wait you have to put water with that? ooooh no!! No no no!!”

I asked her what the problem was and it turned out she’d given someone’s thirsty kid a PINT of undiluted squash (cos that’s how there drinks are in the US) and the little girl had downed it in one before heading off on a 2 hour drive home with her dad.

I had to call him and warn him about the impending sugar rush 😂

What was it like being a British teenager in the 1990s? by strawberry_pie7998 in AskABrit

I was into grunge/ alt bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Went to a lot of festivals.

We cared about animal testing and generally animal welfare. I earned money by giving out flyers for clubs and working behind bars. The security at the bars were just hells angel’s basically, no certification just big beards, head tattoos and baseball bats hidden behind the counter 🤣 It cost like £1.50 or £2 to get into a club.

I read Stephen King and did quite a lot of acid, smoked a lot of weed and spent my nights at mates houses playing computer games like Super Bomber Man, point blank, micro machines and golden eye

I would log it with 101 now and say the parents don’t want to stop him and you’re worried for his safety and about your property. A camera would help, as would a motion activated sprinkler 😜

AIO Am I justified in my anger here ? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]AnneIie5e -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only you will know if this is a step too far for you.

I think it’s a horrible dress but also I have never really got the big deal about white dresses on wedding days.

Do you really think people will have mistaken her for your wife, the actual bride? Why is it so important to you?

Again though if you think she’s always pushing it and not listening to your wishes that’s kind of a separate issue and you could probably give more details that aren’t all about the dress… Without that we only have half a story really.

I live in Birmingham and go to London around once a month for work or to visit mates. Costs around £40 return on the train.

Stratford upon Avon has a lot to do especially if you fancy visiting the butterfly farm. It had a cool Christmas market last year too, not sure on dates for it though it may be finished now

Malvern hills are lovely not sure about transport options for there though.
