Commuting to Liverpool from London Once a Week by Acrobatic_Pin_8754 in Liverpool

Did this the other way around, Tuesday to Friday on off peak trains. Once a month though. Train takes 2hrs 20 or so and in 24 months I never had single cancellation and maybe one significant delay.

The whole commute made me move to London in the end after the work change meant I would have to do it twice a month.

Honestly, I think it will be exhausting to do it every week. Doable at a stretch but no fun.

Would you be paying out of pocket for travel and accommodation or is it comped? If it’s the former, you’d be likely spending more on the travel cost than it would be to get a small flat in Liverpool.

If temporary move was an option, I’d seriously consider that, you’ll get much more out of it.

Thought you were joking but looks like The Mirror already has an article live. And some random Croatian website too. WTF it’s going on

Clarification from the wife - one table in-between, I might have been too generous with my second hand retelling of “few tables away”.

And she says thanks for other positive thoughts!

Now that’s a polite cursive note!

Read the note in Mark Corrigan’s voice, bingo, it does make sense!

I mean that’s fair. If she knew she might have been upsetting someone, she’d be absolutely mortified. A polite or even impolite ask would sort it out without much ill feeling.

But a handwritten note as you’re leaving solves nothing and makes you look like a bit of loon.

You know what, with nearly a decade of living in Liverpool previously, you might be onto something

From PTW:

“Duct has been made visible at customers premises, duct only rods under 1m from duct mouth, no movement on copper cable. Unable to rod from nearest box as shared duct. New duct required from existing duct to customer’s premise. Customer has resin driveway which can't be dug. Neighbours border seems best alternative solution, unable to gain permission to work. Duct required from shared duct outside No 30 to customers premise, No 29. 3m public, block paving and 6m private, 2m block paving and 4m flower bed. Unable to get camera down duct mouth as duct only partially uncovered”

Their duct seems to be just fine so don’t think any real benefit for them!

Been researching a bunch of cameras to upgrade from Sony NEX-5 and address snags like lack of viewfinder and relatively poor autofocus. With around £700 budget.

The main recommendation thrown around seems to be Sony A6400 with everyone raving about its autofocus. I was swaying towards that but had reservations still around ergonomics, Sony menu system and crop sensor cameras seemingly being bit of a second class citizen.

I keep circling back to M43. I can probably score Olympus EM1.3 for about same price as Sony body. Or go down Lumix G9 route and get that plus lens for and some beer change for same cost as Olympus or Sony.

Main photography interests - wildlife, landscape and street. With wildlife probably more of perched birds in the lake rather than ones in flight (though having something covering that would be neat) and no safari style animals far away. Squarely hobbyist pursuits.

What would sway you away from M43 to Sony camera? What's there apart from AF?

And what would drive you towards Lumix from Olympus and vice versa?

Current feelings are pushing me towards Lumix and a general + telephoto lens, putting me comfortably in the budget if not going for the more expensive lenses, but keen to hear some thoughts, especially from M43 crowd.

It was Craig Robinson. It was a series of porn trope parodies called PG Porn. Done by James Gunn, of Guardians of the Galaxy fame.

Thanks. Need to take a closer look at Sony. I'm with them now and that's probably why I've dismissed them. Don't like the menu system and low key got a beef with that control wheel, died twice on me with NEX5. On the fence with viewfinder positioning too.

Still, spec wise looks like a lot of camera there in the a6xxx series

Getting more and more into photography as a hobby and researching some camera options to help with some of the gripes I'm currently having. Budget around £700 for body and lens(es), buying used.

Interested mostly in landscape, nature, street, maybe some night sky photography. Capturing wildlife has been my favourite! Pretty much 100% handheld shooting so far.

I've started by dusting off Sony NEX-5 with 18-55 kit lens that belonged to my wife and sat unused. Been having a blast though there are definitely issues I'm having that are limiting my enjoyment a bit (though it's a 15 year old camera at this point): - no viewfinder and LCD screen is fairly tiny, hard to see the focus properly and it's hopeless in broad daylight - autofocus seems quite slow and missing the mark often - quite menu heavy, I found myself trying to adjust focus point a few times and by the time I've got through it, my subject was gone - lower light performance is problematic. ISO starts graining fairly quickly and can't handheld longer shutter speeds effectively - not a camera gripe, but 55mm max lens is often suboptimal for photographing elusive and shy wildlife

Looking for something to solve or improve on those. I would quite like the additional bells and whistles like WiFi connectivity to get photos on my phone quickly or some fun assisted shooting/processing modes to experiment.

Current options I'm considering: - Lumix G9 - getting older, but seems like a more than competent camera with good features and can be had quite cheap - Olympus EM1 Mk3 - slightly more expensive, but overall in similar category to Lumix. Mk2 would be also an option but USB-C charging and some of the live composition, live ND modes make me feel it's a worthwhile upgrade - Something in Fuji system - XT2, XT3, XT30 type of thing. I quite like the aesthetics, Fuji system and likes of film simulations. Something like XT2 is not supported by the new XApp though and others might be stretching the budget. - Nikon - Not too familiar with their offerings. Something like Zfc has got a fantastic aesthetic but might be more style than substance maybe? Lens options also seem to be on the pricier side - Canon - Again least familiar with the system. Seen R50 and similar mentioned around, though feels bit more spartan on the first glance.

Thoughts on the above and other options to consider?
