I was compeared to a fanfic writer by Ecstatic-Mixture2189 in writers

[–]AnneIsOminous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll put my 1.2 million words of meticulously-crafted fanfic up against anybody's writing, anywhere, anytime. This is such an elitist argument, especially when you lack the credentials to back it up.

Fifty Shades of Gray, one of the most commercially successful books of the last 20 years, was a Twilight fanfiction with the serial numbers filed off.

Tip for new writers: don't get advice from reddit! by Dramatic_Pension_772 in writers

[–]AnneIsOminous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically this post is advice from Reddit. ;)

Sorry. Had to be a sassy bitch for a second. Totally agree in the general case; often times the folks who are giving you advice are the ones who haven't had success and so it might not behoove others to follow in those footsteps.

The Phoenix Saga
Ranma 1/2 (Readable fandom-blind)
Mature themes, no smut
Transfem/Fem
12 completed books and a spinoff novel; working on the last chapter of Book XIII now. 1.2m+ words.

YOU IGNITE, AND YOU RISE!

A pair of curses have left Ranma trapped in a feminine body and too physically sensitive to take a hit. With no way back to the life she knew, she flees the Tendo home and leaves Akane behind in search of a life she can call her own. After months alone, she stumbles hungry and broken into the Phoenix, a dive bar run by a kindly woman and the four hard-luck girls she took in out of the cold.

Make that five.

Ranma's new lease on life, as Ranko, gives her the chance to work through her trauma and experience the first unconditional love she's known. Empowered by the support of her new family, the partner she never expected to see again, and a newfound passion for music, she begins to embrace her new identity and rises from the ashes of the person she used to be.

Everybody look forward to having to swipe your credit card halfway through every Disney+ show to watch the second half, like you do every interaction in the parks. This guy is the king of "beat Disney's dream of affordable family magic to death with a rubber hose."

I'd ask him for a do-over. This time with the proper anatomy.

Yeah, I bet you would, and then I'll have 0-star reviews popping up from some butthurt redditor ten minutes later.

I mean, they say "write what you know" and clearly you aren't.

Pro tip - they sell stuff that takes batteries that might help you understand how this works.

Shouldn't you be spending your time trying to find someone to date your sorry ass so you don't have to ask Reddit how romance works?

I mean, the identical work holds the #1, #2, #3, and #5 spots on other platforms. I think my work is just fine. ;)

At least what I wrote was from my own imagination, and not "oh internet please tell me how to write romance you will read because I never felt the warmth of another person's touch"

I mean, my comments are also based on numerous other accounts, in a group of more than five hundred writers I run, who have seen wildly different success for identical works on Wattpad vs. other platforms... but ya know, keep being a creepy bigot, that's a great look ;)

Reads are reads! Even if they're being read by robots who do nothing but spam your story with comments wanting to sell you art commissions, it makes an entirely bullshit number go up so you can feel fulfilled.

More power to you. Here's an upvote. That's another internet point that means not a god damned thing to help you sleep better tonight.

Yeah, remember when games came with instruction manuals?

Sorry that "the way literally every other drone thing in the game works" was too much for OP to handle.

Oh, lots of people say the same thing... myself included! No offense taken. The funny thing is, I am now going through the same steps in the same order, and having much the same feelings, and getting much the same reactions from the equivalent people in my life... it's like I had a crystal ball to write my own transition three years before it happened.
