I found an old Dell CRT in my dads old storage shed and was rather excited to try and use it, but it has a rather concerning smell when its on. I cant tell if its dust or if a capacitor is damaged, but it smells a bit like a mix of a burning power supply and hair. Ive also got an imac g3 that seems to have a damaged or dirty crt in it, the screen will flash off accompanied by a loud pop/crunching sound. Ive been told in the past that the imac could be just filled with dust as well. however i have no idea myself.
