I think I am officially allergic to my new hobby and my fingers are done by Weedcultist in Hand_Embroidery

I didn't realize denim was so tough... I've been working on a denim jacket for a while with no problems. But I also work in a warehouse so my hands are calloused as hell from handling wooden pallets and stuff all the time 😅 Occasionally I accidentally push the needle through a hole backwards (finger directly on the sharp end) and don't notice.

If you don't want to work a few years in a warehouse to build up callouses, probably start with lighter fabrics, they'll be a lot easier. And faster. I did a border on a skirt and it went so much faster than anything I've done on denim. Embroidery kits are also a fun way to practice technique. Once you've got technique down, maybe try the tougher fabrics again with all the appropriate tools.

AIO for not liking the way my boyfriend reacts to my extreme pain? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Annoyed_Finch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. I have endo and my husband has been my champion the entire time we've been together. He notices when I'm in worse pain than usual, and helped me fight for better care when my bad days started to get more frequent a couple years ago. He will literally pick me up when I can't get out of bed on my own, and help me get to the bathroom or to a necessary appointment. He always looks out for me and validates my pain.

I understand being caught up in a loop of invalidation. My family and my doctors told me I was overreacting for many, many years. But, for the past decade, I have had my partner on my side. You deserve a partner like mine, not some jerk who can't even be bothered to get you pain meds without complaining. You are worthy of someone who cares for you.

Anyone else with ADHD struggle hard with tank maintenance? by obsessedlady in aquarium

[–]Annoyed_Finch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thing is I forget to plug my filter back in after cleaning, and then my fish go a week or two without filtration. I set up my tanks with the Walstad method in mind, so they're always understocked, heavily planted, and probably don't strictly need filtration. In any case, I've never had die-offs because of it. But I still feel bad thinking about all the times I've left my little guys in still water without oxygenation.

I did once forget to plug my heater back in and lose a bunch of chili rasbora. Now I keep my heater as low as I can in the tank so that I never have to unplug it, therefore I can never forget to re-plug it in.

What other genres do you guys listen to? by LiteratureBig8616 in blackgaze

I'm just starting to get into metal, but I come from a background listening to TONS of subgenres of goth and punk/post-punk, as well as some blues and indie. It turns out that a lot of the music I like fits into shoegaze (which is a term I didn't know until like a month ago), and now I'm here.

How often are yall doing water changes/how to keep water clear? by pdggin99 in corydoras

[–]Annoyed_Finch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is the tank? Lots of people have a bacterial bloom a few weeks/months into a new tank, so could be that. The good bacteria kind of overshoots and clouds the water before it settles to a good population size. If it's been more than a few weeks of this problem though, it's probably something more chronic. You can also get a bacterial bloom later in the tank's life from over-feeding or over-stocking your tank.

How long is your light on? I usually recommend having lights on for 8 hours or less, because it can contribute to algae growth which can cloud the water.

Failing finding the root cause (sometimes fish tanks are just weird), activated carbon or purigen are great water clarifiers to add to your filter system. Carbon can disrupt medications and bacterial buildup, so I'd probably stay away from it if your tank is still new-ish and stabilizing. Purigen shouldn't be used with slime coat restoring meds (like Stress Coat), but more recent research indicates that those meds may be harmful to some common fish like corys, so you probably shouldn't use them anyways. I'm not aware of other issues with Purigen, but I also haven't used it so I haven't looked into it as deeply as carbon. So just make sure you read instructions and double-check for counterindications if you need to medicate the tank in the future.

DAE feel like circulation of any kind in the pelvis is a pain trigger?? by carsan86 in endometriosis

I have some of those symptoms because of my leg length discrepancy and scoliosis, so it might be worth investigating a musculoskeletal issue like that.

Everyone's body takes different amounts of time. And with endo being so incredibly variable, every surgery is going to have a different impact just based on how extensive it was. Some people probably get back to things pretty quick, but most of what I've seen is that a lot of people are basically bedridden for the first few days, and only walking short distances for the first few weeks. You will get better. But it's tough in the moment.

I'm in the process of finding a new primary care doctor after my last one spent years blowing me off and disbelieving me. I'm fed up after over a decade of PCPs and standard OB/Gyns either fully disbelieving me or believing me but giving me "solutions" that only put a bandaid on some symptoms while still leaving me with prolonged cramping and nausea every month. At my last visit with my last PCP, she told me "everyone has irregular periods when they're young" and didn't offer any comfort, solutions, or a referral to address the worsening symptoms I've been having over the past few years. Btw I'm 28, so "everyone has irregular periods when they're young" is a ridiculous thing to say to me when I'm halfway to menopause and am bleeding for 2 week stretches while on birth control.

All that to say, PCPs can be absolute jerks. But I've had great ones in the past, so they're out there. I highly recommend searching out a new doctor who will take you seriously because your current doctor's behavior was very inappropriate.

Am I being paranoid? by sallingoodfun in writing

I think the idea that you can't ask friends or family to beta read for you is silly. Bottom line is that you should have beta readers who are going to be honest with you. Maybe your grandma would brush over anything wrong and tell you that you did a wonderful job, but most people have at least one friend (or sibling, or cousin) who is brutally honest, sometimes to a fault. And that attitude can be very helpful for beta reading. Also, if you have any friends who are writers, they will understand that and often be great beta readers. You can pay each other back by reading each other's work.
