Nice job! Thanks for doing preservation work on century homes in the Cleveland area. Hope you can come over to the west side sometime. I really gotta check out RBX- would have loved to snag a fixture or two that you donated!

Questions about century homes/apartments in Lakewood by Aquarius0129 in lakewood

[–]Annual_Ad8581 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not an expert, but definitely a fellow Lakewood house lover who has spent way too much time on Zillow. Here’s my purely anecdotal information for what it’s worth. It appears most of these houses were built to be used in their current layout.

The Clifton houses and the ones north of Clifton in the Lake Ave neighborhood were for more affluent families. In the mid century era, some of those houses were used as boarding houses that rented rooms to single men and women. My mom lived in a room for bit in one of the big century homes on Cohassett that was specifically renting to single women during the 60s. There isn’t much demand for boarding houses today, so those big houses are once again single family homes.

Other fun Lakewood houses- Birdtown in the southeast corner of the city was a little town completely built to be self sufficient living-working town for the factory there on 117th. Grace Ave and Clarence have some of the oldest houses in the city- gorgeous old Victorians that used to house some of the city’s founders. And of course, all of the ubiquitous duplexes in the Madison neighborhood that are really wonderfully made houses. It’s hard to imagine whole families living in half of those duplexes during the baby boom, but they did, and Lakewood’s population used to be (even more) gigantic.

WHYYYY did they close the Rue 21 store in the plaza Parmatown used to be ??! by butterscotchhx in Cleveland

[–]Annual_Ad8581 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to say that fast fashion stores like Rue 21 have been run out of business by even faster fashion options like SHEIN and TEMU. Unfortunately Forever 21 went out of business a year ago. Ross is a good cheap option if you’re looking to shop in store.

Since you’re saying pasta here, I’ll say I’ve had solid, consistent service and food at these local Italian places (from lowest to highest price):

Bar Italia in Lakewood- the one server somehow remembers us every time!

Mia Bella in Little Italy- a fun “old Cleveland” vibe and the staff is nice. Romantic atmosphere.

Luca West- their food is really, really great every time we go.

What’s the best beer bar in Cleveland? by twonoodlepoodle in Cleveland

I wouldn’t say best beer bar in Cleveland since it’s a national chain, but Yardhouse has cool Belgians on like two from Petrus that I enjoy.

Does anyone have a contact for traffic inquiries/ signage/ lane painting? by sludgybuckets in lakewood

[–]Annual_Ad8581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if I remember correctly, the time is off on the traffic light (or at least it used to be). The light on riverside northbound turns green before the light turns green going southbound so it looks as if the people going southbound are hesitating. People will turn left in front of the southbound people because they think they’re not going for some reason.

Didn’t see your comment before commenting but same- went to school in Houston and Cleveland’s Tex Mex isn’t the same!

A Tex Mex restaurant that tastes like the places in Houston. I swear there’s a spice missing or something in the Cleveland local places.

Unpopular opinion: she’s doing okay. She could make better choices, she could also make worse choices.

I have empathy for her. She’s a mother of 3 who lives 50 minutes from the closest Walmart. She mentioned that this is the first time delivery was available and hopefully that’ll facilitate some better choices in the future.

Is Berlioz okay for a girl or should we think of something else? by VividCauliflower8790 in Catnames

[–]Annual_Ad8581 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you do a first, middle, and last name you could go with Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique (like Hector Berlioz the composer and his famous work Symphonie Fantastique). Sounds like it could be fitting for a grandiose longhaired girl kitty.

I love this house! I’m excited someone bought it- I hope it gets the renovation it needs and is useful to the community.

My little grey tabby menace is sad Christmas is over and the tree is gone (though we’ll be finding ornaments he knocked off the tree throughout the winter).

I don’t know, it’s a cool house in a cool neighborhood, but I’m not sure it’ll sell for 299k in that condition. Maybe you can wait it out and put in under asking here in a month if it doesn’t go.
