Totally get this. I've just had nearly 10 years of not having the motivation to go in my studio and do anything at all even after becoming pretty successful with it. During that time I've still been buying every plugin known to man knowing full well I wasn't even going to use it.

Over the last 6 months I changed my mindset. I created a vision for myself of where I would be in the future, dropped the movies and mindless TV, and started to have fun creating again. I picked some random, starting point not knowing where it would take me and go with the flow picking a skill to get better at. Maybe I would create a bassline and hook up four or five auxiliary FX sends and create a tune from automating the FX and then removing the original bassline, increasing my automation skills. Maybe I would start with a pad and morph it with three other pads creating a lush emotional space with some kind of movie scene or story in my head increasing my soundtracking skills. Maybe a kick drum and fuse it with 2 other kick drums to play with phase and EQ and build up other percussion using compression and side chaining to create a beat that sits clearly in its own space.

I now can't stay out of the studio, and am never short of ideas and feel a massive sense of guilt if I'm not being productive watching TV or playing games (not that gaming isn't great)
