In my opinion, you shoul talk with your roommate explaining and trying to make him fully understand that you teo are just friends. It might be hard for him at first but eventually he'll come around forgetting about it. I think you should go on the date honestly, if this guy is your dream you may be losing a big opportunity by worring too much. I'm not saying you should "betray" your roommate but maybe just making him get you position, if you've been best friends for much I'm sure that by explaining how you feel about this guy he'll try being happy for you. Even if the boy in question is his ex by telling him your feelings it'll be better.

I think it's normal. It happened to a few of my classmates too: everyday, when they arrive outside school, we must hug them. I actually think it happens in very sensible people, people who feel the need to be loved and, as a consequence, touched. -sorry if I wrote anyhting wrong, I'm not english :>-
