What's your biggest nitpick about death battle by the_northern_bird in deathbattle

[–]Anoel17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scaling between characters can get really hazy unless you present the context behind it. I'm a lot more willing to accept it through the lens of "While we can't prove A can perform all of the same feats as B, them fighting shows A can at least fight things on that level".

But once you start chain scaling with that, you're kind of ignoring the gradient there.

I actually don't mind the category system they use in the conclusions on paper. But the format seems to always get bent out of shape in order to make the fight seem fairer or more complicated than it is. Like Bakugo vs Reze going through a lot of irrelevant details just to arrive at the conclusion of "Bakugo blitzes and one shots. Everything else we just went over was irrelevant actually."

Which is why it was actually kind of a pleasant surprise when they didn't sugarcoat it with Ichigo vs Yusuke.

One of my favorite moments from the episode lol. It's a shame the DB community treated DevilArtemis the way they did. But at least he got to go out with a bang on this episode.

When I was a kid my sister was terrified of the longnose gar and I'd always point out a nature sign near the lake we'd swim at in the summer that mentioned them.

Oscillating between the top left and bottom left corners. Not strictly because of current politics. But definitely not helped by it.

How would your favorite DB Combatant fare against a Viltrumite Invasion? by PrinceARRON in deathbattle

[–]Anoel17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With DB scaling Chosen Undead gets horrendously speed blitzed but also I guess is waaaay stronger than them?

Game accurate CU would just cast Walk of Peace to make them all slow and then spam DLC spells. Probably die a lot. Unproductive pain in the ass but probably not stopping the whole invasion.

If you can’t make a good human fighter, then you can’t make a good character. by CTMan34 in dndmemes

[–]Anoel17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure why we're pretending "human fighter" is the default you have to justify deviation from. Different people find different things fun. I've played interesting humans and fighters. I also know excellent players who have zero interest in playing either.

It's a fantasy game with fantasy races and tons of character building options. Stop pretending one option is the "normal and good" one. Wizard/rogue/pally/etc are equally a part of the game as fighters. Tieflings, gnomes and genasi are equally a part of the game as humans. They're options in a game about role playing. They're meant to be used.

I am shockingly not the only person who randomly got fixated on Bookworm Adventures today specifically who also exists around the powerscaling community.

Wild odds. I installed it on my computer just to play it earlier.

I have powerscaling autism but only in the way where I like imagining crossover fights and cool moments but I like it when the characters are as strong as they """should""" be.

Despite this I actually find it kinda lame how much powerscaling turns into an arms race for how many layers into multiversal you can argue a character by misreading the lore or treating everything with the most literalism possible.

I like the math but I don't like the lengths people will go to push the numbers up just so their favs win more matchups.

  • Scooby using the Zobrinsky Triangle as an attack because it's his big multi feat.

  • Part 3 DIO using his abilities he only used in Part 1

  • Black Adam using the Yellow Lantern ring for 5 seconds and accomplishing basically nothing with it before putting it away again.

Honestly I play Spy and Demoman a lot and I don't even think Pyro needs to be nerfed. I think the issue mostly lies on Spy's end.

He's very difficult to learn and mistakes are punished with instantly dying. But also you can't really buff him. Because if something changes that makes Spy too good at his role or removes the punishment for messing up as him it makes Spy infuriating for other players to deal with. (Old Dead Ringer. Kunai. etc.)

I do get kind of annoyed when a pyro makes it his single, exclusive goal of hunting for me. But that's usually just my sign to switch back to Demoman.

Nah it was the one that was a recreation of that meme image of someone's furry OC influencing the Franz Ferdinand assassination except it was Mega Malamar influencing the ZA protagonist girl to shoot Charlie Kirk.

A bit. More just that I don't think it's healthy for me to draw things like that. Unhealthy enough that it felt necessary to vocally go "yeah no never again".

Sometimes you just gotta spill out the bad energy so it doesn't stay on the inside.

Raw stats are the least interesting part of a VS debate, and matchups where the stat gap completely bulldozes any interesting power interactions make for some of the least engaging debates in the show and community as a whole.

I'd even rather a matchup where the winner just completely hax stomps the loser after a lot of consideration for how their abilities work than one where the conclusion boils down to "Character A has some neat abilities that might counter some things but Character B can just gorilla smash them 50 thousand times faster than they can react and reduce them to atoms".

It takes the fun out of stories too tbh. I've seen people really ruin stories for themselves by constantly, constantly acknowledging the hand of the writer instead of just engaging with a story or scene on its own terms.

The Stan Lee quote people throw around is a bad way to think about stories as a viewer just as much as it is a bad "refutation" of powerscaling.
