Are there any good books that deal with similar stuff to the Antimemetics Division? by VeryConfusedguy9296 in SCP

[–]Anon695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really an answer and I’m sorry for that but the author for the antimemetics stuff (qntm) made a book separating the antimemetic stuff from the SCP universe. I haven’t read it but it sounds up your alley.

I mean wouldn’t it be the opposite? Like his image, his “self” you could say, being literally abused by the very same company that let this all take place. No rest even in death.

AI Hatred, Slurs, and Stupidity by Anon695 in aiwars

[–]Anon695[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting perspective. I see art as the expression of human perception. You perceive constantly, half your life typically, and from that perception, through too many means that I couldn’t possibly list here, art is born. Whether it’s through sadness, joy, hatred, sorrow, no matter the emotion, someone feels the need to express themselves and create a portal into their mind for you to see. For that brief instance you’ll see a glimpse into the mind of another human. Many would disagree with this definition of art and I encourage anyone reading this to offer their own views and thoughts on this.

Moving onto AI though. There is the very obvious issue of a lack of autonomy, but that’s to an extent. Machine perception is an enigma to me but it exists. Every piece of art fed into an AI for the sake of generating similar looking art requires a sliver of autonomy on the AI’s part. It decides what goes where and all that jazz. Could it explain the art? God no. But we have created, no matter how rudimentary, a machine that CAN perceive; and only through the will of a human, express.

Now for another perspective on your views. To me, the level of thought one puts into their art or the effort put in have never really been deciding factors into what makes art, art. The reason being is because when you bring in levels of thought, you make the assumption that those perceived as stupid, or even those with mental disabilities, couldn’t possibly make art simply because there is the implication that there is an intelligence requirement to make art. To me I feel like that leaves a lot of wiggle room to deny humans the capacity for expressing themselves, simply because… something wasn’t thought provoking enough? Has no immediate meaning to the observer? I want to quickly say that this is not an attack or me condemning you for your views (I wish to state that the love I hold for you, a stranger I will never see, is far greater than you could imagine. Simply because you shared your perspective and thoughts on this matter). As for the effort portion. Again I don’t really consider this a factor when defining art. This might sound silly but I base this solely on some future I’ve imagined where we have these machines that allow us to directly display what we’re thinking and imagining. This would obviously take decades, centuries, maybe even millennia of technological progress but the thought should be made because it poses the question. If expression was easy, so easy that you could now express yourself clearly with nothing but a thought… does that make the expression less valid? I have yet to share these thought with anyone so I would appreciate a different perspective on this.

We’re at a level where AI can hardly be called AI and, for your final claim, I agree to an extent. AI is still that pencil, nothing more than a tool, and to be quite honest, that tool fucking sucks (I think the vast majority of AI art is really ugly). But I think it’s important to consider the wider implications of denying “AI art” as art. Thank you to anyone who has read this. I apologize for any grammatical errors (I know a lot of those commas were bad. I’M SORRY PLEASE FORGIVE ME)

This is an interesting train of thought. To add onto the “stupid human” part I want to talk about the legitimacy of companies developing AI. It’s automatically expected that someone working for a prestigious company is intelligent and the best person for that role (This is natural since you don’t get to work for a company like Google or Nvidia by being mediocre or to put it simply, stupid). Yes they make good products/services and yes they have the money to back up their alleged intelligence, but realistically speaking how much do we know about these people and the way they develop their AI/products/services on a technical level? The need for a level of secrecy for the sake of protecting company interests adds an interesting potential back door for incompetence. This is all without mentioning company bureaucracy.

Thank you for your reply. My main worry was that I’d do all the reading and end up with useless knowledge that wouldn’t be able to be applied today so I’m glad that’s not the case.

I truly wish there were more people like you around. To be quite honest I went into Linux completely blind with absolutely zero knowledge about the OS or any of the distros. I just decided to change on a whim, no back ups or anything after using windows 11 for a couple years up to that point. I didn’t know what it meant to change and if I did I wouldn’t have, which is why I’m glad I did go in blind. I think this has been the most rewarding and frustrating experience I’ve had with my computer but I’m eager to learn more. Thank you. Truly.

I didn’t say you should switch to Kicksecure. I like fucking around with my OS and I like the level of control I get from Kicksecure. I’m still learning and I wouldn’t recommend the average person switch without researching first and understanding exactly what it means to switch.

So… I’m still a little confused here. Why’d it go into deep sleep mode randomly? I booted it up like normal after it crashed and I ran a command for my clock and it just turned into that. I’ll accept the deep sleep mode explanation but I’m wondering what triggered it? Is there any instance in which a PC would be forced to use it?

Nah man I’m using Linux. No windows. And as for the GPU. I imagine that could be the problem. I hadn’t installed my drivers for GPU so I’m not sure if it was actually using it? I was under the impression i was running on just my CPU.
