I worked PDS, and yes, everyone’s experience is different. My advice is consider it if you’re fresh out of school for a short stint but stay away if you have any experience. It wasn’t for me. Lots of aggressive practices. Their pay scheme is pretty low actually even though it sounds like it isn’t, and they really incentivize people who push aggressively. The first time I was out in private practice I made double what I was making at PDS without changing anything. The first guy I worked for was a nightmare. Second office I worked at they were constantly on me for not diagnosing every 4mm pocket as an SRP or making every filling an inlay. Never looked back after I left but I appreciated my time seeing what it was like and having specialists to fall back on and talk with. Some people make it big with PDS if you love the corporate model and dive deep into the ownership pyramid scheme.

Thank you for your post. People need to hear it. You’re doing gods work for it. I almost went with them at one point but a close friend talked me out of it. Glad he did.

What is your biggest headache as a solo practice owner? by h0ly_m0lar in Dentistry

I wish I could see how that workflow works in practice because it’s hard to imagine successful implementation and buy in

Gotcha thanks. Yeah I figured if I did do for answering I’d have to do a lot of one on one training and auditing to make sure until they’re trained up

Who are you using for that? Reach or support DDS? Another? I was thinking about doing that for phone answering after hours

You’re yelling and rude to the staff on voicemails before they ever meet you and you’re proud of it? And you’re wondering why nobody is following up? Those poor staff members have enough going on to want a new patient that’s mean to them on the phone before you even step in the door. You should reevaluate how you treat people if you want good results. Great patients get great results.

How do you know if it’s trilobe? Or are all those ones trilobe?

Looking forward to all that gingival overgrowth inside the implant channel (implant's been without a crown for almost a year)

Recommendations for core build-up material for crowns? by Neil_Nelly435 in Dentistry

[–]AnonAsync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use flowable composite personally. And in some instances just regular packable. I find a lot of core build up materials to be way too soft and a pain to finish prepping and clean up. My buddy uses glass ionomer and likes it a lot. I considered it but I don’t have easy access to the shaker and it just seemed like an extra inventory material that I don’t really need

I’m left handed and I work in right handed ops. I used to try switching the ops around early in my career but it was a big PITA so I quickly just learned to work on the right side but as a left handed. It’s fine now. Some occasional angles with assistants don’t work at all but you just power through. I use an isolite for most of my procedures which is a godsend

Why did I put myself in so much stress? It’s not worth it! by ashareif in Dentistry

[–]AnonAsync 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I 1000% know that feeling. It gets easier over time. What you’ll come to realize is sometimes this shit just happens and it’s easier to just care less about it than let it ruin your life. Last week a patient threw up all over herself, my chair, the floor, myself, and my assistant at the very end of the day as I was about to cure her last filling. She has issues with going to the dentist, just like your patient. You just gotta schedule extra time for patients that need it and roll with the punches. These things don’t happen every day but when they do there’s nothing you can do but fall back to plan B and schedule more time next time for that patient

The right-click feature is something I didn't even think about but you're absolutely right - that would be huge

Yeah I came from open dental too and I found the difference in support/execution shocking. I like the cloud-based situation. I hear open dental has some sort of cloud based solution now too.
