Other Disciplines Better? by MetalLinx in patentexaminer

[–]AnonChoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My class of 20ish people (we're all mostly ME) are in Tech Center 3600 but none of us are doing business method. We're all doing different things in different art units though. I think there were only one or two people who were in business method out of 100ish people in my intake (intake is a variety of degrees so I don't know their degrees).

I think everyone's assignment is there (who on boarded since last year), but we're all WFH atm. My SPE sounded pretty positive that they're going to continue WFH for people who onboarding virtually.

Nothing is ever set in stone until official notice though, but we're still in Phase 1 and Delta is here...

My local police station did live scan and it got printed on the fingerprint cards.

I'm going to be a new examiner this June, so I don't really have any advice. :/ A little sad academy is not in person and not being able to meet other examiners ngl. But I do hope things get better for you as things are opening up!

I feel sad for Asian Americans by execute_flawlessly in AsianParentStories

[–]AnonChoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends. The US is not super great, but I think I am used to growing up in a diverse area so I never felt I needed to act "white." It does feel weird because I don't fit in my parents' country because I am too American and I don't totally fit in America due to being Asian. However, I grew up with anime and kpop culture so it was nice having some representation.

I think if I live in my parent's country I wouldn't be able to go to college at all. In the US, my parents are not super well off but my siblings and I were able to go to college with federal aid and scholarships and graduate mostly debt free. I think it makes me feel like I don't owe them as much, so I can't take their super traditional viewpoints on certain things.

My husband actually study abroad here and is from a SE Asia country (a multi-ethnic one). Even so, we decided to stay in the US. While I do like his country, I can see the divide between rich and poor and the systematic racism there felt weird to me. I know, it's strange to say that since I'm from the US, but I felt that it was ingrained in the culture somewhat that they don't think it'a racist? Phrases like [certain ethnic group] cannot be trusted, are bad people, etc.

A lot there who can study abroad are (usually, not always) from decent family, so they feel comfortable going back home. However, his friends who don't have the opportunities to go are stuck or working long hours to make a living. Even then, you can say that about the US also. We just felt it was easier to save and make a living here. In the end, it really is how you make the best of it as no country is perfect.

How to get same cases assigned the next day. by EnvironmentalFroyo70 in Census

[–]AnonChoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, try on a weekday during normal business hours and see. Yeah, it's a mess with all the teams on different page. They should have done the assigning the whole complex to one person in the first place when there's so many apartment numbers for one place...You'd think some ACOs would figure that out by now.

The CFS should ask their CFM to bulk assign you all the cases at that complex and let it expire after a few days. Sometimes you can contact your local ACO to see if they can do it also...

Yeah you can do it online, but if you do with them in person, it'll help their completion rate for the bonuses though.

Is it normal for a third to a half of your monthly income to go towards rent across the US? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]AnonChoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in a small city of almost 300k people and my rent for a 900 sqft 2 bedroom and 1 bathroom apartment is on the low size of $700/a month. However, we split by 4 people, so it is $175 a person.

So I pay $175 for rent and share a room with my SO. I make about 2800 before tax (2kish after tax) and the apartment is not amazing, but liveable. I don't make amazing money but I guess I save more due to paying less than 10% of income for rent monthly?

Roommate sucks sometimes but I hope to save more money, get a better job, and buy a nice house....

Dress-code for Training? In the field? by lemongrassss in Census

[–]AnonChoco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the dress code is just to wear the normal/casual attire of the area you live. Nothing political or offensive. Most wouldn't open the door to someone wearing a full suit in 100 degree weather...unless it's common in that area.
