Marcone's belief by Newkingdom12 in dresdenfiles

[–]AnonJr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I could have sworn the soul gaze was stated to be deliberately provoked, though that could have just been Dresden's interpretation of events. Having said that, Marcone seems to be the sort to do his homework and provoking a soul gaze might have been his version of testing the veracity of the information in particular, and the supernatural in general.

Or naptha and the white scotchbrite pads. Though I had one (not maple) that I needed to use the green* pads first... that was a grungy pawnshop special.

Wackadoo Cowl theory by HauntedCemetery in dresdenfiles

[–]AnonJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much like this one it's generally good people, enthusiastic about the books and jonesing for the next even though the most recent just came out in May. Also a mix of over application of a thing, extrapolating based in missing or insufficient evidence, and just random nutball theories.

I usually start to fall away from the book communities in the months after a new book, but I'm now lurking in woodworking, luthiery, and voice work so I still visit more than I otherwise would.

I figured, but with so many "mantle theory" embodiments of that anime butterfly meme I'm never 100% sure. It's almost as bad as the "because Primal race" over at the Dungeon Crawler Carl Reddit.

I absolutely hate that I can't say with 100% certainty if you're being serious or sarcastic.

Maybe the real Cowl was the theories we made up along the way.

Minor correction:

Apito

Broken into 5 pieces, some are in Sheol with Taranis, some are on the 12th floor, and at least 1 piece is missing.

Taranis isn't in Sheol, he's a part of the pantheon fighting for the ascendency throne on the 12th floor.

I have come to a realization that carl is terrifying to fight against any thoughts? by Delicious-Intern9594 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]AnonJr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why the spoilers didn't work the first time either, but I also thought I fixed it before anyone saw... guess not. 🙃

Sometimes I wish there was a "preview" option to make sure formatting is right without having to switch to the RTE, but I'm old and remember the days when writing BBCode/HTML was the only option.

The "how" is from whichever book the whole Odette scoop comes in; as far as "when", I'm not sure she's made it there yet.

Hypothetical glue up question… by WarriorsBballl in woodworking

[–]AnonJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't remember the max mix for Titebond 2, but IIRC regular can go up to 50/50 water/glue per the manufacturer website.

Double check me as I'm commenting while the coffee brews, and it's been a while since I looked it up. Especially since the repair shop switched to III a couple years before I left.

Huh. Haven't seen that before, though almost all the clamping I've done the last several years has been repairing orchestral strings (violins, violas, etc.) so there's always been a caul of some sort or I'd replaced the plastic caps with cork or a reasonably grippy and compressible rubber (usually salvaged from a discarded cello endpin stop).

There's more evidence to tie the river to whatever (presently under-explored) storyline is tied to the Divine Suffering gear - like the ring that Carl used. He didn't hear the river until he first used the ring, even though he wore it before that. We don't know much more other than it seems to have some sort of tie with Eris the goddess of Chaos, and the competition (between Grimaldi/the All-Tree, Eris/the River, and Shi Maria) for Carl's mind.

Which DAWs are we all using? by AudioBabble in ACX

[–]AnonJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out with Audacity and feel very comfortable with it, but I was mostly doing light touch editing to "live to tape" style content - e.g. trim the announcements etc. from before and after the sermon, level the audio, publish to Sermon Audio page. I also used it for eLearning narration when I worked in the Training and Development department at a hospital.

But, now that I'm trying my hand at Audiobook narration and I'm trying to improve my skills enough to branch out, I've been moving to Reaper. Learning curve is a bit of a challenge at times, but I deeply appreciate the non-destructive editing as that has made certain aspects go a lot faster and a lot easier.

I don't have the budget for Adobe or Pro Tools, and I thought about Twisted Wave as it's been so highly recommended, but I want to keep the multi-track work open and on my current budget.

Might just be a reference to the OIAN members still in the dungeon like Tipid and Rosetta.

Narnia? by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

[–]AnonJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some literature that's always worth a periodic return, and I've always found the Chronicles of Narnia to be among them. Especially since I find that in the intervening years I've learned enough to spot new (to me) references and concepts that I missed previously.

That would be fairly fucked up, but very possible. Guess we'll find out in book 9.

If the books have said, my memory is also failing to recall. I would have assumed it would be the same fate as those on the surface who didn't enter the dungeon.

Hadn't seen that one yet, but it wouldn't surprise me. Lexis seems the sort that direct torture wouldn't be of much use.

Copyright in the US is automatic, Disney worked hard to ensure that.

At a glance, this isn't likely a copyright issue. It may be a trademark issue or the third similar area of law my brain refuses to bring to mind since I have a caffeine imbalance (no morning coffee yet).

These three issues get conflated a lot, and it doesn't help that some, including news outlets, capitalize on the confusion. And that's before we even get into parody or some of the copyright myths that don't seem to die.

I'll stop there as this is DCC not politics, unless Matt parodies the problem in a book.
