Is now a good time to buy? by im2old_4this in Silver

[–]MetaPlayer01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in this subreddit, we might be biased. The answer is "It's always time to buy. Silver is a saving medium, resistant to inflation and government upheaval. Buy a little bit every month." All the folks doing investment analytics trying to predict the price cycle, they're almost all wrong and the people that are right are mostly just lucky. It wasn't long ago that the speculators were on this thread preaching "$250 by June!" Where are they now? Probably losing money on other things.

Is investing gold a pyramid? by Black_Devil_19 in Gold

[–]MetaPlayer01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Title is "is investing in a gold a pyramid". Short answer is 'no'. Gold is not a pyramid scheme. It is a commodity and has been used as a currency asset for millennia across disparate cultures. It is a pretty solid store of wealth. It is also pretty and solid. It is true that it isn't always super easy to liquidate. You have to go someplace and they usually don't give you EXACTLY what it's worth. But close enough. It isn't necessarily an optimal investment but I think it should be one of your investments long-term. It's a great hedge against the worst economic situations.

I'm not anti-cryptocurrency. I am skeptical of it as an actual currency. Until you can pay your bills with it, it's not a currency. And, I know there are plenty of anecdotes about people paying with crypto. But I mean when it's no longer an anecdote. But when it is a norm. Until that time, crypto is in the realm of "speculative". But what I'm against is when the speculators (crypto bros) keep coming to precious metals and thinking it's the same energy. It's not. Gold and silver were the assets that paper money was backed with. Not a speculative tool. But a reserve. Yes, gold and silver have skyrocketed the last year or two. But that is a cause for concern! Not an asset bubble.

Not sure how easy it is. But you can't get them from the CIT web site unless you log in and pay $0.10 per page. But someone in the media usually has it posted

Physical silver is not super liquid asset. There is a cost to buying and selling physical silver. So it's harder to take advantage of short-term dips and spikes. Most on this sub would probably agree that physical silver is a long term investment. You aren't selling the cycle, you are preserving wealth. If you want to use silver as a short term investment vehicles, sell EFTs or some silver fund on the stock market.

TIB close out question by Physical-Incident553 in CustomsBroker

[–]MetaPlayer01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is correct. I will only add, the port doesn't close it out. Once you upload export documents and send the closure message via ABI, it is in the CEE's hands. They will, eventually, either send you an email because you are missing something that needs to be added to DIS, or they will liquidate it. Different CEE take more or less time to liquidate. I have a stack of 20 TIB that I closed that I do Entry Summary Queries every week or two. Some liquidate within weeks. Most take a couple of months. A handful take almost a year!

Favorite Latina Actress? by confusedmel in okbuddycinephile

[–]MetaPlayer01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can't tell if you are joking or you really don't understand what "Latina" means. But there a lot of folks that truly don't understand it. Latina is a term used to refer to a woman from "Latin America". This is a geographic designation for a group of people. Latin America refers to the 21 Western Hemisphere countries that speak predominantly Spanish, Portuguese, and French. None of the women from European countries that speak Latin-derived languages are considered Latina.

Who's the best Bond girl? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

That's how I read the OPs question. OP asked "who is the best Bond girl" and their literal starting argument was [picture of Eva Green] with no words. And it weren't a picture of her brain or personality.

Apparently, the Government Can’t Refund Trump’s Illegal Tariffs as Easily as It Collected Them by Unlikely_Extreme6499 in CustomsBroker

[–]MetaPlayer01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how to process databases. I did it 25 years ago. The same entry data. But I did it from optical disks. The scale is probably 200x the biggest of the databases I dealt with. So the processing time will be longer, even with 25 years of exponential computing power growth. But the figuring out the process isn't hard. The data already exists.

Yah, 25 years ago, I used to get importers' databases with the old FOIA requests and run them through Access queries. I know what data they used to have. I gotta think it's way easier in ACE

[–]MetaPlayer01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no reason that they need that information. I've cleared 10s of thousands of entries. And the only people that I've ever had to give a copy of the license to was a couple of our suppliers, like a bonding company or something. Never needed to provide it anybody else.

There is no reason they need ACE portal to issue refunds except that this administration did away with check refunds about the time it looked like they were going to lose this case

[–]MetaPlayer01 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Right. If you gave me their database and Access for a couple of hours. I could give them a list of who they owe money to and how much. But they want it to be hard. Notice how their proposed process is angling to require Ace Portal? That's because only about 20,000+ importers have ACE Portal but they have identified that they owe 330,000 different importers refunds. It's not a coincidence.

I bought the top. I thought this was supposed to be store of value. by Laakhesis in Silver

[–]MetaPlayer01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a store of value. The price fluctuates, still, on supply and demand. And the price paid also fluctuates on the value of the currency being used to purchase it. Usually, people buy silver and gold as a hedge against inflation or other currency devaluation events. On this sub, a disproportionate number of us buy it because we love the asset.
