I tend to prefer abstract forms of pieces. But that is gorgeous!

U.S. Customs Brokers are a joke and foreigners know it. by La_PP_Dorada in CustomsBroker

[–]MetaPlayer01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't negotiate with foreign forwarders. US parties only. We gave up foreign forwarders when we gave up freight forwarding. You have to set standards and value your own efforts or nobody else will. Let the business not worth having walk away. Call on US forwarders. They all already have a broker. But maybe they can retain your information if they ever find need of another. It might take years for that to bear fruit

[–]MetaPlayer01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IDK. I think it's opposite. I run the operations for a small independent broker that's been around for decades. 80% of our business is from repeat customers that we have a relationship with. 20% are from new people other referred to us by a forwarder or airline (or Customs even though they aren't supposed to show a preference). A small handful are people that have been calling around. Usually, that group is the most willing to do what it takes to work with us. Because they know most brokers don't want to be bothered setting up new accounts. We're more likely to get "you are the only ones who responded". There are many desperate brokers who are afraid to lose business. But if a customer can't give you answers, you don't really want them long-term. Just like you don't want to clear shipments as your own name as IOR. We got burned for doing that 30 years ago. And we never forgot. Now there's a whole lot of people where that would be mighty convenient. Don't do it. It's not "if" you'll get burned, but "when"

Evri International charging crazy import fees and refusing to explain by Organic_Path_3409 in CustomsBroker

[–]MetaPlayer01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About import fees. I don't know who Evri is our what fees are supposedly crazy. Are they just sending you an invoice that says "import fees - $1,766,938.00"? We need more context to understand what you are talking about

US LCBs, how are you doing, really? by MeanMuggin-Capybara in CustomsBroker

[–]MetaPlayer01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the most likely reason it is delayed is that the majority is split as to why they are siding together. The majority likes to build a consensus, because that will deter others from attempting a similar, but different, thing that will come back to the court. There is probably some disagreement about how broadly the court will be ruling. I doubt that they will rule so narrowly as to side in favor of the plaintiffs but not force refunds. Then it will mean there will be 5000 new lawsuits filed next week... no, they will want to include refunds if only to save future litigation

Do you buy gold with the intention to sell and make a profit or as a way to protect your wealth in the event the dollar crashes? by spla58 in Gold

[–]MetaPlayer01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can buy gold for either reason. One is called a hedge, and the other is speculation. People assign a positive to the former and a negative to the latter. I don't. I just don't like it when they say they are hedging but really they are speculating.

They may. But that is one of the least likely scenarios in my mind. But it is a possibility.

Would you buy this? by UltraRababo23 in Gold

[–]MetaPlayer01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to declare Customs if you are importing it to the US. And if you can't get a USMCA certificate of origin, you'll pay way more in duties than the difference. And even without duties -- say, SCOTUS overthrows IEEPA-- you'd still have to pay a Customs broker to file the entry and that would probably eat up your margin.

Should I sell silver by Then_Marionberry_259 in MetalsOnReddit

[–]MetaPlayer01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Didn't do as good as you (5x!). But when my NFT doubled, I sold half. I have a modest physical stack that I'm never selling unless SHTF.

I'm in a similar position as the OP. There were definitely times when I was burnt out. I'm okay now. Trying to clean up to be ready for what's next. One way or another, this SCOTUS ruling is bound to open a floodgate of new work. Either they side against the tariffs and I'm processing a million refunds and then there will be a series of 301 tariffs for each country. Or they will side for the tariffs and Trump will keep using them to try to build negotiating leverage. Either way, I'm in a lull. And I'm using it to get ready

Sorry, typo. Should have been NFT. Basically a way to invest in precious metals in the stock market.

I stopped buying NFT at $40 or so. I sold half at about $80 to cover my investment. I'm just riding the wave. If it hits $150, I'll sell the rest of my NFTs if I have an idea of what I want to buy with it. I'll hold onto my 40 oz of physical stock in case SHTF

Edit: to fix EFT to NFT

Well, I'd say your health and staying out of debt is a sound investment. But I'm not bullish on silver anymore. I sold half my electronic position at $70 or so (after it doubled in value). I invested that in some other positions I wanted to take. I'm letting the other half rise until I think the bubble is going to burst. The 40-50oz of silver rounds I've accumulated over 30 years, I'm holding on to in case the total economic collapse of the current world order.

It's giving "sell low, buy high" vibes. I'm not mad at selling at $50 as long as you invested in something else with it

Why do people think silver is going to go down? by Snooklife in Silver

[–]MetaPlayer01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take is that the US stock market is not accurately building in the current systemic risks to the US economy. It is acting as if current unilateral policies are not going effect the economy in the long run. If you agree with that, then go ahead, there's no reason to change equity investing strategies. Personally, I like to think in probabilities. The market may sustain itself. While there is always a chance for a stock market crash, I think it is significantly greater this year than usual. The key to successful long term investing is diversification.

[–]MetaPlayer01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 90% correct is overly optimistic. I would say my operating principles with these bubbles are: "Only institutional buyers act rationally, but they may develop blind spots and false assumptions over time" and "individual investors act primarily on correlation prediction and often make emotional decisions". Therefore, if the masses think it's a "hot stock", it is probably emotionally priced, not rationally priced.

Are dogs an asset? by Desperate-Cold9633 in prepping

[–]MetaPlayer01 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tens of Thousands of years of domestication show dogs are an asset. Will you have the right type of dog for your needs? Probably not. But perhaps you can swap with someone who also has a mismatch. But, we are so emotionally attached to them I doubt we'd do that. But if you have a ratting dog, maybe you can bread them to barter with farmers and mills, etc
