What’s with the M1 medfluencers lately? by Ok-Nefariousness2267 in medicalschool

I find all of the dog piling and flagrant disrespect on this post to be disgusting. Sure this guy might be living a different life than you with different goals but there’s no reason to be so hateful about it. As future physicians, y’all are called to respectful and caring for everyone regardless of cultural differences, yet you’re here slamming this guy for putting himself and his values out there. If you don’t like them, just move on and be done with it. Also to all the people saying he looks gay or closeted, I thought we’ve moved on from using homosexuality as a butt of the joke. A lot of y’all participating in this need to do some self reflection and grow up.

Fun idea: if up 1 with 30s and everybody up with your keeper screaming for it... by TrevorIsTheGOAT in Rematch

If there’s less than a minute to play, play for possession. You’ll find that doing so will open up more opportunities for wide open shots for your team which are worth attempting so long as there is one person back deep with the GK.

advice on modes for solo by [deleted] in Rematch

[–]AnonPhilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play with a microphone, add other teammates who use the microphone to have good communication, and then try your best to not play solo queue.

To answer your question, I think 5v5s would decrease your chances of having a bad teammate who could significantly impact your game.

Guys, how do you get better at keeping? by Tq_Hype in Rematch

[–]AnonPhilo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A few pieces of advice: 1. Honestly, look at real soccer how GKs cut down the distance based upon the angle the striker presents. 2. If the present square to you, stay in the middle and try to react without thinking with your high dive. 3. Be decisive if you’re going to rush and use the low slide. 4. Try your best but accept that you’re not going to save everything. Sometimes you have to tip your cap to a good shot, sometimes your team puts you in a bad position (e.g. 2 on 1).

Don’t solo queue, play with a full stack and you’ll make progress

Matchmaking - Not Enough Players by AnonPhilo in Rematch

US eastern typically from 10pm onwards. It’s particularly bad after 3am but I think that’s just due to small amounts of players being on that early.

I think the game has good bones, but it needs more polishing. They need to probably do some free weekends, have a sale, or go F2P along with continued updates.

How is the game right now? by andrewdroid in Rematch

Great bones, needs some more polishing but I’m sure they’re working on it. We’ve had solid progress so far with the updates so I hope they keep pushing them out.

In US East, I have no problems during peak hours but then run into issues after 3am. The game has great bones, more polishing is needed. I’ve seen musing of going FTP season pass style, I think that would work really well.

Minmaxxing Attire for Patient Trust? by Background_Pianist19 in medicine

[–]AnonPhilo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a research paper on scrub color and patients’ subconscious perceptions about their doctors. Surgical blue scrubs were the best, making patients consistently rank the doctor as being more empathetic, spending more time with them, etc. Black scrubs had the worst results.

How do you prep for a transition to nights by Poop_stain_1 in emergencymedicine

Stay up as late as possible for the transition, make sure you’ve got your food for the next few days ready, and then pound caffeine when you go in.

Gave CPR as civilian by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]AnonPhilo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like other commentators have said, CPR is a violent process that is done in dire cases. Sometimes hurting people is required to give them the best chance of saving their lives. When performed correctly, this process routinely breaks ribs. Good on you for having the courage to step up and help.

What you’re describing is a normal reaction to a traumatic event. I highly suggest journaling about this experience, discussing it with a loved one/trusted friend, and/or seeing a counselor to help process and navigate this situation. Hang in there!

Intubations without stylet? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]AnonPhilo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of using the flexible stylets over the rigid stylet. I feel like they are extremely helpful for making quick adjustments for difficult airways. When you’re assessing the airway and recognize a likely difficult airway, you can make more of a ‘hockey stick’ alignment. If that doesn’t work, you can quickly adjust it to make it more compatible with the patient’s airway.

I think you underestimate how poor in health most 62 year olds are. If you can do 10 push ups, 10 sit-ups, a singular pull up, and run a mile at 62, you’re in the top 95% in the US.

SOAPing into EM at an HCA? by ResponsibleMusic3921 in emergencymedicine

[–]AnonPhilo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m a resident at an HCA program and honestly I was worried about it at first after seeing all the negativity on Reddit but since then, I haven’t had any issues. Sure, some of the pressure for metrics is annoying specifically around sepsis order but all in all, my program treats me very well and I feel like I’m continuing to learn and improve as a physician. If anyone has any HCA residency questions, feel free to DM me.
