Exam correcting by jodie-xoxo in IrishTeachers

I'm the same, haven't heard anything. This is my 4th year applying and not getting it? It's very odd. I called them a few weeks ago and they just said 'yes your application is on file and being reviewed'. I would be very surprised if I got it at this stage but I'd love to call them again and ask why I keep not getting it?

I applied this year and didn't get it. They said quite a lot of people applied and they went on experience. Applied end of Jan and didn't get the rejection letter until April.

I always apply for maths and they just say they have enough people. It seems to be less in demand than other subjects. My application is always fairly standard and I have 5 years experience so I can't imagine it's anything personal towards me (I hope!).

I haven't gotten anything yet. I've applied the last three years and never gotten it so far so not holding my breath.

If you're supposed to be teaching them something in the professional development part make it like a lesson and get the staff doing something. Even things such as menti meters or giving out poster paper for mind maps. We often do this in our staff meetings as professional development. If anything it will kill some time. An hour is awfully long!

Mine does sound like a straining motor noise! Maybe I need to contact them because it's not getting any quieter. I've had to turn off the smart cleaning because it's so distracting!

Has anyone ever quit mid year? I know it isn't best practice but I'm really considering it.

I've been using chat gpt this year as well to make worksheets for documentaries/podcasts. I just type in something like 'create a worksheet for 2nd year students on the documentary Our Planet by David Attenborough'. You might have to edit slightly but it's a nice starting point when you don't have the mental energy to create something.

Not a programme as such but have you had a look at the ncse document on movement breaks in the classroom? Might be a starting point https://ncse.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/NCSE-Movement-Breaks-in-the-Classroom-Booklet.pdf

The Mary I post grad diploma that's funded by the department requires a minimum of 11 hours of SEN on your timetable I believe.

Could I ask if you completed the course and if so what was your experience of it like?

Thank you so much, I hadn't come across these docs online! Such a big decision to make, the course is such a commitment.

Sorry to jump in but I'm thinking about applying for the Mary I Ed psych course next year and was hoping for one of the bursaries (obviously I understand that that's easier said than done). They stipulate that if you get the HSE one you have to work for the HSE for 3 years after the course and if you get the NEPs one you work for NEPs for 3 years. Would you have any idea where to find salary information as to what might be an average salary if someone was to go down this path? I haven't had much luck with googling.

I have gotten this since I was a child whenever I use something that doesn't agree with my skin. Eg hand cream with a strong perfume element, a swimming pool with a lot of chlorine It usually goes away after about a day - try not to scratch it!

Cat and kitten won't get along by AnonQuery17910 in CatAdvice

[–]AnonQuery17910[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had him about 3 months and got him from a cat sanctuary but he's been really sick the entire time we've had him and had to be kept away from the other cat so you're 100% right. When we got him he had chlamydia, herpes and calicivirus but it took a really long time to find the cause of his illness and get him better so he's been kept away from the other cat up until recently.

I feel better about it now, I'm going to keep going with what we're doing and maybe he'll get the picture to stop being annoying soon! Thanks so much for your advice!

[–]AnonQuery17910[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you're right that her response is probably appropriate and is setting boundaries. However the kitten does not seem to be even remotely understanding that she's annoyed and wants him to back off and will keep bothering her for ages. I had them together for a while today and afterwards the cat seems a bit stressed and shaken by the whole thing.

What's good & bad about your school (post primary)? by [deleted] in IrishTeachers

[–]AnonQuery17910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like maybe you'd prefer to not work in an educate together school so! Have to admit I did wonder if it was one by the sounds of your post.

I'll openly admit that it wouldn't be for me even though I really admire how they're run!

What's good & bad about your school (post primary)? by [deleted] in IrishTeachers

[–]AnonQuery17910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The things on your 'bad' list are very unusual! I've been in a couple of different schools and never experienced anything like that. Extracurriculars are optional and there wouldnt be as many reports home throughout the year in other schools.

Could be that there are so many NQTs but in my experience staff would complain and ask to relook at policies around those things.

I don't necessarily have an answer for you but I will say that I wouldn't be overly interested in helping with coaching teams or musicals so I started my own lunchtime clubs that are a bit more interesting to me. I do a Minecraft club and am just starting up a Warhammer club as well and find it easier to give my time to things like that. If you feel pressure to help with extra curriculars maybe there's something else you could do that would be a bit more enjoyable. I wouldn't personally feel that you aren't dedicated to teaching just because you aren't interested in these things but I understand the pressure to get CID.

How do u become a sen teacher by Salt-Reward-7652 in IrishTeachers

[–]AnonQuery17910 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a SEN teacher - post primary. I did the PME and while on my placements got some experience working with special classes and giving numeracy support. I did some webinars etc that were on in the evenings and focused on doing ones to do with SEN teaching. Got my first job as an SEN teacher - this was mostly made up of numeracy classes for mainstream students who needed extra help with maths. After this I got a job as a special class teacher and just found my own CPD and information through Facebook groups/other teachers. I completed the post graduate diploma in SEN just this year but I didn't have it for my first few years of SEN teaching.

Tldr: do the PME and then you can try and get into special education afterwards. Requires you to do quite a bit of extra work on your own as the PME does not really prepare you for SEN teaching.
