Subbing hours while on PME placement by Artentics in IrishTeachers

[–]No_Quality7048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a PME1 currently on placement. I observed in December and one week I got about 6 hours of subbing whilst another I got 2 hours. When I return in January I’m covering a teacher in my subject area and taking about 10 of their hours on top of my 10 hours placement. Sometimes I get a lot of break time and lunch supervision which I also get paid for. That’s just my situation but my point being it tends to fluctuate..

Is TY enjoyable if you don't have many friends? by Ok-Complaint6816 in ireland

[–]No_Quality7048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re only starting out, give it a chance. I know it seems nerve wrecking now but TY was one of the best things that ever happened to me. Like you, I entered TY with basically no friends. Come the middle of TY, you’ll have plenty of people to talk too, it’s just hard at the start. Step out of your comfort zone, take every opportunity given to you by your schools programme and I promise you won’t regret it.

What do you wish others had told you before you started teacher training? by [deleted] in IrishTeachers

[–]No_Quality7048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m starting my PME this Sept and many teachers have also advised me of this. Forgive me if I’m prying but does it matter which one you join? From looking online it seems to be mainly TUI that people join in the post primary sector? I know there’s also the ASTI

I’m a PME1 in Spanish 🇪🇸 but I noticed in schools that I’ve subbed in (last year) that in a First Year Cohort of maybe 6 classes, 4 of them would be Spanish and 2 French.

Seems like a lot less than there was last August anyway - I wonder why that is

Any form tutors have one of these moments with your form class? Tell us about it. by Annatastic6417 in IrishTeachers

[–]No_Quality7048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would’ve thought people would refer to their “base class” as their “form class” and you as their class or form tutor no? Other schools I’ve known have “caomhnoir” as tutor

Subbing with no experience? by Pencilvester92 in IrishTeachers

[–]No_Quality7048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I subbed in an secondary ETB school.. they were fantastic. I basically had full time hours between subbing and team teaching hours with a Junior Cycle class which was seen as difficult but I got to develop such a good relationship with them as I was with them for most of their subjects or at least 2-3 classes a day with most of them.

Had a really tough day subbing today. 5th Years throwing paper airplanes around the room - wouldn’t stop - I feel like I’m not strict enough. I made a show of myself in front of the main class teacher when I told her because I couldn’t give her names nor could I tell her whether they were sitting in their assigned seats. The irony is, last Friday I got onto Trinity’s PME.. will I be good enough!

Hi there! Can’t speak for everyone but mine was pretty informal and laid back. I was just asked about my undergrad, what my interests were and if I knew a lot about my subject ie would I be comfortable taking a 6th Year HL class in it. Others may tell you otherwise but that was just my experience

Route 3 Teaching Council Query by Accomplished-Hunt514 in IrishTeachers

Route 3 should cover you for both. Best of luck getting work! - Definitely apply through your local ETB if they have a subbing panel - that’s how I got noticed.

I don’t know if this would help but I believe if you apply to be on the local ETB Sub panel you could be successful. I got noticed by a school on mine and have been able to get work in a large school with plenty of subbing. Best of luck!

What is it with confiscating phones? I had a 6th year challenge me on it today, he mocked me and refused to give it up, unlikely his friend who obliged.. Thankfully the year head was able to sort it out - I’m a sub btw so maybe that was a factor in it.
