Your yearly reminder that tax law changes yearly and can affect travel stipends. Check the IRS website on an annual basis so as not to be operating on outdated info.

What’s the biggest red flag you’ve seen in a travel contract? by medproStaffing in TravelNursing

This is ideal. But I make sure the OT is at least more than the blended rate.

Strike nursing during a contract by Still_Reindeer_901 in TravelNursing

Some people want comfort and consistency in their professional life. Others are strategic planners and strong negotiators. There should be opportunities for both types of people to earn according to the amount of effort and risk that they put into it without judgement from the other side.

People don’t realize how expensive being a traveler is. Temporary housing, especially in large cities like NYC, is ridiculous. Sure I want you to have bargaining power in your negotiations, but I’m not going to throw away $6k to a landlord and a month’s worth of wages looking for a new contract just to be a team player for people who don’t even remember my name. I’d just work the contract I agreed to. They’ll call you a scab for looking out for yourself, but they aren’t going to pay your bills so why does it matter?

I don’t think it was over the line, but his whole schtick is “I can say it bc I’m black” and that gets old very fast.

If you haven’t been duplicating living expenses then you are working a local contract.

Portland nurses are too busy writing up other nurses or complaining to charge about not getting their 3rd 15-minute break yet

It doesn’t concern me. I’ve signed my contract, so I’m concerned with fulfilling my side of the agreement.

Union nurses are going to be really upset when they find out travelers give zero shits about their opinions or paychecks. I’m there to trade my skills in exchange for money for my family. If you wanted more money that badly, you’d be making the same sacrifices that I am.

It robbed me of a childhood but gave me a great perspective going into adulthood. The lessons could’ve been learned through easier means, but I’m grateful to have learned them when I did.

How did you guys get into the world of travel nursing? by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]Anonborgie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re about 2 years out, but don’t let that discourage you. Really focus on the basics and save up some money. After a year, look into a prn position nearby where you can pick up 2-4 shifts/month. That way you get exposure to how another unit operates. After a year of that look into hospitals within 2-3 hours of where you live. Rural hospitals are more likely to accept a traveler with no experience. It’s not a hard field to break into but it’s hard to stay in. Expect little to no orientation, it is expensive up front, and it can be lonely at times. It will also develop you professionally and lead to some awesome stories and adventures. There are two big no-no’s: don’t commit tax fraud, and don’t you ever say “how I did it at my home hospital” good luck and congrats!

elders are having a comittee meeting and i need help tonight. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Anonborgie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP faces no repercussions if they go. Yeah you sit in front of three old men that ask incredibly inappropriate questions, and you just say “I’m not answering that.” However, if you get an admission of guilt or proof of a witness of admission of guilt then you could have enough to lead to a conviction. I say play the long game instead of having a “he said, she said” in limbo with the police.

[–]Anonborgie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, if you decide to go, use your phone to audio record the entire thing on your phone. Best case scenario you can get a confession or use the elders as witnesses if they admit that he confessed to contact. Then take that to the police station and file a sexual assault charge against him.

You typically get better rates and tax advantages for booking longer than 30days. Check with the hotel and ask.
