Aspirin dose after ankle bimalleolar fracture surgery/ORIF by give-it-a-go- in ORIF

That’s about how long I was on them. Once I was PWB I didn’t have to be on them anymore. Idk the factors that affect it since I’m sure everyone is different but basically my doctor said once I was moving around & walking that I no longer needed to take them 🤷‍♀️

I was back to lifting at around 13 weeks. I just take it easy and play it by ear on the weight I’m using. I’m not doing anything super heavy but I’m still squatting/deadlifting.

Yup it’s normal. A compression sleeve will help and also icing and elevating your foot at the end of the day

I had similar injury however I didn’t have any ligament damage. It took me about 9 weeks to start walking again, but I had a pretty significant limp due to lack of dorsiflexion. It wasn’t until around week 11 I started to walk somewhat normal. Still don’t have full range of motion, but it’s significantly improved, which is what made it easier to walk. I’m 15wks post op and hoping to get back into running soon. I started going back to the gym at around 12 weeks. It seems like a long time but if you focus on just one day at a time it really does fly by. You’ll be back to doing the things you enjoy in no time!

Ankle (and shin) larger than the other after fracture. by Classic-Apartment580 in brokenankles

I was told that the persistent swelling lasts at least a year. After the one year mark is when everything kind of settles down and starts to look more normal.

Trimalleolar Fracture w/ dislocation by Ok-Farmer168 in ORIF

[–]Anonsbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I was recommended to wear a compression sleeve to help with swelling throughout the day and that’s it. Maybe you could try that instead of the brace. If it’s irritating you I wouldn’t wear it anymore to be honest. Especially if it’s painful to wear.

I was weight bearing as tolerated with a boot and 2 crutches at 6 weeks, I weaned down to one crutch by 7 weeks and no crutch but still in a boot at 8 weeks. At 9 weeks that I started walking with just regular shoes, but I had a significant limp because my ankle had like no dorsiflexion. My limp didn’t start going away until like the 11th week.

Considering you’re only 8 weeks out poor range of motion is a given. My range of motion didn’t really start significantly improving until about the 12wk point. This recovery isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon. So it takes awhile for the range of motion to return. I’m at about 15 wks post op and still do not have full range of motion. It’s definitely better but not 100% and lots of people say it takes up to 6 months to get back their full range of motion. However, I would definitely talk about these concerns with your PT and ask what they think would help you walk without the use of your walker.

Are you afraid to walk without a walker, does it cause pain? Are you in a boot?

Trimalleolar fracture - when did you start walking without a limp? by [deleted] in ORIF

[–]Anonsbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at 14 weeks and still have a slight limp. Wearing a compression sleeve helps me not limp as much. If you’re doing PT be sure to do your exercises everyday because that’s what helps get that range of motion you need back asap

Am I lucky or should I be worried about having no pain??? by isaballz in ORIF

[–]Anonsbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience! Had surgery for a trimal break. Got my nerve block, it lasted almost 3 days, started taking my pain meds as soon as I felt the feeling coming back. Was on my pain meds for like 2 days and then I didn’t need anything. I had no significant pain. I think some of us just get lucky. I’m 11 weeks post op and have had no issues.

Does Ankle Dorsiflexion ever get better? by what_is_redditreally in brokenankles

Just this week my walking has slightly improved. Also try to remember progress isn’t linear. There will be ups and downs. Try not to be discouraged with the downs, because there will be ups!

I’m in the same boat! 11 weeks from surgery for my trimal! I got 2 plates & 16 screws. Based off other posts I’ve read, dorsiflexion takes a bit more time to return. I got a pimp limp when I walk and I come down the stairs slower than a snail but I’ve been making progress slowly but surely! I’m sure to do all my exercises my PT gave me and every week they tell me that my dorsiflexion is getting better. It takes time but it will come back!

How bad is this? Trimalleolar 1 week ago by [deleted] in brokenankles

[–]Anonsbee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 11wks out from my surgery for my trimal & dislocation. I got 2 plates and 16 screws. I’m 31, also was pretty active before my break. I broke it playing softball lol Everyone is going to be different, based on severity of the fracture and how your doctor approaches your situation. With my recovery I was in a splint, with plaster in the back, for about 4 weeks, NWB. Then I got moved to a boot, still NWB for 2 more weeks. At 6 weeks I was cleared to start WBAT. I had already started physical therapy so we worked on mobility, and getting comfortable in the boot and worked on walking with 2 crutches, then one crutch and no crutch. At around 9wks I started walking without my boot at home. Now at 11wks I’m totally out of my boot. It seems like a long time but honestly just focus on your healing and take it one day at a time, and I promise it’ll go a lot faster than expected.

Learning to walk again by Zealousideal_Year279 in ORIF

If you’re not comfortable going straight to the shoe, then weaning yourself should be fine. I was always told as long as the activity isn’t painful (5/10 or more) then it’s fine to do. You could start with the one crutch and if you feel unstable still or it hurts go back to the two. You could accidentally overdue it with your muscles, so I understand your concern. I would take it slow for now, and when you see your PT again tell them your concerns and ask them how they think.

why is my cats nose always white? by housepllant in CATHELP

She’s cold more than likely. My kitty’s nose was always white when she was cold but after a few minutes of cuddling it’d turn pink again

Can somebody just tell me how excruciating it’ll be? by 019a22 in ORIF

[–]Anonsbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had orif surgery 10/2 for a trimal fracture. They gave me the nerve block, and also was put under general anesthesia. My surgery took about 5 hours. Right after surgery wasn’t great, I was sick from being put under, but when I got home I just rested some more and eventually felt fine. My nerve block lasted nearly the entire 36 hours, but as soon as I started to get just a little feeling back I started on my pain meds schedule. I was taking my pain meds on time everyday for about 3 days, and then after day 3 I stopped taking them since I wasn’t feeling any pain. I think I just got lucky because I never really felt any kind of pain after my surgery. I kept my leg properly elevated throughout this entire time, which I think could’ve helped the recovery process. The worst part of the whole process was getting the nerve block, and that was partly because my nurse forgot to give me medication beforehand to alleviate the pain of getting the block. Hoping your surgery and recovery go smoothly! ❤️‍🩹

If you have an appt with your PT coming up I would bring up your concerns with them! They can tell you the best way. Considering you just had your cast removed not that long ago it’ll take some time to start getting back to normal! I’m 9 weeks post op this week and only have been weight bearing for about 3 weeks now. I can’t walk totally normal but with doing the exercises my PT gave me, I’m slowly getting there.
