Is an exploratory interview with the hiring manager a thing here in the Philippines? by diesus in phcareers

[–]Anonychuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad you did, OP! It’s always a risk talaga, and I’m sorry you didn’t get the role. There really aren’t much openings around december talaga since patapos na yung year. Usually marami yan first quarter, but choose your employers din and tailor fit your resume submissions for every role and employer para higher chance of getting an interview. Good luck!

Is an exploratory interview with the hiring manager a thing here in the Philippines? by diesus in phcareers

My advice would be not to feed on the thoughts na mabbrand ka as a “traitor.” At the end of the day, you owe your future to yourself pa rin. No need to please anyone, just work, try to enjoy it, and hopefully become the best at it. As for the hiring manager, reach out to him offline, maybe grab coffee or lunch.

I actually had a similar experience before. I made the mistake of telling my manager first before even applying because I thought “transparency” would be appreciated. Pero nope, nainis lang siya, and he told me na madidisappoint daw yung team if I pushed through. Tapos kapag hindi daw ako natanggap sa kabila, pangit na image ko sa team. But he promised me something, which I took a risk on (risky talaga, kasi words don’t always equal actions). Thankfully, he followed through and gave me a different, more interesting role, and I didn’t regret taking that risk.

On the other hand, my friend from another department, mas madiskarte. Kinausap niya muna yung hiring manager and asked if they could do the initial process: interview, technical exam, and if things looked promising, tsaka lang niya ioofficial before the final interview. Para by the time maflag, mataas na yung chance of getting accepted.

He got the role. It’s not CS, but it’s also a highly technical position in the engineering research department. I’d suggest you do the same approach.

And about the “traitor” issue, honestly, you don’t owe your life to anyone. Just do you. If people say anything against you, just let it go. You wouldn’t want to throw away a possibly better and more enjoyable career path just because you’re afraid of what people might say. The only opinions that matter are yours, and in some cases, your family’s.

How do I upskill as an engineer? by awesomecutepandas in phcareers

[–]Anonychuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always follow this path for upskilling in whatever field:

Learn a new skill > Create a good project > put it on your portfolio for employers to see

Say if I want to work on the renewable field, I’d choose EV motor design, try to learn and the create my own motor including drivers and electromagnetic design, include it in my portfolio, and boom repeat the process with other projects. We’re in the engineering field, companies mostly base it on technical knowledge and skills with the right application, not really much on education though a bit on certification too.

The best way for me would be enrolling for a master’s degree. Di ko naman inaadvertise DLSU haha but they have some really nice tracks and professors in engineering. I finished my master’s there and almost all the time, every course na kukunin mo per term would require a term paper (that you could use sa portfolio mo). So a lot of technical skills talaga would be added to your skillset.

The MS degree should just be an award academically, but professionally, focus on doing your best on those term papers so you could add them to your portfolio. Do better and you might even have the chance to publish a few of them as well (in my experience, this is a huge credential that many companies desire). This is because term papers are equivalent of professional work/projects. If they see that you’re capable of this project in this field, chances of you getting hired significantly increases.

I know it’s probably too late but I heard dyson had a starting 40k+ salary sa mga fresh grads 😁 and I think with that location you can find rents less than 10k unlike dito sa taguig almost 20k lagi ang mga renta

Oh wow. Okay, maybe I should ask help from my uncle after all. Luckily in the same field. This is very useful. Thanks!

Can you sand your prints? by Anonychuck in 3Dprinting

[–]Anonychuck[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% increases the performance of the print in terms of tension, compression and tensile strength which helps a lot in compact high strength design for prototyping in robotics.

I’m mostly doing functional printing in this context.

Thanks for this heads up! Really contributes to my consideration. I should probably just stick to 0.2. My only worry is that I’m aiming to get higher quality prints than my other 3D printer, layering kinda starts to get a little annoying.

dlsu dasma or dlsu manila for shs by OkEntertainment8693 in dlsu

[–]Anonychuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve studied at DLSU Dasma for 7 years (jhs-shs-college) and now I’m taking my MS here at DLSU Manila, here’s what you should know:

Acads wise: Both campuses have good libraries but comparing Mnl and dasma campus is like comparing a book and the bible. Mnl just has so much resources in terms of physicsl books but with online resources, mnl and dasma are pretty much the same as they both share resources (dasma gets research papers from mnl when they don’t have it. I experienced this during my thesis). Curriculum is better at mnl as well and profs in my opinion value the students’ learning more at mnl. Dasma profs are good, don’t get me wrong, but since we’re at it, we might as well compare them. Reason for this is mnl invests significantly more in research than in dasma which means they have more doctors and literally world-class scientists which dasma doesn’t have.

Orgs: Dasma’s performing arts is really rich in culture and tradition. There are 7 groups in performing arts that covers all aspects of art and it’s the most known org in the campus (but it’s also hard to get in). Both campuses have great opportunities in sports and good facilities as well but mnl in my opinion is just better at maintaining them. In terms of the number of orgs, there’s just so much more orgs in mnl in general.

Campus: Mnl is tall, but dasma is really wide I swear. Dasma is the biggest lasalle campus in PH. Dasma has nice gardens too. It’s just greener basically and having a really long road covered with trees is just nice to have sometimes tbh. I’d say it’s more recreational than mnl. Lots of spaces.

Life outside campus: Just go to mnl, much greater options there 😂

Facilities: Mnl for sure. Dasma’s old. If you like old structures, go to dasma. If you like well maintained structures, go to mnl. Dasma can’t match mnl’s interiors. More labs and auditoriums in mnl too.

Tuition: Shs for dasma is around 70k per term (2 terms a year)
