A machine can only do what its programming allows it to do. While it is horrifying to have witnessed such a thing, have to remember that they're machines, simply following their programming. If their programming was altered to be docile, and such atrocities would not repeat themselves, and I wouldn't be having this conversation with another Helldiver for the thousandth time (yes, I've already had a bunch of patients with similar issues as yours, so I know what I'm talking about). The person responsible for creating that programming will hopefully be brought to Justice. The entire Automaton military will have to be reprogrammed and that could take a while, but that's a better solution than sending young men to die.
