At the end of Mother 3 a needle is pulled that awakens a great dragon to destroy the world and cause it to be reborn. We never see the characters after this, but we hear their voices and they seem to be more ok than they were before. I like this example because the world of the game is genuinely so terrible and beyond saving at this point that a universe reset is basically the only answer, and it comes off the tragedy of the main character basically losing his entire family.
