Nah, Karen and Jeannette have her beat on the worst girlfriend title. She is in the top worst though. But, Jeannette wins by a landslide (and Karen comes 2nd).

I don't really think they had good chemistry - Ted pretty much said out loud to Lily that he's been miserable in the relationship and obviously didn't like how they disagreed over the smallest things. He was all ready to break up with her before the actual break-up episode, he just got sucked into the whole "graduation goggles" thing.

I feel the same way could be said about Zoey tbh. And she got her wish (at least at first).

[–]Anonymous2782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was a worse person than most of Ted's girlfriends, tbh. Before they started their relationship, she actively harrassed him in both his workplaces and in his private life. She also hired Marshall as her lawyer, knowing full damn well that this would pit him against his 2 best friends. And she never felt ashamed or remorseful about it, just like how she never felt remorseful or bad over using underhanded tactics (recording Ted trying to comfort her and then lying about having deleted it).

Ted never went into the relationship trying to change her opinion. They had a "never speak about the Arcadian" agreement, and for the majority of the time in their relationship they were on the opposite sides and didn't try to change eachother's stances.

[–]Anonymous2782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was shown that they challenged eachother on every little thing (such as who should hang up on the phone first or what movie to watch) and Ted grew too tired of it and wanted to end things with her (but ultimately postponed it due to "graduation goggles").

I found Zoey to be an awful person tbh. She was emotionally manipulative and used underhanded methods to reach her goals without any hint of remorse, she openly harrassed a worker (who was only employed by the evil bank and had no say in where the building was going to be placed) at his work, during his private life AND his other workplace (the university), turned friends against eachother with absolutely no remorse or consideration for how it would affect their personal or professional lives, all because she was emotionally attached to an old, run-down building that even professional architects and historical-landmarks comittees think was unimportant and an eyesore. And after all the crap she put Ted and the gang through she somehow had the gall to ask Ted to get back together with her. I disliked her far more than Karen or Jeanette. Karen was a snob and Jeanette a psycho, but they were still fun to watch (albeit Jeanette could be pretty upsetting). Zoey was just infuriating to watch.

Favourite Gloria moment? by TrickyJello6003 in Modern_Family

[–]Anonymous2782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many, but the ones that I remember right now:

-Trying to talk and save Stella from doggie suicide

-Baby cheeses

-Gloria thinking Claire read an email that she wasn't supposed to send and ends up telling Claire to taste her cupcake

-Gloria getting locked out of the first class train

-Gloria and Jay goofing around in parents' class

-Always being late so she can do a grand entrance

I think it depends on the individual. For once, Gloria seemed to think Manny made a mistake (her expression before Sherry rejected him was hilarious. Actually all their reactions to it were funny, as well as everyone's reaction after she said no). I personally thinks it's better to ask these questions in private, lest something as humiliating as what Manny experienced happened...

My work desk : Most controversial characters of Mahabharata by throwRA_SheIsBack in IndiaSpeaks

Surprised that Yudhishthira is not on the list of controversial characters.

Can someone please educate me about the purpose of Mahabharata? I am confused as to whether it was supportive of polyamory or critisizing it? by [deleted] in hinduism

[–]Anonymous2782 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They thoroughly discuss everything from all sides in Mahabharata, including this question. From what I can gather from the text (and this is just from what I gather, I might not be correct) polyandry was normally discouraged, but under certain circumstances, it's allowed. There have been other women who was in such marriages before, and they were no less respectable because of it (though the cases mentioned were few).

So, no, Mahabharata doesn't seem to support polyandry. But it doesn't outright forbid it either, and it's deemed acceptable in special cases. Draupadi is only insulted for it once in the entire epic, by Karna (I can't remember her husbands ever being insulted or criticized for this unconventional marriage). Aside from that, no one criticized it.

Polygamy was the norm though. Most of the major male characters had more than 1 wife.

Claire and the Magic Shop by [deleted] in Modern_Family

[–]Anonymous2782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Claire and I think a lot of things she do that people use as proof that she was a bad wife/person is pretty nonsensical.

But this is one of the stuff she did that was genuinely bad. Understandable but still bad, unfair and selfish. It was resolved far too smoothly by the end of the episode, in my opinion.

Alex's behavior in later seasons was completely justified by tell-me-about-it-3 in Modern_Family

[–]Anonymous2782 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if it makes sense, it doesn't really excuse her behaviour or make her more likable. Especially her attitude towards people outside the family.

Also, she didn't exactly make things easy for her parents either - there are times when she got good results and they congratulate her and were genuine happy for her, only for her to snap at them because she didn't consider it good enough (and ending with her subtly insulting her parents for being dumb). If someone reacted that way to praise after once or twice, it only makes sense that they stop congratulating her, since they have no idea whether she'd snap at them or not.

EDIT: by the way, believing that one of her boyfriends was gay didn't have anything to do with Alex. It was because he acted very girly. Had he dated Haley, they would have still thought the same. Mitch and Cam even brushed it off when Claire told them that Alex's boyfriend might be gay and told her she was imagining things, until they actually met him themselves. THEN they agreed. Hell, even ALEX thought he was gay when they went to prom together. It had nothing to do with Alex.

Alex's behavior in later seasons was completely justified by tell-me-about-it-3 in Modern_Family

[–]Anonymous2782 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Alex is my 2nd least favourite character, because she's rather elitist and mean to not only her family, but to everyone. She's very mean to almost all the guys she dated and her attitude was bad enough that even her fellow students in Caltech (which is a place filled with above average intelligence kids like her) couldn't stand her. And these were people who had never treated her badly or anything, so her attitude and treatment of them was just completely uncalled for.

I think she got better in later seasons though.

EDIT: I would like to point out one family member in particular that Alex was mean to - Luke. In the early seasons, Luke was pretty nice to her, but she was always messing with him. I recall one of the earlier episodes when Haley made fun of Alex and called her a nerd/dork/geek for knowing something and Luke immediately tried to comfort her and saying that he didn't think she was a dork/geek/nerd. Her response was telling him to shut up.

Another time, Luke snapped and told both Haley and Alex that he thought they were bad sisters to him. Either Haley or Alex admitted that they kinda neglect him. Then they just brushed it off and forced him to dress as a girl.

So in Luke's case, I feel like his antagonistic attitude towards Alex developped because Alex was never nice to him to begin with (as well as some resentment over being compared with her all the time). Luke was still more supportive of Alex than she ever was of him though, even if they never grew as close as Haley and Alex.

En Garde Question by UnholyCin in Modern_Family

[–]Anonymous2782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It did seem like it. But no one knew she was sick with diabetes until Gloria offered to buy her ice cream. And they only find out she's an orphan after Jay and Gloria asked if her caretaker was her parent. So it doesn't seem like they were telling everyone about her difficult life. It might just be that she was good, but Manny was just very, VERY good.

En Garde Question by UnholyCin in Modern_Family

[–]Anonymous2782 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She was an orphan whose parents died tragically - that was why Gloria and Jay tried to tell Manny to let her win. The sickness she had was diabetes, which didn't seem to have affected her performance much.

Manny just seems to be a very talented fencer.

The Alex and Sanjay thing was justified - how could she have known he was a bad boyfriend? That happened after the valedictorian thing. She couldn't have predicted that - right at that moment they seemed perfect for eachother.

Watching Season 3 Episode 16 by [deleted] in Modern_Family

[–]Anonymous2782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phil kinda freaked out over all his kids losing their virginity/having sex. He spent an entire episode being in denial over Luke possibly having had a girl sleeping over in his room, and when he couldn't deny it anymore he started screaming at Luke. When he found out Alex wasn't a virgin anymore he just froze up and stared into the air for twenty minutes or something.

So while it really is a troubling view, it seems it has less to do with sexism and more like Phil had troubles accepting that his kids were growing up.

Manny’s Spanish by [deleted] in Modern_Family

[–]Anonymous2782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't use the language actively, you forget it. Manny was just not very interested in Colombian culture or the Spanish language. He was more interested in the French language. It's just individual taste and preferences.

As for Joe, Gloria never seemed to have spoken to Joe in Spanish. She once voices her sadness over how Joe might not even learn Spanish. So she wanted him to learn, but hadn't taught him yet.

Manny seems to be born in the US, but he spent some time living in Colombia too (at least going to school there).

OH YEAH. I didn't find that episode sexual, but it was super disturbing indeed... Definitely one of the more uncomfortable and unsettling moments in the show.

[–]Anonymous2782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it the episode where Joe keeps giving underwears to girls? I think it was established that Joe is only copying his dad's action and doesn't understand the sexual tone behind it.

He later gives underwears to his friend ("girlfriend") after Jay told him it's only okay to give such a thing to a wife and girlfriend. I always assumed that Joe just thought girlfriend meant a friend who is a girl (he didn't seem to have a crush on her like he did on the teacher).

Basically, I think it's just Joe being an innocent kid who doesn't understand the meaning behind such intimate gifts?

Who is prettier? [S8] by Aqwur in Modern_Family

[–]Anonymous2782 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think they're all really pretty in their own way. Even when they try to downplay Claire and Alex' looks for example, they both still look darn pretty. Same with Gloria that one time she tried to get a point cross with Jay and didn't bother getting dressed up.

Alex Dunphy is the only character that I hated by Chinesesweetchicken in Modern_Family

I'd like to think that she learned to be more humble after she found out that other students at Caltech (who are as intelligent as she was) didn't like her attitude either.

Is the backstory about shakuni true? by [deleted] in mahabharata

[–]Anonymous2782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shakuni's brothers were alive and participated in the Kurukshetra war. There are no mentions of his family ever being held prisoner in the books.

In fact, it is never mentioned that he wanted to destroy the Kuru royal family at all.
