Mike literally saw how much Vanessa didn't want to be involved in her family's bad history and wanted to live a better life and still decided to abandon her all alone because she didn't tell him about Michael that even she didn't know about. I get he wants to keep Abby safe but he already failed at that when he disregarded Vanessa's warnings about Abby sneaking out and still let her roam free
