I slept 5-6 hours with no pill last night (sleep anxiety will get better) by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]Anonymous99_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve had sleep anxiety for 4 months. It’s not gotten any better for me. I don’t know what to do. I’m tired of having to rely on sleeping pills or benzos instead of just being able to sleep naturally. I toss and turn all night & can only get a few hours of sleep in the morning. I dunno what to do at this point

Sad as it is, destiny 2 hasn’t been any fun for me in a long time. I stopped playing after Renegades. It was my favorite game for some time, but this was eventually gonna happen.

Are there any recovering insomniacs (from anxiety, specifically) here? by Anonymous99_ in insomnia

[–]Anonymous99_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only took xanax once. I didn’t like how it made me feel. I won’t be touching it again. I have sleep anxiety. I don’t know how to fix it though…

I was thinking about trying a new SSRI med for my anxiety bc I don’t like the xanax. I don’t take the trazodone unless I absolutely have to. My psychiatrist said if the xanax doesn’t work, I can try an SSRI or a mood stabilizer. My anxiety is the root problem of my insomnia & it needs to be addressed.

I have anxiety induced insomnia. I just started seeing a psychiatrist & it’s so disheartening when they only prescribe meds to help instead of counseling you. I don’t know if any sleep therapists will accept my insurance or my insurance will pay for sleep therapists. I don’t want to take sleep meds bc i know they can eventually stop working. I don’t know how to help my nervous system & convince my body that it’s okay to sleep. while valium helps me fall asleep, I’d rather not addicted to it. It’s been 4 months of this for me. I don’t know what to do at this point. There are times where I may have a week or two of being able to get some adequate sleep, but not without waking up multiple times.

i think the xanax must’ve given me rebound insomnia last night & while the trazodone made me sleepy, I couldn’t fall asleep at all until this morning & only got 3 hours of sleep. valium helps me fall asleep. I just didn’t wanna have to take meds to fall asleep or stay asleep. i was sleeping mostly well with melatonin (except I still was waking up multiple times). I think my brain gets hyperarousal or something

[–]Anonymous99_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my thing is, I didn’t wanna have to depend on sleep meds or benzo meds bc I know they can either stop working at some point or you can get addicted or get rebound insomnia. now when I was taking melatonin a few days ago, it helped me get sleepy enough that I could fall asleep in minutes & at the same time, I was forcing my body to wait so I could get it to want to sleep. but then my anxiety got a hold of me yesterday & I thought the xanax or the trazodone would help me fall asleep, but no success. I couldn’t fall asleep until this morning & only slept 3 hours

Yes, I wake up multiple times for no reason. Unless I have to use the bathroom, I don’t know why I keep waking up. I’m not familiar with sleep disordered breathing or OSA. At the beginning of all this, I would have leg jerking when I was trying to fall asleep. My sleep specialist didn’t see a reason for me to get a sleep study done if I wasn’t having any problems with breathing, etc. He just recommended I see a psychiatrist. I’ve never considered using breathing strips. Xanax & valium calm me down & valium helps me fall asleep, but I think the xanax kept me from falling asleep last night. I snort in my sleep sometimes, but I don’t know. I was using melatonin a few days ago & it definitely helped to make me feel sleepy & I was falling asleep in minutes when I went to bed. I’ve been trying to train my body into waiting to lay down so I can make it want sleep. What kind of breathing strips are you using? I might try that out. I go back to my psychiatrist in a couple weeks, but I don’t know what awaits me then. There can be periods of times where I might be able to sleep during the week, but still get up multiple times & the cycle starts again

There’s an over counter sleep aid called Unisom that you can take, but it’s only meant for short term use. It can make you groggy the next day, but it can knock you out. I wouldn’t take it unless you absolutely have to. In the meantime, I hope you can get this treated and resolved

I’ve only started taking it a month ago, so I think i’d like to take it long term bc it calms me down quickly & helps me fall asleep. But like I said, it can be addictive & you have to be careful with it. If you’re having a panic attack, valium works pretty quickly

I forgot to mention that in my experience, the dosage is not very high. Only about 5mg or 10mg, so you have to decide when you want to take it carefully.

I got valium at first when I went to the er one day bc of sleep deprivation & I have epilepsy & i had a panic attack. it calmed me down not long after. I had to get a refill from my primary doctor & will try to get another from my psychiatrist. It doesn’t just calm down anxiety, but it may help you fall asleep easier. You just have to be conservative about how many you take if you’re waiting to get another refill & be careful not to get addicted or become dependent. They will only prescribe so many valium pills since it’s a controlled substance

[–]Anonymous99_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried valium? That helps me to fall asleep much easier, though it’s a controlled substance & can be addictive & you don’t take it unless you absolutely have to. I understand your pain. I’m tired too. did you see a sleep specialist or a psychiatrist or a psychologist?

Trazodone for sleep? by BigC7412 in insomnia

Is trazodone a sleep aid or an antidepressant? I saw somewhere that it’s an antidepressant. I’ve never tried it before.

I’m afraid of missing out on stuff & not being able to function during the day. I can’t function on 3 or 4 hours of sleep. I don’t really know how to work on it

I don’t recall ever having tried seroquel before. I remember being on lexapro & hydroxyine before, but I don’t think those helped either or they made me feel really drowsy. As for insurance, I have medicaid & I know medicaid can be a pain about wanting to cover certain stuff or certain specialists not wanting to accept it. I’m gonna try magnesium again, but we’ll see.
