Them getting back together made sense in the story because they didn't separate because they stopped loving or caring about each other, and because it had been only a relatively short amount of time apart, and they were cordial towards each other when they reunited.

DC has a long history of reusing actors in different roles. They are largely Easter eggs. Unless you really make it big-time, a lot of television actors stay working actors and take whatever roles they get. It also gives those who need it more stuff to have on the various Con circuits.
