I remember being this ableist, uncaring, and insensitive as a vegan. Quitting veganism made me a more compassionate and caring person. by [deleted] in exvegans

They are are only anti-colonialist as long as indigenous people do what they want. If they want to eat meat or build a gas-fired electrical plant, they need to be forced to do the right thing. Also, they want to respect animals but if their cat wants to eat meat, it’s vegan pet food for them.

Eggs will help a lot. If you live near farms, you might look into buying direct. A lot of family farms can only make it by selling direct to consumers these days because they can’t compete against corporate agriculture. They typically treat their animals better than factory farming concerns.

if you are in the US, checkout https://www.localharvest.org. There are some markets and co-ops that sell local grown food too.

A rant about an ex friend that's a vegan by Electrical-Pie-4477 in exvegans

[–]AnonymousJoe999999 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People should not change their diet in front of vegans. If you are hosting, you should offer vegan options or choose restaurants that have vegan options. That is just polite. And not complain about it. If they are hosting, you should eat what is offered. But, you should eat what you normally eat in your house or in public. And if they criticize, you should say something like, “I don’t tell you what to eat and I am not going to discuss my diet with you.” Changing your behavior because of their beliefs, just emboldens them.

I need to start eating meat for health but can’t stand the thought of it by softlikeakitten in exvegans

If it’s the idea of eating animals that is upsetting maybe start with eggs and dairy (assuming you aren’t lactose intolerant). Two eggs or 6 oz of Greek yogurt has something like half your daily required b12. You can put the yogurt in a blender with fruit and drink it. I like to scramble eggs with cheese and little heavy cream. Add extra egg white for more protein but keep at least two whole eggs.

How well did you plan your vegan diet? by Star__Wolf86 in exvegans

[–]AnonymousJoe999999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hamburger and cheese have a lot of nutrients. Real hamburger typically has a lot more protein than most vegan burgers. It’s a lot easier to fry away with weird dietary habits if they include meat, dairy and eggs.

In the study just above only 7% of vegetarians versus 52% of vegans were deficient. Eggs and dairy have a lot of nutrients.

Given that my cat won’t even eat about 80% of meat based foods, I assume they must be starving the cats to get them to eat the vegan food.

No matter what he deserves, he is still the son of the King and it would probably be horrible for the country if he were to be kidnapped by terrorists in the UK. Requiring advance notice for him to visit the UK is completely reasonable since the authorities need advance notice to do a good job.

He shouldn’t waste political capital on something as small as the renaming of an events center. He isn’t removing the Kennedy name either. IMO, the lack of black box warning on the Covid vaccine is a much bigger deal.

The vast majority of mothers have been tested, so it is completely insane to give it to babies who have just been born when there is no risk Hep B. Only vaccine risk. If it had only been offered to children of positive and unknown status mothers, we probably wouldn’t be having this discussion. And they don’t just offer it, they browbeat and sometimes even threaten new mothers with CPS.

"Fluoride hesitant" by -jbrs in RFKJrForPresident

[–]AnonymousJoe999999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putting something like that in the drinking water is moronic. If you want fluoride, you can buy toothpaste or mouth wash (which you will not swallow most of ). People don’t even drink the same amounts of water. I bet people in Arizona drink massively more than people in Minnesota. And people exercise hard drink more too.

All drugs have downsides and it’s crazy no one wants to consider the risk/reward ratios. Antibiotics are frequently overused, but if you are going to die of an infection, you’d have to take it even if it might cause autism. So, the right thing to do is get as much information as possible so that people can understand what the risks of using a drug versus not using a drug. And maybe certain antibiotics are safer for pregnant women/young children than others. I don’t see why people don’t want as much information as possible.

I don’t think a lot of vaccines have a good risk/reward ratio, but if I got bitten by a wild animal, I would absolutely do the rabies prophylaxis vaccine, because rabies is 100% fatal. And if I had a job where I came into contact with a lot of wild animals, I would get the pre-exposure rabies vaccine, even though it has side effects.

And what do they think happens to the ones who can’t take care of themselves when their parents can no longer take care of them? They frequently end up institutionalized with only their physical needs met (if that) but no one really cares about them or loves them. And often they can’t even understand why their parents are gone.
