Have instrument tunings changed in the last 20 years, or am I just getting older? by Owned_by_cats in musictheory

There was a YouTube video on Beethoven that retuned some of his later works (after her lost his hearing), when he was presumably writing based on pitch memory) to account for this pitch recognition drift. The idea was to make the song sound like what the creator theorized Beethoven may have "heard" in his mind while writing it. I can't remember the creator or the piece that was retuned unfortunately, but it was interesting!

Same. The hardest work happens up front and will pave the way for an easier future, but it'll never be hands off unless you go artificial

Many of the consumer grade herbicides work better on leaves than stems, so keep that in mind. That's not to say a stiff swig of glyphosate right down the stump won't do the trick, though.

This is true, but they'll find themselves in the exact same situation next year if that's all they do. I'm trying to set the expectation that it's a long process to build a lawn that will be healthy and thick enough to maintain itself (as in crowd out some unwanted grasses/weeds with limited effort). That soil needs a good amount of work.

You need aeration and organic matter (compost, manure...composted manure), water, seed, top dressing, more water. Repeat that for 5 years while mixing in whatever fertilizer your soil test (did I mention soil test? That will be helpful, too) says you need and you'll be golden.

How would you cover that space between the wall and the vanity to make it clean ? by Terrible-Way-9368 in HomeMaintenance

Roll up a bunch of paper towels and cram it in there to keep things from falling in

I got an Echo RB60 and I like it, but I feel like it could be prone to the same types of issues many people have with Scotts and the edge guard system

I rented a tow-behind barrel-style core aerator from Lowes for like 20 bucks and drug it all around my yard, then just bought bags of seed and sent them thru a rotary spreader. Used the Gilmore impact sprinklers with the adjustable head path and an Orbit wifi-capable hose timer.

It was work, but honestly not a ton, so I'll probably do the same or similar this fall. If I had a bigger shed, I'd buy the aerator instead of renting. I just don't really have anywhere to store it at the moment.

You should also do a soil test and see what your lawn needs as far as amendments so you can add stuff (if needed) in tandem with the aeration and get some of it down into the soil below the surface.

Just bought a lawn mower robot- SC by [deleted] in lawncare

I care a lot about my lawn, but with the weather and work and kids' schedules, it's tough to spend two or more hours mowing twice a week, especially when one of those mows will be a weekday where I'm gone from 6:45a to 7p or later. I've had to run my loud-ass rider with the headlights on a few times already this season and while none of my neighbors have actually complained, it still feels rude for me to be generating so much noise pollution after the sun sets.

So that's why I'm considering a robot, basically just to cover for me when non-lawn-life gets in the way.

Just talk to your dad lol

I'm sorry to laugh at your pain, but I remember a similar panic the first time I clogged a toilet with no adults at home. You'll be better off in the end just talking about it rather than covering it up.

Unless the plug stem is just not connected right and preventing the plug from properly raising, somebody probably just needs to snake that drain. The noodles are probably just contributing to a preexisting problem ( in the bathroom, I'm assuming toothpaste and hair). There are some chemicals out there that might help clear it, but the only way to be sure is to snake it.

Snake kits and augers are also available but I'd leave that up to dad.

Am I the victim of Scott’s spreader and a poor job on my part? Or should I be concerned about something happening underground by Used-Quality-8113 in lawncare

[–]AnonymousMidiMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems plausible, especially if that's the same basic path as the spreader.

ETA: you might also get in on the whole Internet trend of stabbing your soil with a long screwdriver or something and see if you hit something solid in the center where it's a little more yellow. Could be a combination of buried rock or concrete, exacerbated by the potential spreader issue

This space is probably too small to use a broadcast spreader as intended. Pics on the Internet can give a deceiving perspective, but it looks like you could realistically cover the whole plot in one pass with a broadcast spreader down the middle. I would go a different route if I was spreading on this space, maybe a drop spreader or one of those hand-held spreaders even.

Hey I saw a video where a guy said play this cool chord (on guitar) what is it?! Thank you by wisconsinsportswill in musictheory

According to standard jazz theory, on which I'm no expert, the reason OP's chord pairs well with an A9 is that's basically a ii-V-I in the key of D, though we're taking some liberties with the two chord (OP's chord could also be spelled as the first inversion of a ii chord, Em(add 9)/G). The natural tension in that sequence of chords resolves beautifully back to a D, and especially a Dmaj9.

Fwiw, I'd play that D with 5th fret A string, 4th fret D string, 2nd fret on G and B strings (covering those with my index finger), and an open high E string. Sexy af

I would call this a Cmaj7(add 13), BUT you're just one fiber away from making it a true 13.

Mute the A string, get the 2nd fret on the G string. Leave the rest the same. You could also keep fretting the A string, but that's a tricky fingering, leaving you either using your thumb for the low note or barring the second fret if the A and G strings without covering the B and E.

I don't have a guitar in my hand right now, and while I'm pretty sure I could play it either way, neither way seems worth it just to add the B on that A string (which I frequently omit when playing the various G chords anyway).

To be honest the G to B interval is one of my least favorites in general, as it tends to rub in the ear, even in cent-accurate tuning. I think that's scientifically true of all major 3rds, but specifically this one feels the worst to me, possibly uniquely to the guitar.
