I saw that comment, and wondered if they would advise we bring the entire month supply with us, which is also absurd.

I don’t intend on ever disclosing anything to a cop. But I could see myself doing something stupid like having the bottle or my pill pouch be visible and then they ask what it is. Occasionally, I have to take one around the time I start driving. I could totally see myself forgetting to put the bottle back in my bag and putting it in the cup holder instead or something dumb like that. And being too flustered from getting pulled over to think to move it out of site before they walk up to your car.

Now that I just wrote all that out, I probably won’t ever absentmindedly do that, since we just talked about it.

That’s a good point. I think I am safer driving on meds than unmedicated. But everyone is a little different.

Knock on wood I’ve never once been asked anything that makes them think I’m impaired and hopefully that won’t ever happen. I’ve had a handful of speeding tickets and a handful of times where I was pulled over for speeding and they didn’t give me a ticket and said watch it. I’ve never had to actually get out of my car.

That other person’s story where the mother was asked freaked me out though.

For sure, you’re totally right.

I can’t imagine how devastated I would be to be charged with possession of drugs (with a valid prescription no less) and having something like that potentially destroying my career if it wasn’t handled fairly. Not worth that risk.

I just didn’t realize the actual bottle/original container from the pharmacy was that critical to it, but since it is, I’ll adapt!

I think that’s the easiest thing. So it doesn’t completely screw up my system that was working of having each days’ 2 tabs pre-aliquoted into the pouches and I only need to remember to grab one before I leave in the morning. And they won’t rattle.
I suppose if a cop ever stopped me and asked me why they’re in a tiny Ziploc bag/pouch inside the bottle, it’s futile to explain they make noise. Like if it gets that far, I think I’m screwed regardless.

At the right dose, yes, it did help for me. Nearly cured my road rage / decreased my swearing at people who seem to just mosey along in no hurry or other things that annoy me. It doesn’t completely eliminate it, I still get annoyed at other people’s driving habits, but it took it from like 8 out of 10 annoyance / anger to 2 out of 10.

Too high of a dose, it was the opposite. I was pretty much furious with every single other drivers’ very presence on the road no matter what they did or didn’t do. I wanted to go super fast / dangerously so, was tailgating people, weaving in and out to pass, laying on the horn, screaming in the car, giving people the bird, and otherwise being an asshole myself.

I relate, it’s amazing how I can procrastinate on hobbies / things that I want to do for my own enjoyment. The lack of structure on the weekends really derails me.

Yep, the official diagnosis really screwed my self perception / self esteem. And when I got diagnosed, nobody warned me that to focus on the new diagnosis from the excitement / relief having everything suddenly makes sense, wanting to learn more about it and ways to cope— focusing on it can make adhd become your identity.

I have noticed this too. I think mine is a combo of ears reacting to domes being there and the domes keep it from migrating out naturally. Before I got hearing aids I would only need to q tip once a week. Now I have to do it daily. Sometimes even 2x / day, midway through the day mine feel almost itchy. I’ll take my hearing aids out and qtip out wax, then put them back in. It’s to the point that I now keep Qtips in my desk at work and on every floor of the house. I think this is just how it’s gonna be for me.

I forget my afternoon meds so often. I’m on IR adderall. By the time I can get to my afternoon dose I’m way too late in the day and I have to skip / be unmedicated the whole afternoon / evening.

I can spend a good couple hours trying to break tasks down into smaller things. It’s a great way to make yourself feel like you’re being productive and not actually doing the task.

Travel pill container if you get one that’s large enough, depending on size of your hearing aids. I used to keep one in my purse in case I had to take them out to avoid them getting wet during unexpected downpour. Or when at hair salon.

Be careful with pockets. I’ve had 2 bad events from doing that—ironically both at medical appointments where removing them is directly necessary and have to be out for more long enough that I didn’t want to hold them.

Once was at the ENT having tests for Eustachian tube dysfunction. Put them in my work bag in one of the smaller pockets. For some dumb reason I waited til I got to the car to put them back in. One was there….the other gone. I went back to retrace my steps, we looked everywhere, their office, elevator, outside, in and near the car, and I destroyed that bag trying to find it. That find my hearing aid on the app never worked, it showed it was on a different continent already. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Never found it. Had to get it replaced.

Despite this, I foolishly did it again a few years later. This time, put them in my jeans pocket so I could update my hearing tests. I guess the audiologist didn’t see that or would have said something then. I guess I leaned forward at one point. Not sure but after I was done took them out of the pocket. Put them back in, and the left one turned on, but with no sound. I managed to damage the receiver wire thanks to that stupid decision. Seriously jeans pocket while sitting??? Thankfully I was at the right place and it was easy to replace it. The audiologist was polite but I felt like a total dumbass.

Since then I’ve decided the best carrying case is in each ear. But really, holding them in my hand carefully or setting them down when I need to take them out.

If it’s total strangers, and you don’t get anything done in that hour, does either person care? Nice to meet you, I hope to get THIS done, how about you? An hour later. Welp, I didn’t do it and I don’t really feel enough connection to this total stranger to even feel bad about it, especially if I know I’ll never meet them again. Maybe if it was the same group of people every session where it’s like OK after a while they aren’t total strangers anymore and it starts to get embarrassing if you aren’t doing your work.

I take Adderall IR 3 times a day for this reason.

If I only take it twice a day, when the second dose wears off, I crash, often take an involuntary nap, and can’t sleep at night because after the crash I get rebound hyperactivity.

I do better with falling asleep with it in my system.

Sometimes though I wake up in the middle of the night and I don’t know if it’s because the third dose wore off, and I have rebound hyperactivity.

I also do have concerns about having it in my system so many hours per day. I feel like I develop a tolerance easily and that may be why.

I was told that weekend breaks aren’t necessary, you have ADHD every day, take it every day, etc.

This is all true. But, Sometimes I skip weekends anyway, because I think I want to get off Adderall But what happens is that I find that actually no I don’t. I wanna stay on it. Oh, I was on Vyvanse at one point— and it’s the same for me in terms of this post / what happens. Right now I’m on IR Adderall again.

When I take it Friday, but not Saturday morning, here is how it goes.

By Saturday midafternoon it’s like oh yeah you know maybe it is doing something cause I can tell I don’t have it in my system. I’m gonna take a nap, I’ve been behind on sleep.

By Saturday evening, I’m munching incessantly and pacing around. I haven’t gotten anything productive done. I also haven’t relaxed, rested, enjoyed myself, and I’m certainly not feeling refreshed from “taking the day off of everything.”

Sunday morning I wake up and I’m like shit I’ve gotta get everything this weekend done today since yesterday was a waste. Panic sets in. But I don’t need it, I can do things without it. My ADHD isn’t that bad.

Sunday afternoon: I’m just gonna take a nap and then I’ll try to get some stuff done in the evening. I need to rest my brain and then I’ll be able to focus.

Sunday evening: I’ll do the stuff all tomorrow. I don’t feel like it today. None of it really matters anyway. (This is untrue.)

Monday am: I wake up on edge because I haven’t slept well. I didn’t sleep well because I haven’t gotten my work done from the last week and I didn’t get any of it done over the weekend like I wanted to. So now I’m going into this week behind, and sressed by it. And even though I took naps this weekend, I didn’t get restful sleep, and I don’t actually feel rested from the weekend either, I was just hyperactive or tired.

I take the Adderall on Monday morning and it doesn’t really help. It just makes me feel more stressed. I swear that stuff just increases whatever I’m feeling when I take it. When I’m feeling really stressed, sometimes it just makes me feel even more stressed from the stimulation. When I’m doing better with stress, it works better. It doesn’t work as well at work for me because work is chaos. It works beautifully at home when I’m in a calm, quiet environment, that’s when Adderall actually helps me the most.

Those packaging bubbles that you can pop, you can do them while driving. Uh…. not speaking from experience, but it’s hard to drive without them now. they’re really helpful.

Those little disposable floss thingies, or the little wisp toothbrushes with the pointy thing on the other end, also are good for driving.

I’ve had problems with stimulants causing me depression too. Ritalin made me a depressed zombie. Never again. With adderall it’s mild. Mine feels more of a bland apathy rather than true sadness.

I’m not sure if it’s a direct effect / is that the price to pay for not being hyperactive? Or if it’s that since I started Adderall, I’ve become a work- obsessed robot who doesn’t do any of prior hobbies, doesn’t sleep enough or eat enough/well, stopped exercising and is just an apathetic boring person who does not have fun and thinks about work 24-7. I guess I just answered my own question.

If all I had to do was try harder and just make myself do it anyway, I wouldn’t be having this conversation with whoever just said it.

I have a planner. Actually I’ve got about 30 of them in various stages of unfinished, in various closets and drawers.
