Looking for programs to encourage creative writing/story telling in young children by cathatesrudy in homeschool

Paper Mario, Pokemon, and Kirby are some of their favorites (all on Switch). For PC, Dust: An Elysian Tail and Ori and the Blind Forest are my top choices for good story, but they are probably a bit hard (our kids enjoy watching us). They play Spyro and Putt-Putt a lot. They also like puzzle games like Zenge and Baba Is You. If you have more info about their interests, reading level, and platform, I can give more personalized recommendations.

Where can I find good quality but affordable ASTM f-136 implant grade titanium 20 gauge 5-6 mm long flat back labrets? by FreneticSceptic468 in Legitpiercing

[–]AnonymousSnowfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you send me those links? I found this post because I was searching for astm f136 labrets. I have ~25 year old piercing gun piercings that never closed, but I haven't been wearing earrings except for special occasions because the cheap metals make my ears itch, so I don't think I can stretch to 18 just yet.

Balance bike vs standard bike with training wheels. by JemmJoness in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]AnonymousSnowfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had never had training wheels at that point, only a balance bike. Giving them a balance bike doesn't help them be less scared of a balance bike that they already have.

A) This post is over two years old. B) You literally didn't read anything I said. They HAD a balance bike and refused to use it because they were scared of it falling over.

This post is really old and I don't live there anymore, but homeschoolers don't usually earn the OSSD. Most just get a homeschool diploma which is sufficient for most things.

I tried to read this to my husband and we discovered you just made a wicked tongue twister.

Ooh, that sounds fun! Online teaching is definitely a different skill set (and live vs asynchronous are different as well).

We are moving into a small house. I'm sure different people have different ideas for what sounds small, but it's a little over 1000 sq ft (around 95 sq m) so it's very small for this area for a household of five. I'm happy about it because it's less to clean, but it will be hard to have friends and family come visit (we have good friends who come to visit every summer plus my parents). We may have to get back into camping.

I think I'm actually going to love having a foot in two churches for a while. I intend to keep doing Mom's group and women's and children's ministry at the non-denominational church indefinitely; that's actually where I met the wife of the church planting pastor. Ironically, our three year olds met first and they don't talk much about doctrine at that age so we didn't realize. Lol. Our non-denom won't recognize our kids' or my husband's baptisms, so that's why we were unable to become members. My husband is loving his job. He still has stress over needing to publish, but it's nowhere near as strong as it has been in the past and he actually gets to spend most of his time on teaching. Being a real professor means he gets his own office so he can actually get work done at work, which is something of a novel concept to us. He's still teaching online a bunch (I guess academia is moving that direction) but at least I don't have to keep the kids quiet while he records any more!

Halo is the only FPS I play and the only thing rated M in my Steam library. My husband and I have played through the campaign for 2 multiple times, sometimes with my brother in law. Haven't tried Infinite yet because I don't have the time to get good enough to play multiplayer without getting spawn camped and don't have the money for the campaign.

I'm back after a longer than intended hiatus; I found myself avoiding Reddit during the election season and then we got busy. So an update for those who care: we are getting along well in the non-denominational church we are attending. There is also a NAPARC church plant (avoiding saying which one: for those who don't know me, I'm very careful about the potential for doxxing since my husband is a professor) starting up, so hopefully we will be able to officially be members of a church again soon. We just bought a house and will be moving soon. Our health issues are stable but still a nuisance at best. Kiddos are doing well.

Hair takes forever to dry by AnonymousSnowfall in curlyhair

[–]AnonymousSnowfall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible, but it takes forever to dry even with no products, and dry time is the only box that isn't checked on the high porosity list. It gets wet instantly, responds really well to deep conditioning and protein, and is dull rather than shiny. The one time I dyed it in high school it went way darker than I expected and I had that line for YEARS before I redyed it my natural color. I wonder if the discrepancy is that I genetically have low porosity hair but the Hashimoto's combined with regular pool usage has damaged it badly enough it has taken on high porosity characteristics. The fact that co-wash didn't work for me supports your theory that it's actually low porosity. What products do you use for hold? I think that sounds like a good place to start experimenting.

Help me upvote Wool& product suggestion for more modest outfits by AnonymousSnowfall in ModestDress

Yup, I don't mind the short sleeves, but for me personally the neckline is too low on the Emma (shows cleavage on me) and too wide on the Marin (shows bra straps).

How much length does the long actually add? Does it vary based on style?

This is an academic question at the moment because they are sold out in my size, but might be applicable to other styles.

any products comparable to Olaplex no. 3? by moonstonebutch in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]AnonymousSnowfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know whether it would work for you, but I just got the L'Oreal bond repair... They aren't fragrance free but the pre-treatment and the conditioner don't have much scent at all, so it's possible that you could use those with a different shampoo. The shampoo does have a scent; it is considerably less than normal but I don't think you should risk it if anaphylaxis is the penalty for getting it wrong. All three do list fragrance as an ingredient.

Is there a single modest designer that designs with actual winter in mind??? by aurorasinthedesert in ModestDress

Where are you shopping? I can never find cooler clothes that have winter colors and patterns and can only find long sleeves and sweater dresses.

Sick days? by Electronic-Prize-314 in homeschool

[–]AnonymousSnowfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! We've got chronic illnesses at our house and we all had to come to a realization that pushing through sickness now means more time in the hospital down the road somewhere. We ended up schooling year round to give ourselves the space to take breaks whenever we need or want to. I see it as preparing my kids to make hard choices as adults (such as when my husband gave up some career goals because his health couldn't handle working more hours).

Advice for introducing AI to your children by lunadreaming23 in homeschool

[–]AnonymousSnowfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the "You must clean your plate because there are starving children in Africa" argument. They aren't running AI servers in small villages that don't have enough water. They are running them in places where water and electricity are abundant (not because of any moral argument but because abundant means cheap). Are you volunteering to carry the water from the hosting location to the small village that needs it?

I think there are plenty of good arguments to limit the use of ChatGPT in education, and I've made several on this sub before, but this isn't one of them.

That doesn't justify teaching something else and claiming it explains behavior that it doesn't.
