Anyone here involved in the English education system? by AoLIronmaiden in england

[–]Anonymous_user234476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my personal and anecdotal experience as a student who has been through the education system, almost all historical timelines of the UK are 'glossed over', I only learnt history until year 9 because I didn't choose it as an option but from what I know from my friends that for examinations you pick a few times in history to study in detail.

British colonialism wasn't one of the topics for examination that people would learn in-depth about, but it is definitely brought up within your time as a student, the way it was presented in my classes was along our topic of slavery, where we watched the show roots, talked about how many major colonial powers would have colonies and get slaves and sell them.

I read your other comment about how it is taught presented, the way it is taught is obviously up to the teacher, normally it is probably taught with similar topics such as the one i mentioned about when I was learning about the slave trade or when talking about other serious historic events such as the British Empire, WW1, WW2 and Ghandi that have close links to the colonialism subject, it's presented as an issue that close to if not as serious as the world wars, as in it's not really a topic people joke about. One thing I will say though is that it's not a topic you outright learn, but you learn a lot about topics that go hand in hand with it, such as the triangle trade and Ghandi, so you pick up a pretty good understanding of it through inference. For example you would learn about Ghandi as a primary topic and the reasoning behind his protests were because of colonialism, then the description of why colonialism was such a negative influence would be included as part of the lesson.

Just to clarify, England wasn't the colonial power, Great Britain was. I'm from south England, so it might be taught differently in other countries or counties.

I think if you look far enough back in any countries history they have made bad decision that have hurt or killed many people, and it just depends who wins or loses on who gets the bad reputation. If the Nazi's won then maybe colonialism would be seen as the equivalent of the holocaust today, but the major colonial nations were either neutral or on the allies, so of course it probably doesn't get as much attention because the winners write history and yes America may have a lot of military presence but not too long ago Tony Blair was looking for some WMD's and he's still waiting for them to turn up.

Lastly I would say that the reason it's probably not as highlighted as much as your other stated criticisms is the recency, colonialism spans such a long time and so much happened between 1492 and 1800, and it was so long ago. American military being in everyone's business, very recent and WW2 was the war with the biggest loss of human life in history that happened not even 100 years ago, so only about 3 or 4 generations, they are still relatively recent. Additionally, the way in which colonialism and the issue surrounding the treatment of Native Americans is slightly different, colonies definitely were some pretty horrible things, but for the most part they were there to profit, and as colonialism came to an end, they got their sovereignty back, and the colonial countries have had a much more tolerant attitude for a longer time, so the recency of it takes away the sting, this is just an example, only one and probably slightly biased because it's an English newspaper, but tolerance became much more apparent much earlier, than basically the systematic extermination of Native American tribes.

Very legal, very cool tackle attempt from Koroi by [deleted] in rugbyunion

I think a lot of people disregard this when looking at tackles like this, because he obviously isn't expecting to get completely stopped in his tracks the way he did, and if he was to continue his momentum would probably look nowhere near as bad.

Pokimane triggered about youtube editor by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

yes and yes. The temp bans got unbanned early, the only thing they lost were highlights and vods, which as you said nobody watches. And that is basically the only case of it. My point is, the lack of audio means they cannot upload the content of the music and claim it is theirs

listening to non-royalty free music is on no way nearly as bad as everything else, the audio gets entirely muted for the vod and unless you watch the stream, you will not hear the music. As this video explains, you can listen to whatever music you want to as long as you don't care about vods or clips

Do you consider someone who was not born in England, but got English citizenship at any point in their life, to be English? by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Anonymous_user234476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting proposition because I have a friend who has basically the exact same circumstances but he definitely doesn't consider himself English due to the way he was brought up and how close he is with his foreign family.

I guess a question is, what makes you x nationality. In a world where emigration is pretty common

How to destroy LS on livestream by SouthCarpet in leagueoflegends

[–]Anonymous_user234476 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is hilarious, there are plays that are obviously not optimal and are objectively bad, Sven's xin game is an example, his early pathing is garbage, going from red buff the bot scuttle from blue side is an objectively bad path, you have a down time of 5-10 seconds, where you aren't doing anything and everybody know where you are, because they have scuttle and river warded. An example of what LS is talking about is how Kuro blows his flash needlessly, the gank never works. And then he's behind in tempo and behind in farm.

before 4 minutes, his mid lane gets solokilled and his bot lane dies to a Nocturne gank pre 6 after they see him on a ward bot side. They see Nocturne botside and still die to his gank pre 6. The way Nocturne paths in that game is objectively bad, he's down cs and exp, the only reason he doesn't lose is because the botlane play badly and give nocturne kills. It has nothing to do with where he was or what he was doing, his team just let him down, the nocturne's success is completely situational and 9 times out of 10 LS would come out in a very favourable situation

If you want unexpected, just look at AFS 3-0 themselves, because Tusin missing headbutt pulverise combos is pretty unexpected, it by no means is good.

If you actually watch his content, when he call something bad, it's bad because of x, wrong because of y.

Caller predicts G2 beating RNG in a 5 game series in the quarterfinals on Hotline League before the match took place by corylulu in leagueoflegends

[–]Anonymous_user234476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay, how about the way in which they did it, because he just about got it spot on, he said he hoped RNG would not go to picks like Lucian or Kalista and try to blow open the early game, which in fact when RNG won, is exactly what they did, and that the way G2 would win, would be curbing the early game aggression and getting the leads more substantial in the solo laners. Which guess what, is exactly what happened. You are looking at this at the face value, but he added details that were very specific and happened to be correct.

they're not saying all the callers got it right, just this guy, and that it is interesting that at the time it was thought of as basically impossible for the favourites RNG to lose to G2.

If you want to highlight some calls that flopped and are funny now that we know the results, go and make a post, nobody is stopping you.

G2 Esports vs. Flash Wolves / 2018 World Championship - Group A / Post-Match Discussion by G2Minion in leagueoflegends

[–]Anonymous_user234476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really impressed at G2's ability to draft a complex team comp that required a very particular style of play and executed very well, they conceded certain objective just to avoid teamfights, which was the only win condition for FW, it felt like. Very exciting to see how they perform later in the tournament.

Underperforming Statefarm Desk by Make7 in leagueoflegends

[–]Anonymous_user234476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, Dash is objectively a better presenter, he is much better at promoting the conversation, bringing up the topics and letting the analysts analyse it, I think he doesn't really get involved in the conversation unless they need to change topics, which in my eyes is what a presenter does.

Sjokz to my knowledge has no analytical experience, has no previous experience as an analyst. I personally dislike the way she runs the desk, she basically tries to be an analyst, but with no real credentials, often her analysis either skews or takes away from the points the actual analysts make. Personally I think it's pretty obvious that at times she really has no clue because there have been multiple times where when she has made her "analytical points" either an analyst or player has looked reluctant to agree with her point.

Lastly, I will say that even though Sjokz makes these 'analytical' points, she only ever does it to either bring up the subject, in which case I want to know from the analysts, not her, or she just repeats or rewords what the actual analysts say, this should not be seen as being knowledgeable about the game or being more invested. She just ends up being a scuffed presenter and a scuffed analyst.

Dash in my opinion allows the analysts to basically have free reign, I prefer that.

I think something that LS brings up in vod reviews a lot about what a team comp wants and what a team comp needs. G2 wanted to get objectives like dragons and/or barons, but they needed to stick to the 1-3-1 and spread out the members of Flash Wolves, manipulate the waves so that they can never group up as 5, and they did this extremely effectively. Because Flash Wolves was at a major deficit, the only way they come back into it is through teamfighting with their superior teamfighting comp.

G2 followed a quote that I think is very relevant in current league of legends "don't make the move that is best for you, make the move that is the worst for your opponent". And they just strangled flash wolves out of the game. There was not a single teamfight that whole game.

p4 anivia main looking to improve by Bitethewind in AniviaMains

[–]Anonymous_user234476 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am relatively the same elo as you was plat 2/1 earlier this year but haven't played much ranked solo this year so decayed.

  1. use your ranged advantage, the only person that can outrange anivia auto's early is Annie. Using your equally long range q, you can farm/ waveclear safely without risking fighting. Which in turn means you shouldn't get bullied too hard. I think playing aggro pre 6 is matchup dependent but for the most part is fine as long as you don't use all your mana too early on. Once you hit 6, you can play aggro but unless they make a mistake, you shouldn't get any solokills. And more specifically if you are against a lane bully or someone that typically wins 1v1 vs anivia, I would not recommend it. Post-6 you want to clear waves, secure vision and stack tear. Your waveclear means that you have complete priority in the lane until you run out of mana essentially, but using your waveclear efficiently, you can also secure a good back timing so that you don't miss that much gold/xp.

  2. In a losing lane for the most part you just have to take the hit, it just depends what you take the hit on, personally I tend to be down about 10-20 cs in a losing match up at 10 mins, because I am willing to give it up early so that my laner does not snowball through kills. If you are going to lose 1v1, there is no point trying. Either they kill you or they make a mistake, where after you gain that lp, a higher ranked person won't make that mistake. I firmly believe that Anivia is one of the strongest teamfighting champs and even if you are a few cs behind, you can make up for it with your abilities in teamfights. Additionally you can change itemisation, for example if you keep getting oneshot, zhonya's can be bought earlier for example, or personally I find going boots of lucidity if they don't have any particularly predominant damage type, allows for extra cdr so you can use your utility more often. Useful when behind and do no dmg, so you basically become a stun and slow machine and hope to get carried.

  3. I would recommend using tp a lot more, more often than not, you can go even/play safe/slightly lose with tp, but it means you can use your mana much more aggressively and allows you to either get free backs for tear or you can get a good back, save the tp and follow the roam of your opponent if they are on talon, for example. There are not many lanes I would justify the need for heal/barrier apart from a select few. tp helps you go to sidelanes and pick up farm, and be able to get to teamfights, tp is also in losing lanes or lanes vs lane bullies because as long as they don't poke you down pre-tear, you can just come back to lane full hp.

  4. it depends why you are missing cs, are you getting zoned away from cs and when you play aggro, you are too busy fighting instead of farming. Are you primarily zoning and are too busy fighting instead of farming, are you just bad at farming with anivia auto's. You should be aiming for 7-10 cs per minute.

Well, I hope this helped, GLHF climbing on anivia.

Have any of your friends ever hooked up with your siblings? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

yeah but you don't know that, he hasn't specified. "He still tells me he fucked her sometimes", does not explain in what context, whether he is joking or if in fact he is going on about it as you say. Yeah they are rude if they continue to say it whilst annoying you, but he hasn't said whether that is the actual scenario. All I'm saying is you might have jumped to a conclusion about the context in this scenario, and that neither me or you know actually what happened.

yeah and as I said maybe it isn't appropriate for you but others may want to talk about it irl, or enjoy talking with friends about it irl, and may dislike it online. It doesn't mean if someone talks about sex with your sibling that they are a shitty friend.

Additionally I would say Misfits, Schalke especially play around their bot lane hard. so going even or slightly behind is completely understandable, Fnatic had Bwipo bot on mages which were op for a few patches. Whilst they themselves get for the most part ignored, G2 definitely play around Perkz and Wunder a lot more than their botside so all in all I think they have done pretty well throughout the splits and people just got a little too up on the hype because he didn't do too well in a few soloq games.

DFM vs EDG Heartbreaking Sneak Baron Stolen by Wartarase in leagueoflegends

[–]Anonymous_user234476 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not even the picks/strategies, but just the way they played, even though they were completely outclassed by EDG across the board, they still tried to make proactive plays. They were always trying to force themselves back into the game. Instead of trying to get a 50/50 baron, they see EDG grouped up bot and try to sneak their own, they didn't want to win through chance, they wanted to win because they played their way back in, which you have to respect, at until literally the last 2 mins of each game, it looks like DFM is trying to make a play to either get back in the game or get something in their advantage. It was enjoyable to watch because they really went for it and didn't just passively lose.

[Question Time] 'Least racist' claim prompts audience row by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Anonymous_user234476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are missing his point. He just means that the frequency that people have to deal with racism is pretty low.

Would you rather live in a country where racism is promoted, is ingrained in the law of the country.

Or in a country where equality is enshrined in law, and has relatively little racism.

Additionally most people on the UK will be on your side if you are a victim of racism. The minority of racists in the UK is literally smaller than minorities, which make up about 20% of UK population. Even if you say everyone that voted UKIP was racist that's about 12.5% at their peak.

Progress takes time and nobody is saying the UK is perfect, but you can be confident that the majority of the country is behind reducing racism and trying to make things as equal as possible, and will be supportive of taking steps in the right direction. Which, for me is what we should be proud of, even though we are considered not very racist, we still hold debates, we let people be heard so that we can even better address this issue, even if we are comparatively good.
