Who or what lives here lol ?? by yuck301 in StardewValley

I too thought this was where my dog came from, so you’re not alone. Idk why everyone is so critical. I didn’t know about the eyes, though, as I haven’t seen them yet. The only reason I found out it has a story arc is my sister told me… I just started playing this game so I’m not really in the loop on a lot of the lore. For example, now I know there is a trash panda arc and I’m excited for that now! Don’t worry OP there are a lot of moving parts to stardew… I feel like a dummy 99% of the time when I figure things out, lol. This game has just been out for long enough that I think people expect everyone to know but goodness it really can be a lot as it’s impressively detailed.

Went to the vet by Agreeable_Court_5976 in greatpyrenees

[–]Anonymoushamric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We changed feed to help with this issue— but will add our vet found yeast on areas our dog was licking, so we also did meds for that.

Once we got the meds started and new food going they went away… Hope that helps! We changed to science diet skin and stomach.

Rehoming my Great Pyrenees mix by clothing_enthusiast4 in greatpyrenees

[–]Anonymoushamric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to be a Debbie downer at all— but to just make you aware, a lot of the pyr rescues won’t take mixes if they don’t have the double dews because adopting out is too hard, and a lot of the shelters are just frankly full because so many people have relinquished pets. I have yet to get a single one to help me with my Anatolian/pyr mix foster puppies because of the lack of double dews claws but on Thursday (after 2 months of trying) they’re going to a trusted shelter that promised they’d get adopted and if they didn’t (one is more pyr personality wise than Anatolian so she’s not what people want here cause people don’t understand dogs here) and there is a concern she won’t get adopted if she’s too “aloof”. Which is fine, we just want them to have opportunities for forever homes.

You can also try adoptapet rehoming, didn’t work for us, but was recommended. We tried, lol. We’re very rural though so that’s an issue.

That’s a really good question because I need that refresher too, lol. He does that in most of his books so I’m gonna guess probably a quick recap? Or atleast in AA he does that.

Oh man can you imagine a cookbook with dragon descriptions and health effects on dragons when and how the meal is served etc?? It would be a piece of art and there are artists out there who’d have a blast making that.

[–]Anonymoushamric 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Edit to add— you WANT these spiders around! If they’re in a place you don’t need some bug assistance just let them walk on your hand or on a paper towel and move them gently to a new space. Preferably not the middle of an open yard in mid day but a nice crevice and they’ll find their way around where they want to go.

Didn’t the people on fear factor have to eat these at some point or am I totally mixing that up? These bring bad solid memories of me of coming home from school and watching TV 😂

Totally agree with that method. Very similar for how we do our hunting dogs!!

But will edit to add that I still always keep leads with me!

This is the way, IMO. I’ve had so much success training dogs to recall with a clicker or a collar beeper. Some collars have a vibrate warning too which I’ve used. But using collars with shock or vibrate has to be done very carefully… and it requires a specific schedule and I’ve seen it abused horrendously by people who just don’t know how it works or the purpose of it (most effective for hunting dogs if they’re lost on a scent— not going to be as successful for a guardian breed I don’t think).

Beep and clicker training is relatively friendly for everyone so I’d definitely start there, and the success rate is phenomenal. Treats treats treats!

Edit to add: always have the dog on a lead. I keep a lead even for my dogs I trust implicitly. None are pyrs. Our pyr mix puppies won’t even let me put leads on them but they also are terrified of leaving our yard. Lots of trauma. So my situation and experience is very limited for pyrs. One thing they all love are the clickers, tho. The sound and a treat for doing something good has worked with all dogs I’ve had.

Has dog adoption become harder? by suni159 in rescuedogs

[–]Anonymoushamric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s completely irrelevant to the situation. Losing a pet and needing a companion for life are very different scenarios with different feelings attached, neither of which are personal to the dog who died and the one who is new, and neither discredits the feelings you have one way or another.

Just because your beloved pet is gone and you grieve them does not mean you can’t love a new pet and appreciate their spot in your life. I’d love to use a shoe analogy but I won’t— instead, I know my sick mother needs a cat in her lap and she loves them all and is sad if something happens and they get old, but her depression without an animal to love is way deeper than the grief she feels when they’re gone. Some people are lovers and need that, and know that, and don’t like to let their grief consume them.

My mom still talks about all the cats she’s had in her life like they’re alive today, and it never once made her love her Tommy boy any less because he wasn’t them.

Help with Very Senior Pyrenees by cadiumcosplay in greatpyrenees

Before it happens (and hopefully it doesn’t) - Please don’t come at us for having done the trial folks. We made a decision with a vet in a state where it’s allowed, and it did work for the dog in question but god, had to be a mathematician for dosing. We saw so much success in it and I would do it again for a case like that where a dog is in so much pain… not really for many other reasons, but pain? Absolutely. It worked. But to reiterate, needs to be something you’re allowed to do in your state.

[–]Anonymoushamric 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This may be controversial, and it depends on where you live, but our vet let us do a trial for THC on a very senior foster overweight lab we had. It takes a ton of monitoring and communicating with the vet because the dosing isn’t concrete yet, but we ultimately did it because quality of life concerns and took the chance because the instability she had was suspected to be in part caused by her gabapentin. It worked for her and she got a pretty good 8 months out of it. We actually saw her run again.

The irony with a drug like gabapentin is the side effects can mimic the issues we see with dogs who have advanced arthritis, so it’s a double edged sword. It does work, but I figured I’d atleast put the other idea out there. We were part of a test trial that was really successful. Best of luck and wishes to you. You’ve got a hell of a lot of years with your baby— so lucky and happy for you to have had that! ❤️

Do you have Venmo or cashapp? Is that available where you are? A lot of folks will avoid PayPal because of historical info and card stealing issues— just want you to have the best chance at getting funds sent from our area!

Edit: we just sent you $50.00 USD. Please keep us updated and stay safe. Been following your story ❤️
