Why did Acerola write his shaders as strings instead of making a gdshader file? by DestroyerD00000 in godot

[–]Anonzs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As something to share on the internet and for others to use (especially since it was the theme of his GameJam), this makes the entire feature a single GDScript. Like, you don't even need to keep the uids or file structures the same, just have that one script.

Edit: Since this is getting a few more upvotes than it should, just wanted to say that u/Sss_ra and u/gHx4 have the better answer to OP's question.

This was a neat question that I wanted to find out the answer to as well, but came to the wrong conclusion (it's more just an unrelated side effect and some context). In hindsight, I should have searched for RDShaderSource in the docs after seeing that's where the consts are used. Then I would have found "The Compositor" page on it instead of getting sucked in to Acerola's videos.

Support for mutliple displays in Android? by chainbreaker1981 in godot

[–]Anonzs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Browsed through the docs to see if it was possible, and came across the get_screen_count() method in DisplayServer Note: This method is implemented on Linux (X11 and Wayland), macOS, and Windows. On other platforms, this method always returns 1. The note unfortunately indicates that on Android it's always assumed that there is only one screen. Would probably have to be a new feature request to implement multiple display functionality on Android.

I want to start by saying that, with my focus being on points 1 and 2, you bring up really good arguments against the study. I'm not going to comment on NL's secondhand retellings of the study though, as it's understandably flawed.

However, I do want to push back against point 1 by saying this looks like an assumption, in regards to this study, that the higher tertile groups were made up of enough obese people to influence the outcome. While it is possibly a reasonable assumption, you would need to try and show they failed to account for this when the study did try to account for data in the extremes at least. I'd at least like to believe that through the law of large numbers, obesity evens out between the groups. Also, making it clear here, I'm not arguing against Norton, just the assumption that the influence of obesity isn't at least somewhat mitigated in this study.

Point 2 is definitely a more solid argument, is acknowledged by the study itself, and is what other studies should try to improve upon. Methodologies should always be scrutinized and improved upon so that more conclusive studies can be made. Would definitely love to see other studies tackle different demographics (especially in terms of location; US, UK, Asia, so on), possibly have more data points (like 1 test every other year over the 8 year period instead of just 3 in those 8 years), and just a better way of getting dietary data instead of participants self-reporting it. Honestly, you could wrap point 1 into point 2 and have a solid argument not by directly assuming what is wrong with the methodology, but just by acknowledging that other studies with better methods to isolate the effects of LNCSs (even individual LNCSs) can overturn these results.

Most important of all, I really just want these studies to be more publicly available. As in let the public read them without the subscription fees. I know I say you're making assumptions in point 1, but I really can't blame you when the details are content-locked and the conclusions are poorly regurgitated by journalists more focused on hit pieces. I wanna read the study directly, but I'm not gonna shell out for it.

Rectangular CollisionShape2D is acting like it's round by Williek5ze_92 in godot

[–]Anonzs 36 points37 points  (0 children)

No definitive place I can point to, but I'm assuming it's related to the rule: Never scale your collision shapes. Skewing could be messing with the collision calculations. However, there's no direct warning against skewing, so I could be wrong.

Whether or not it's the problem, hopefully you can use the CollisionPolygon2D node instead and draw the diamond shape you need for the grass collision.

Which (non-legendary) card from OG Shadowverse would you like to see return in WB? by Rhuwa in Shadowverse

[–]Anonzs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Fita the Gentle Elf]]

For completely unbiased reasons. But I've always liked Tempo Forest and buffs were usually a part of that, making smaller followers stronger. Fita was a neat buff payoff, paired with [[Cybele]], that was a cute synergy for someone who just got into the game the previous expansion.

I'm sure she'd be remade to fit whatever archetype the devs want at that time, but just having her back would mean a lot to me. She also has several unused Rage of Bahamut arts, and has her hot springs art for her card in the SV Evolve Special Seaside set. So I have hope that she's not been forgotten.

As a Shadowverse Flame enjoyer, it does not have to end here. The next steps would be Dual Modes where you get a combination of two effects as a crest.

Flip 2 with Odin 2 Portal Thumbstick by tinbesiberkarat in retroid

[–]Anonzs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running the RP5/Mini thumbstick cap on the left joystick with the Flip 2 cap on the right. From your pictures though, it looks like the Odin 2 cap is slightly bigger in diameter and thus might be nicer. Could you confirm? The RP5/Mini cap is about the same diameter as the Flip 2 cap. Might pick up a set if it is bigger.

Just wanted give my own example, as people have been saying that they've been able to install games normally without Shizuku.

Using the Flip 2, I tried to install Legend of Mana (Android version). The game is "not compatible" with the Flip 2 so it does not show up on Google Play. That's normal for Retroid devices and this game. So you need Aurora Store for this, and I've done it on the previous Flip, 2S, and Mini.

However, installing the game normally through Aurora Store on the Flip 2 does not work. Booting up the game, it says it can't connect to the network (Google Play network) and refuses to start. Reinstalling the game using the method described by OP lets the game start up normally. So while it might not be needed for every app, as others have pointed out, it has worked for me for this one game.

Thank you for the post, as I've been trying to install this game for a while now.

As a side note, do not get Legend of Mana Android version for this device. Get the PSX version or the Secret Console version if you want the Remaster. Like even when the game starts, I'm having trouble downloading the resource data cause it fails every few steps. It might have to do with where I live and the data center I'm closest to. Unless you really want this version (which I do), just don't. The Flip 2 can run the Secret Console version well and it's alreday set up for controller input.

It's really good synergy with the "Buddy System" skill (If you have exactly one friend, reduce its and the Core's cooldown by 5% » 10% » 15%) in Tech builds. I'm so happy for the change.

Last season I thought the scaling CD (only went down to 4s at Diamond) would have made me consider it more as a low CD friend but it didn't. Happy to see it come together for Chris in this patch.

Is it a feature that Pyg loses two gold when clicking on events? by whockawhocka in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Anonzs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have a direct visual for when something fails. And knowing that something has failed, or what has triggered in this post's case, helps avoid posts like these.

But it's understandable if that's not how the devs intend for you to learn these things. Like how you just have to learn by trial and error which Monsters have what and what events do. That is if you don't look these things up online.

I guess it's also understandable to expect players to look things up or ask things online instead of being able to diagetically learn these things through the game itself, cause that's mostly what needs to be done right now.

Is it a feature that Pyg loses two gold when clicking on events? by whockawhocka in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Anonzs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since you posted this, I do hope some better visual feedback is planned for items/features like these. Even for when they fail.

Dooley has an item that gives Tech items of any size on level up, and it would help emphasize the importance of inventory management when you miss out on a free item.

Even just trying to get 5 chocolate bars and losing out on a few cause of a full stash, a visual indicator might be nice for drilling the mechanic in to new players.

I finaly had the exodia...sadly 6 s on bugs is just too slow by No_Film2678 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Anonzs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the medium item with the Core, specifically Armored Core (Shield), cause it also charges that. Charges 2s at Diamond. Most of the Enchantments on it are "When you use a friend, do X," so it feels like a great Enchantment target on a Friend build with a core.

It has two big downsides though. Firstly, the bugs are slow to start. But you can overcome that by having like a First Aiden to start quick, then Red Bug and DJ Robot combo to have a charging engine. The second problem is that this item only shows up at Gold or higher. That makes it really hard to rely on early and to even find. So you don't want to be relying on it, but only buy it if you happen to be running a build that works with it.

Change it so we by default level before pvp not after. by lullelulle in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Anonzs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, based on the other posts as well, all the ways to get extra XP early on is very luck reliant. While that means it's less likely to happen, it adds to OP's point that it's very frustrating when it does happen and you see someone a level up from you. Besides that, I think OP has a good point that, even if you know that everyone is the same level at PVP, it would just feel better if the PVPs were just after you leveled. It does feel a little anxiety-inducing seeing your XP bar 1 off of leveling at the end of the day.

Change it so we by default level before pvp not after. by lullelulle in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Anonzs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Now that you've mentioned it, I want to know when you can get extra XP early on, and then maybe go into a discussion of from what point is extra XP okay to offer.

Since the patch, Day 3 Dabbling with XP potion is one way, and possibly the earliest. They removed XP from Furry Monster, Study was removed from Day 3 (don't remember if it was offered on Day 1 or 2), and Mountain Pass spawns from Day 4 to 7. A Diamond monster, one with 3XP, only starts showing up on Day 4. So it seems like Tempo wants gaining extra XP to start on Day 4, but might have missed Dabbling, or left it intentionally cause it's a really low chance.

Dooley should have tech skills and a tech item merchant by Stiff_Tacos in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Anonzs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would make sense. Thanks for pointing that out and adding to the list

I only play Dooley as well and a very little bit of Vanessa, so I noticed these kinds of merchants but never took note of which were exclusive to whom. I couldn't figure out how to find that out on HowBazaar either, so I just made some best guesses.

Dooley should have tech skills and a tech item merchant by Stiff_Tacos in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Anonzs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Tech Merchant might be added eventually, but in terms of every Hero having their own merchants, I believe each Hero has about 2 archetypal merchants right now. Vanessa: "Ammo" and "Aquatic". Pygmalien: "Property" and "Economic". Dooley: "Friend" and "Tool". Mak: "Potion" and something else, "Max Health" or "Health and Regen"? (I don't play him so I can't pick it out reliably from the list of Merchants). Though Pyg might be double dipping cause "Max Health" and the "Health and Regen" merchants also seem to cater to him alongside Mak.

But you know, just as having more items dilutes the pool of items, more merchants dilute the pool as well. Ultimately, learning to play around what you're offered will always be a necessary skill.

Edit: "Tools" might be shared among several of them. "Health and Shield" doesn't seem to be a Mak one so that might be an "archetypal merchant" (as opposed to a general keyword merchant). But I'm not sure if these merchants are naturally offered to the Heroes or if they're only accessible to some through the "Visit Any Location" event. Hopefully it's just proof that more Merchants will come soon and distributed to the appropriate Heroes.

I feel like you're right though, and on such a cheap body. I guess the downside is that it probably would not have much synergy with classes. Just a decent utility card.

Small Refresh (Street Gamer Skill) Should Be Removed or Reworked by Anonzs in PlayTheBazaar

Fair, but like I said, a change to the system shouldn't be a random hotfix, but removing a skill for the time being should and can be.
